OIL starts hydrocarbon exploration in Tripura

, has initiated its maiden hydrocarbon exploration project in Tripura at
Debtamura hill
in Gomati district under India's Hydrocarbon Exploration and Licensing Policy (HELP).
Earlier this week, OIL officials began their exploration activities following a technical report that indicated substantial hydrocarbon deposits in the area. The commencement was marked by a modest ground-breaking ceremony in the hilly settlement.
Officials confirmed their plans to drill the initial well within the Baramura-Debtamura Reserve Forest, situated along the Indo-Bangladesh border. The state's hydrocarbon exploration efforts have encountered obstacles due to extensive forest reserves and transportation challenges.
Over the past 53 years, ONGC has established more than 200 wells, primarily across West Tripura, South Tripura, Gomati and North Tripura districts. Currently, it generates 3.5 Million Metric Standard Cubic Meters of gas daily, supporting the 726MW Palatana power facility and the 100MW power station at Monarchak.
ONGC supplies gas to Tripura Natural Gas Company Ltd, which operates approximately 12 Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) stations.

After Mumbra accident, state begins work on unified bus network for MMR
MUMBAI: Twelve days after the accident on a crowded local train near Mumbra that killed five passengers and left nine injured, the state government has initiated steps to address one of the root causes: the lack of reliable public transport alternatives. In a bid to reduce pressure on the suburban rail system, a long-pending plan to integrate bus operations across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) is finally underway. 'At a time when the government is focused on building metro rail lines, there must also be a push to improve bus services,' said AV Shenoy, member of the Mumbai Mobility Forum. 'Integrated and frequent bus services can help ease pressure on suburban trains and serve as effective feeders to metro and railway stations.' (Hindustan Times) For the first time, authorities are mapping and consolidating routes run by various municipal transport undertakings—BEST, Thane Municipal Transport (TMT), Navi Mumbai Municipal Transport (NMMT), Kalyan Dombivli Municipal Transport (KDMT), and others—across Greater Mumbai, Thane, Navi Mumbai, Ambernath, Mira-Bhayandar, Vasai-Virar and Ulhasnagar. A special committee comprising senior officials from these municipal corporations and transport agencies has been formed and held its second meeting on Friday. The committee is tasked with drawing up a unified operational blueprint to streamline services, reduce duplication, improve frequency, and address long passenger wait times—especially on inter-city routes where different undertakings currently operate in silos. Mapping, integration and route optimisation 'We are looking at three crucial aspects,' said SVR Srinivas, general manager of the Brihanmumbai Electricity Supply and Transport (BEST) Undertaking, which is playing a lead role in the initiative. 'The first is identifying all the bus routes in the MMR that connect Mumbai with neighbouring cities like Navi Mumbai and Thane. This will help prevent duplication and allow us to plan bus schedules in a coordinated manner.' For instance, the BEST-operated AC-700 from Borivali to Thane via Mira Road overlaps with Route 65-AC operated by TMT. Under the unified framework, schedules will be synchronised to minimise wait times and optimise frequency across these overlapping corridors. At present, passengers using intercity buses often wait 45–60 minutes between services, and multiple buses from different undertakings may ply the same route within minutes of each other—highlighting the inefficiencies of the current system. The committee is collecting data on fleet strength, route networks, frequency (headway), and timetables. An integrated route map and master timetable are in the works. One network, shared assets Apart from synchronising bus schedules, the committee is also exploring shared use of infrastructure—such as depots, bus stations (especially near railway terminals), electric charging stations, and CNG refuelling points. There is also a plan to share best practices in maintenance and repair using new technologies. Once a detailed analysis is complete, the committee will recommend fare rationalisation across services to ensure affordability and consistency for passengers travelling across municipal limits. 'In the current scenario, each undertaking plans independently. Our goal is to unify operations so that passengers benefit from a truly regional transport system,' said another senior official involved in the initiative. A necessary shift beyond metro ambitions Transport experts have long argued that while Mumbai's metro expansion grabs headlines, surface transport like buses plays an equally crucial role, especially in last-mile connectivity. CM says ONGC to permanently cap leaking well in Sivasagar, US team in Assam
1 2 3 4 5 6 Dibrugarh: Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday announced that the Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) will permanently cap its leaking crude oil well in Sivasagar district after two emergency efforts failed to contain the gas blowout. "Plan A and B failed to control the escalating gas leak crisis at ONGC's Rudrasagar Field in Sivasagar. Today morning ONGC chairman informed me that the company will activate Plan C, which is permanent capping of the well for controlling the gas leak," Sarma said. "Capping of the well will begin tomorrow and will be carried out in consultation with the US experts. It is expected to be completed within the next four or five days," Sarma said. A three-member team from Cudd Well Control, USA, arrived in Sivasagar on Friday afternoon to assist with the crisis. The involvement of the US specialists marks a significant escalation in containment efforts, as nearly 350 families remain displaced in relief camps due to the prolonged emergency. "The international experts were given a detailed briefing on the situation and past efforts. They've conducted a firsthand assessment of the site and will begin their specialised intervention on Saturday morning," said a senior ONGC official. Following high-level consultations with ONGC leadership, the American team proceeded to the site for a detailed situational analysis to determine the advanced techniques required to cap the well safely. Meanwhile, ONGC engineers have been preparing for the capping effort by clearing non-essential equipment and developing an alternate access route to facilitate safer movement around the volatile zone. The ongoing crisis has raised concerns over environmental fallout and the wellbeing of displaced residents. The Sivasagar district administration continues to coordinate with ONGC to support for the 350 affected families staying in relief camps. "We are providing all necessary assistance to the families and remain in close coordination with ONGC's emergency team. Our top priority is public safety and supporting the well-control operations," said Sivasagar deputy commissioner Ayush Garg. The Rudrasagar oil field is a key production asset for ONGC in Assam, but operations have been halted while containment efforts continue.

India core sector growth comes in at 0.7 per cent in May
The growth of core sectors in India slowed down to 0.7 per cent (provisional) in May against 6.9% in same month last year, official data released on June 20 showed. The ICI measures the combined and individual performance of production of eight core industries -- Coal, Crude Oil, Natural Gas, Refinery Products, Fertilizers, Steel, Cement and Electricity. These industries make up 40.27 per cent of the weight of items in the IIP .
