Patsy Palmer leaves British Soap Awards host Jane McDonald and viewers shell-shocked with bizarre ‘vagina' speech
PATSY Palmer left British Soap Awards host Jane McDonald open-mouthed during her bizarre speech about "vaginas".
The actress, who plays loudmouth Bianca Butcher on the BBC soap, was awarded Best Comedy Performance for her role.
Patsy, 53, returned to the soap for the 40th anniversary in February, where her character was kidnapped by evil Reiss Colwell.
The iconic soap star, who dazzled in a cobalt blue suit, took to the stage to collect her award.
But the TV favourite stunned fans and those in the audience with her cheeky speech.
Patsy said: "Knock knock...
"Listen I haven't prepared a speech because I thought Jack [P. Shepherd] was going to win," the camera then cut to the David Platt actor who pulled a surprised expression.
Patsy continued: "To be able to be funny and all of what we've seen tonight, is nothing short of a miracle really.
"I want to thank Shona McGarty for leaving, because if she hadn't have left, I wouldn't have come back.
"I wasn't expecting that and I'm so glad I did because I stayed for the 40th and that was really where we celebrated a woman's vagina.
"I think vaginas have always been funny."
The star then burst out laughing, with Michelle Collins, who plays Cindy Beale, looking mortified.
Ian Beale actor Adam Woodyatt also looked gobsmacked at his co-star's remark, while host Jane McDonald was left shell-shocked.
The reference was clearly in relation to Sonia Fowler giving birth in the pub during the live 40th anniversary episode.
Sonia, played by Natalie Cassidy, welcomed baby daughter Julia during the Queen Vic's explosion.
The scene saw her give birth with the help of Bianca and Lauren Branning, portrayed by Jacqueline Jossa.
Despite leaving some stunned by her speech, the audience took it in good humour and were in hysterics.
Patsy continued: "All jokes aside, coming back to EastEnders after quite some time has been the most amazing experience for me.
"I'm beyond grateful, I'm not going to cry because it's a comedy award, but you have no idea what a gift it has been for me to come back."
Following her speech, Jane returned to the stage.
Lost for words, the host said: "I don't know quite what to say. How many times can you say vagina in one speech."
EastEnders swept the board after collecting a total of eight gongs in its 40th anniversary year - more than double its nearest rival, Channel 4's Hollyoaks who got three awards.
EastEnders was awarded Best Soap after its huge live episode and anniversary week which saw Anita Dobson return as Angie Watts and Martin Fowler killed off in the arms of his love, Stacey.
It was certainly not the only award that they picked up with actress Lacey Turner receiving the trophy for Best Leading Performer ahead of her impending exit from the show.
The 40th anniversary also managed to clutch the Scene of the Year thanks to Angie's shock return.
Steve McFadden a won a trophy for Best Dramatic Performance as Phil Mitchell but did not attend the ceremony with Angela Wynter and Rudolph Walker also receiving prizes as Patrick and Yolande - beating Corrie fan favourites Lisa Swain and Carla Connor, affectionately known as Swarla, to the Best On-Screen Partnership award.
The Walford based soap also collected the Comedy Performance gongs and Villain of the Year.
In a major blow to Coronation Street, only David Neilson picked up the Outstanding Achievement Award as Roy Cropper which was presented to him by by his on-screen wife Julie Hesmondhalgh.

Specially grown flax crop used to create Lizard art exhibition
A plant normally used for making linen clothes has been specially grown and processed in Cornwall to make unusual sculptures are made from the dried stems and spun fibres of flax plants, and form part of a new exhibition at Kestle Barton on the artist, Alice Fox, sowed the flax seeds in the flower meadows of the art gallery in spring said: "'Flax is something we're really familiar with in terms of linen in our clothing, but we don't necessarily know where it comes from. "I work with plant fibres, so for me to know exactly where my materials have come from - taking it from seed, nurturing it, processing it, and then creating it into the final artwork – it's satisfying, immensely time consuming, and there's also a sustainability element to it."Since sowing the seeds, Ms Fox returned each season to tend, harvest, dry and spin the flax before building the artworks for the also created works out of dried blackthorn, made inks from the plants in the gallery's garden, and used mud from the nearby Frenchman's creek on the Helford Ryya Bread, curatorial director of the site, said Ms Fox is "naturally attuned to the ethos and aims of Kestle Barton"."She has a keen interest in the natural world. She possesses important knowledge of traditional skills in both textiles and growing.. her finished pieces are steeped in a sense of the familiar, and yet offer up something utterly new – a hybrid of nature and human design," she exhibition is free to enter and runs from Saturday until the end of August 2025.

'World-class' recording studio planned for Newcastle Quayside
A new £1.8m "world-class" recording studio could be open by the end of the year. Newcastle City Council said it was hoping to home the four-storey facility in the Grade II listed Coronation Building, owned by the Live Theatre, on the East Combined Authority (NECA) has now agreed to fund the scheme using money from the UK Shared Prosperity Fund. North East Mayor Kim McGuinness said: "It's about telling young people making music – you can do it here." As part of a report detailing the investment, NECA said north-east England had long struggled to attract investment from major music industry operators. Sam Fender was an "anomaly rather than the norm", it report said it was difficult to get private investment for such a "world-class music recording facility" in Newcastle due to "excessive upfront and operational costs". NECA said by funding this facility it would attract major talent, nurture local acts and drive economic growth. The space would also contain areas for filming and photography, as well as podcast studios. 'Cutting-edge space' Newcastle City Council leader Labour's Karen Kilgour said the facility would "cement the city's growing reputation" for its music scene."This is an incredibly exciting project, and while there is much still to do, we look forward to it getting off the ground," she local authority said it hoped the studios would be open by the end of the year, though the plans are yet to receive planning permission or listed building consent. Live Theatre head Jacqui Kell said the team was "thrilled" by the investment. She said: "[The money] will transform the building into cutting-edge creative space and attract major music talent to the city while supporting emerging local artists." Barrow's Dave Day 2 weekend as road closures in place
Road closures and barriers have been set up ahead of Dave Day 2, which is being held in memory of Hairy Bikers presenter Dave of bikers are expected to travel again to Barrow, Cumbria, to celebrate the life of the 66-year-old TV chef, who hailed from the town and died from cancer last Jason Woodcock - known as Woody - said people "were getting very excited" for the weekend and Furness Council warned several roads into Barrow would be "very busy" across Saturday, with crowd barriers placed in the town centre along the route. The council warned of wider congestion around junction 36 of the M6, with Dave Day motorcyclists expected to arrive in Barrow from route of the procession travels via the A590 from the M6, turning left on to Park Road at entry into Barrow and proceeding to the town centre through Abbey council said that while it was not involved in co-ordinating the event, it was working alongside emergency services to ensure public safety and minimise community impact.
