It's the second meeting this year of the Peel Police Service Board, and a crowd of supporters — including a dozen or so uniformed officers — have come to watch the proceedings.
Chief Nishan Duraiappah — or 'Chief Nish' as most call him — takes his seat at the front of the room. He's flanked by his four deputies to his right and, on his left, the members of the police oversight board, sporting blazers bearing the embroidered emblem of the organization on the breast pocket.

Police say they responded to reports of an assault just after noon. Police say the suspect allegedly assaulted and sexually assaulted the victim after approaching them on the subway platform. The suspect allegedly fled the area on foot shortly after. The victim sustained non-life-threatening injuries, police say. The suspect has been identified as Anthony Nguyen, 32, who is wanted in connection with another sexual assault that occurred on Saturday night at Bathurst Subway Station. Nguyen is wanted for choking, two counts of sexual assault and three counts of assault. He is described to be 5 foot 10, with a medium build and black hair. He was last seen wearing a black shirt, blue jeans, black toque and black and white running shoes. One dead, one hospitalized after stabbing in North York: police

Toronto police investigating after two people were stabbed in North York on Sunday June 22, 2025 (CP24 photo). A man has died after two people were reportedly stabbed near Wilson Ave. and Beverly Hills Dr. just after noon on Sunday. Police say officers responded to the area and located two victims with stab wounds. One person was transported to hospital with life-threatening injuries, where he was pronounced dead shortly after. The second victim was also taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Both victims are men in their 50s, Acting Insp. Todd Jocko told reporters Sunday evening. 'Unfortunately, despite the best efforts of first responders and medical staff, that male was sadly pronounced deceased at the hospital,' Jocko said. tps Police say a 70-year-old man was taken into custody at the scene in connection with the incident. It's unclear what led up to the stabbing or what relationship the suspect may have had with the victims, but police say the investigation is ongoing. 'There is going to be an increased police presence here,' Jocko said. 'There is no ongoing threat to the public and no outstanding suspects at this time.' A man has died in hospital and another man was injured after being stabbed inside a North York shelter Sunday afternoon, Toronto police say. A man in 70s has been arrested in connection to the incident, said Acting Insp. Todd Jocko, duty senior officer for the Toronto Police Service. Both victims are in their 50s, Jocko said. The stabbing happened at the shelter located in the area of Wilson Avenue and Beverly Hills Drive. Police were called to the area shortly after noon. When officers arrived, they tried to save the life of one man who was in life-threatening condition, Jocko said. Toronto paramedics took both men to hospital. The one in life-threatening condition was pronounced dead there. The other man who suffered non-life-threatening injuries is still in hospital. "We understand that these incidents are alarming and concerning for people in the community. Please rest assured that we are dedicating all the necessary resources to this investigation," Jocko told reporters near the scene. Jocko said there is no threat to the public and there are no outstanding suspects in the stabbing. Homicide detectives have taken over the investigation. Jocko said there will be an increased police presence in the area as officers continue to investigate.
