Why The Internet Is Obsessing Over 'Dept. Q's' Alexej Manvelov Who Plays Akram

Dept Q is one of those few shows that is stacked with a knockout cast. You might've come for Matthew Goode, Chloe Pirrie or Kelly Macdonald - and rightfully so, but we'd have no qualms if you finished the series thinking breakout star Alexej Manvelov who portrayed Akram was your favourite character.
Just shy of a month since its release, it is evident that the world still cannot get enough of Netflix's Dept. Q. Still going strong, it has held a top 10 spot in Netflix TV series' since premiering on May 29.
But of course, what was not to love? The combination of an emotionally tortured yet highly skilled police detective tasked with the responsibility of forming a cold case unit against the backdrop of Edinburgh and Lothian's moodiness (and of course, those interiors throughout the series) makes for the perfect crime solving settings in this adapted Nordic noir.
One of the series' main characters, Akram is first introduced to viewers as a quiet and obedient Syrian expat working in Department Q as Detective Carl Morck's assistant. While he might have had a mysterious air about him in the first episode, it was easy to overlook Akram as an uninteresting assistant aiming to impress - through willingness to help Carl sift through case files and offering his colleagues (Rose) a sweet treat that was supposedly made by his wife, we don't expect to get much out Akram.
However, this all changes in the second episode when we see Carl interrup Akram's prayers. A quiet frustration takes over his face, yet he does not verbally express this to Carl, until the final moments of the episode, when he calmly, yet firm states, 'Carl when I am praying, don't interrupt me,' after helping ease his boss out of an anxiety attack.
Beyond this, as the episodes go on, Akram's charming and personable nature as compared to Carl's is also an added factor in him becoming one of our favourite characters in the series.
In an interivew with The Upcoming, Manvelov touched on Akram's evasive nature. 'He's multi-layered, with the backstory we came up with makes him a mystery, but also very human.'
While the mystery of what his job was previously in Syria remains a mystery for the entirety of the series, it comes to a head for the first time in episode six when Akram pays Edmund a visit, and uses physical violence to get answers out of him. Even after Edmund threatening to kill Akram, as polite and calm as ever, he responds, 'Okay. But in the meantime, please tell me who you work for,' all while crushing his already broken femur and maintaining his usual stoic mannerisms and facial expressions.
It's at this point exactly, were we really begin to wonder, who on earth is Akram? Prior to this, while questioning a group of drug addicts who get violent, Akram manages to escape the situation, unharmed, despite leaving one of the drug addicts hospitalised with a crushed windpipe.
Even by the end of the series, the truth about Akram's former profession and the mysterious death of his wife is never answered, which only adds to the build up of season two, and naturally we're left in awe and slight fear of this mysterious and impressively dangerous man, but even more so by Manvelov's enigmatic and chilling performance.

Astroworld is back in the spotlight and survivors are sharing haunting stories on TikTok

Astroworld is back in the news, and social media has some thoughts. In November 2021, a deadly crowd surge at Travis Scott's Astroworld music festival claimed the lives of 10 people. The then-annual event, held in the rapper's hometown of Houston, became one of the worst concert tragedies in U.S. history. It is now the subject of the new Netflix documentary Trainwreck: The Astroworld Tragedy. With renewed interest in the incident, survivors have taken to social media to share their own footage from the event. 'Only if I knew bro,' one attendee posted on TikTok over footage of himself in the crowd. The audio accompanying the clip is taken from the documentary: 'It started getting pretty hectic,' one survivor says. 'I'm like 'Oh my god I can't take a deep breath,'' adds another. 'Since everyone else is sharing their Astroworld experience,' another TikTok user wrote in the caption of a clip, which shows him tightly packed in the crowd as Scott performs. 'Not too long after this I got bumped into due to the crowd swaying and ended up falling on top of someone in the fetal position,' he wrote. 'We ended up getting out but man it was a struggle.' In other horrifying footage, the panicking audience can be heard calling for help. 'I've never posted this video before, rest in peace to all innocent lives lost,' the closed captions read over the video. Even before Scott took the stage, the crowd seemed to sense something was wrong. 'We are gonna die,' one attendee 'jokes' in a clip, now with 10.3 million views, filming the unsafe conditions. 'Saying this as a joke but on the inside this was a real feeling,' she wrote in the closed captions. 'This about to be bad when it starts,' another can be heard saying. 'Bro literally called it,' the captions add. 'I believe Astroworld 2021 was not an accident,' crowd safety expert Scott Davidson says in the documentary. 'It was an inevitability due to the lack of foresight and the abandonment of basic safety protocols.' Nearly 5,000 people were injured as a result of the crush. The Netflix documentary, which premiered on June 10, features interviews with several survivors. In total, 10 people lost their lives: Axel Acosta, Danish Baig, Rudy Peña, Madison Dubiski, Franco Patiño, Jacob Jurinek, John Hilgert, Bharti Shahani, Brianna Rodriguez, and Ezra Blount, who was just nine years old.

Netflix real estate agent Sara Burack killed in Hamptons hit-and-run

NEW YORK — Netflix star Sara Burack, best known as a luxury real estate agent who appeared on 'Million Dollar Beach House,' has died at age 40 in a Hamptons Bay hit-and-run. Burack was discovered lying unconscious on the side of Montauk Highway, near Villa Paul Restaurant, at around 2:45 a.m. Thursday. Responding officers found her with serious injuries indicating she'd been hit by a car, according to Southampton Town Police. She was immediately rushed to Stony Brook University Hospital, where she died that afternoon, confirmed her friend and fellow real estate agent Paulette Orlando-Corsair. Orlando-Corsair said Burack suffered severe injuries to her head, brain and liver, as well as a broken leg. Police on Friday were still on the hunt for the driver, who fled the scene of the crash, as well as for information on the vehicle involved. Authorities have asked the public to come forward with any leads that can help identify the suspect. Burack lived in Southampton and was a successful broker and former agent with Nest Seekers International, a luxury firm with offices in New York City, the Hamptons, Connecticut and New Jersey. 'My family has a commercial construction material sales business that I spent many years of my life working for,' Burack told in 2020. 'I have always been intrigued by real estate projects and decided to become a broker after my experience as a summer property manager in the summer house I would rent.' 'I have been spending half the year in the Hamptons for the past 11 years,' she added. 'It was only natural to turn my love for real estate into a blossoming career.' Burack starred on the reality series 'Million Dollar Beach House' in 2020. The show followed a group of young and hungry real estate agents as they competed to seal the deal on luxury listings in the Hamptons. Burack is survived by her parents, sister and brother-in-law.

'Bridgerton' season 4 marks end of production

"Bridgerton" is based on the bestselling novels by Julia Quinn. The period drama follows the eight Bridgerton siblings as they search for love and happiness in London high society. 'Bridgerton' season 4 in production: See 1st photos of Luke Thompson and Yerin Ha "The fourth season of Bridgerton turns its focus to bohemian second son Benedict," the season's official synopsis reads. Bridgerton season 4 will consist of eight episodes. It arrives on Netflix sometime in 2026.
