SOG submits in court sanction to prosecute Babulal Katara

Time of India2 days ago

Jaipur: Police's special operations group (SOG) Thursday submitted before the special Enforcement Directorate (ED) court here the prosecution sanction granted by state govt to proceed against suspended Rajasthan Public Service Commission (RPSC) member Babulal Katara in the 2022 Second Grade Teacher Exam paper leak case.
The prosecution sanction was submitted before the court by SOG's special public prosecutor BS Chauhan. Katara has been in jail for over two years and was denied bail April by a special CBI court, which cited strong evidence and the seriousness of the offence. Katara is accused of leaking the exam paper in collaboration with his nephew and others, allegedly accepting payments in cash, gold, and iPhones in return.
Police found the leaked paper being solved by candidates in a bus, leading to multiple arrests. Prosecutors argue that Katara, who was entrusted with preparing the exam, abused his position and played a key role in the leak. Chargesheets filed by ACB and Udaipur police name him as a central figure in the organised network behind the leak.

Andhra Pradesh horror: Dalit girl 'gangraped' for 2 years; 13 arrested

Representative image NEW DELHI: Thirteen people have been arrested in Edgurallapalli, Andhra Pradesh, in connection with the alleged gangrape of a 15-year-old Dalit girl that continued for two years, leading to her pregnancy. The case came to light on June 9 after the victim filed a complaint, with police registering charges under POCSO Act , SC/ST Atrocities Act, and BNS. Six suspects were arrested on June 9, including Achampalli Vardhan, Talari Murali, Badagorla Nandavardhan Raj, Arencheru Nagaraju, Boya Sanjeev, and Budida Rajanna, aged between 21 and 51 years. Seven more arrests followed on June 10, while the main accused remains at large. "In this heinous case, the accused were identified, traced, and arrested with coordination by special teams under Dharmavaram subdivision," said Sri Satya Sai district Superintendent of Police V Ratna at a press conference. The investigation revealed that the perpetrators allegedly blackmailed the victim using inappropriate images and videos. The girl, now eight months pregnant, is receiving treatment at a government hospital in Ananthapur district, with doctors ruling out abortion due to the advanced pregnancy stage. Police are working with the Child Welfare Committee to relocate the girl post-delivery. They have requested permission for DNA testing of the unborn child for legal proceedings. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 임플란트, 지금 시작하세요 [자세히 보기] 임플란트 더 알아보기 Undo "Despite being pregnant for eight months, no local alerted the officials. We believe caste stigma and fear led to the community's silence over the repeated abuse," said a police official. The victim, a government school student, comes from a vulnerable background with her mother working as a laborer and father deceased. Police suspect this situation made them susceptible to community pressure and silence. Some villagers allegedly pressured the girl to marry one of the accused to close the case. Police are investigating possible lapses by school, health, and child protection officials. Several arrested individuals have criminal records. Special teams have been formed to apprehend those still absconding. The arrested accused are in judicial custody, and the minor has been placed under the Juvenile Justice Board. The district administration has committed to ensuring the victim's safety, medical care, legal support, and psychological assistance during recovery. They are investigating the case and examining potential institutional oversights. (The victim's identity has not been revealed to protect her privacy as per Supreme court directives on cases related to sexual assault)

BMC completes nearly 70% of pre-mosoon desilting work of Mithi river

Nearly a month after monsoon arrived in Mumbai, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has been able to complete 69.13 per cent of the overall pre-monsoon desilting works at Mithi river till Saturday (June 21), shows data available with the civic body. The desilting of Mithi river was supposed to be completed by May 31. Following the early onset of monsoon, the deadline was revised to June 7. The civic body failed to meet both the deadlines. Civic officials said the main cause behind the slow progress is due to the investigation of a Rs 1,100 crore scam related to the desilting of Milthi river. The probe is being undertaken by the Enforcement Directorate's (ED) Special Investigation Team (SIT). Officials said in May, the owners of the contractual firms, along with their supervisors, went absconding, leading to the incomplete desilting work. The BMC appointed a new contractor and civic officials said the desilting of Mithi river will continue till June 30. Every year, the 18km-long Mithi river is desilted ahead of monsoon as a flood mitigation measure. The entire stretch of the river is divided into three stretches or packages. The first package comprises the longest stretch of 11.8km between Vihar Lake Sanjay Gandhi National Park (SGNP)—from where the river originates—-to Teacher's Colony (Bandra East) covering Vakola and Kalina, which are low-lying areas. Civic data shows that in this stretch, around 83 per cent of the silt has been removed till date. The second stretch of 1.3km largely covers the Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC), where 50.55 per cent of silt has been removed so far. Around 72.09 per cent silt has been removed from the final stretch of 4.7km that covers Dharavi and Mahim areas and eventually goes into the Arabian Sea. During monsoon, the water level in the river swells, which makes the river overflow in the adjoining areas. The Mithi river was considered to be one of the factors that caused the infamous waterlogging incident in July 2006 that crippled the entire city. Civic officials maintained that incomplete desilting work is not going to be a case of concern during monsoon. 'While we have completed desilting more than 80 per cent in the first stretch so far, the progress has been slow in the second and the third stretches. However, these factors are not going to be any case of concern because at the BKC area, the river bed gets wide enough to allow smooth flow of water in the case of heavy rains. In the third stretch near the Mahim area, there is a dense mangrove cover that acts as a buffer against flooding and waterlogging. Also, this area has a wider outfall so clearly we have a natural geographical advantage,' a senior official told The Indian Express. 'Currently, rainfall has stopped. During the ongoing dry patch, we intend to complete a significant chunk of desilting the Mithi river in the next one week. We will be able to achieve significant progress by the end of this month,' added the official. Data available with the BMC shows that 100 per cent of the pre-monsoon desilting work has been completed in all the major drains at Mumbai's island city, eastern and western suburbs while 78 per cent of desilting has been completed in the minor drains. Mumbai has a vast network of nullahs, with 261.52km of major nullahs (over 1.5 metres wide) and 411.56 km of minor nullahs (less than 1.5 metres wide), along with other types of drains like arch and roadside drains. The overall network of drains in Mumbai stands at nearly 3,800 km. Ahead of monsoon this year, the BMC had appointed 25 agencies on a two-year contract for Rs 468 crore to carry out desilting in Mumbai.
