Suspect In Minnesota Lawmaker Assassination Is Ex-Aide of Governor Tim Walz: Report
Last Updated:
Vance Luther Boelter, who reportedly impersonated a police officer and shot US Senator John Hoffman and Representative Melissa Hortman, was a former appointee of Governor Tim Walz.
The suspect of the shocking Minnesota shootings – where a US Representative was killed and a Senator was shot and wounded – has been identified as a former appointee of Governor Tim Walz, according to police sources.
US Senator John Hoffman and US Representative Melissa Hortman, both Democrats, were shot along with their spouses by a gunman impersonating a law enforcement officer. Hortman and her husband were killed, while Hoffman and his wife received multiple injuries but are expected to survive.
Walz called it a politicaly-motivated attack at a time of deep political divisions in the United States. The suspect, identified as Vance Luther Boelter, was currently at large as a massive manhunt is underway, according to New York Post.
Boelter, 57, was appointed by Walz in 2019 to serve a four-year stint on the Governor's Workforce Development Board, according to legal documents. He previously served on the Governor's Workforce Development Council in 2016 under former Governor Mark Dayton.
Boelter had fliers with the words 'No Kings" in his car, a reference to Saturday's planned protests against the Trump Administration, as well as a 'manifesto" and a list of other politicians' names, said police, who briefly cornered the shooter at Hortman's home before the suspect fled.
Drew Evans, superintendent of the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, said Hoffman and his wife were shot first, and as police investigated, Hortman and her husband were shot about 90 minutes later.
'This was an act of targeted political violence," Walz told reporters. 'Peaceful discourse is the foundation of our democracy. We don't settle our differences with violence or at gunpoint."
US President Donald Trump reacted to the shooting, saying such horrific violence will not be tolerated in the United States. 'I have been briefed on the terrible shooting that took place in Minnesota, which appears to be a targeted attack against State Lawmakers. Our Attorney General, Pam Bondi, and the FBI, are investigating the situation, and they will be prosecuting anyone involved to the fullest extent of the law," he said.

North Kora fired multiple rounds with rocket launches in Yellow Sea after South Korea holds air drills with US, Japan
A day after South Korea conducted joint air drills with the US and Japan, North Korea fired over 10 rounds of rockets into the Yellow Sea on Thursday morning from Sunan near Pyongyang in a north-westerly direction, according to South Korea's military. South Korea typically classifies the weapons used by North Korea's military as short-range ballistic missiles. Under UN Security Council resolutions, North Korea is prohibited from using ballistic missiles, Reuters reported. The missiles were launched from Pyongyang's upgraded 240-millimeter multiple rocket launcher, which was unveiled last year and is believed to be capable of striking South Korean population centers, comprising the Seoul metropolitan area, New York Post report said. A South Korean military official informed local media, 'The projectiles, believed to be multiple launch rockets, flew tens of kilometers before falling into the Yellow Sea." The official mentioned South Korean and US intelligence are closely monitoring details. South Korea, the US, and Japan held their first trilateral military air exercise on Wednesday under the administration of Lee Jae Myung, who was elected earlier this month. Tensions on the Korean Peninsula have escalated in recent months, after North Korean leader Kim Jong Un's growing alignment with Russian President Vladimir Putin. North Korea has reportedly supplied weapons and up to 15,000 troops to support Russia's war in Ukraine. South Korean officials fear Pyongyang may receive economic assistance and advanced military technology in return, potentially boosting its weapons development programmes. Kim has also continued to advance his nuclear and missile capabilities. This year, North Korea successfully constructed two 5,000-ton naval destroyers, with Kim describing the new warship as 'convincing proof of the rapid transformation of our Navy.'

'Democratic Party corrupt': Indian-origin county judge KP George announces switch to GOP; Republicans say they don't want him
Indian-origin county judge KP George announces he will be joining the Republican Party. Indian-origin judge of Fort Bend County, Texas, recently announced that he will be switching from the Democratic Party to the Republican Party and will run as a Republican in his 2026 re-election bid. But the Republican Party of Texas said they don't support George's attempt to rebrand himself as a Republican as George never supported the principles of the party and is only switching the party as he is facing money laundering charges. George made history when he was first elected in 2018 as an Indian-American. 'Today, I'm making an all-important announcement that I am officially joining the Republican Party. For the past few years, it has become very clear to me, and also many others, that the Democratic Party has become one of corrupt and radical political ideology and positions that simply do not reflect the values of Fort Bend County families, small businesses and hardworking residents of Fort Bend County,' George said as he announced his decision. 'I have always believed in the foundational American principles of faith, family and freedom, And I realize that the Republican Party champions these values,' George said. Judge George is facing an indictment on a misdemeanor offense and has consistently maintained his innocence, calling the charges against him a 'political witch hunt.' The Democrats have demanded he resign. In his press conference, George said prosecutors offered to drop the felony charges if he agreed to resign. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Scam Exposed: What They Won't Tell You about zero trust! The Republican Party said in a statement that the charges against KP George are rooted in documented allegations of unethical and possibly criminal behavior. "KP George has never supported our platform, principles or priorities," party chairman Abraham George said. "While we are not in the business of telling people they cannot become Republicans, we are also not going to stand by while someone tries to hijack our Party's good name to escape the consequences of their actions," KP George said he does not expect everyone to embrace him. "I am looking forward to prove it to them. I'm going to be a better Republican than anybody in the coming months," he said. Born in India's Kerala, KP George studied in India. He immigrated to the United States in 1993 and started working for a financial firm in New York. Then he settled in Texas, earning certifications in finance and becoming a certified financial planner.

‘Assault on democracy…': Ted Cruz torches Biden's autopen use, slams democrat 'chutzpah' for 'lying'
US: Nearly six months after Joe Biden left the White House, Senate Republicans are still scrutinising his presidency, kicking off the first in what's expected to be a series of congressional hearings this year on his mental fitness in office. Republicans on the Senate Judiciary Committee brought in three witnesses Wednesday — none of whom served in Biden's administration — to scrutinise his time in office, arguing that the former president, his staff and the media must be held accountable. Democrats boycotted the hearing and criticised Republicans for 'armchair-diagnosing' Biden when the committee could be looking into serious matters. Show more Show less
