Meghan's secret wedding invite strategy uncovered - and bold words from guest
According to a royal insider, the high-profile celebrities who attended Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's wedding in 2018 were invited for one key reason
When Prince Harry and Meghan Markle got married in 2018, the guest list included everyone from royal family members, close friends and a wide array of the Hollywood elite.
Harry and Meghan tied the knot in St George's Chapel in Windsor Castle on May 19th 2018, with thousands of people descended onto the streets of Windsor to catch a glimpse of the royal newlyweds, while millions of people from around the world watched the nuptials from home. In comparison to other royal weddings, one unique feature of Harry and Meghan's guest list stood out: the sheer amount of high-profile celebrities.
Among the famous faces in the congregation were Oprah, George and Amal Clooney, Victoria and David Beckham, Kris Jenner, Idris Elba, Priyanka Chopra, Elton John, and various members from the cast of Suits, who all received gold-embossed invitations for the big day.
Despite the crowd being filled with celebrities, one royal author has claimed that Meghan and Harry didn't actually know many of the A-listers invited. Instead, it is claimed those lucky enough to receive an invitation only did so Meghan could 'recruit' the celebs as new friends.
In her 2022 book called The Palace Papers, royal author Tina Brown wrote: 'The celebrity guests were a portrait not of Meghan's intimate circle but of the friends she most wanted to recruit.'
Ms Brown said that Meghan 'scarcely' knew Oprah Winfrey before the royal wedding, having only met once or twice. Oprah eventually went on to be the face of the infamous 2021 interview with Meghan, in which she shared her scathing thoughts on the Firm and how she was treated during her time as a working royal.
The royal author also recalled an intimate conversation overheard from the church pews, with Boris Johnson 's sister Rachel alleging that Princess Diana 's former flatmate turned to George and Amal Clooney alongside her in the pew and asked how they knew Harry or Meghan, to which they responded brightly: 'We don't.'
During the wedding, Mr and Mrs Clooney were given seats for the special ceremony right next to Lady Carolyn Warren, the wife of the late Queen's bloodstock adviser John Warren, and opposite Princess Margaret's son, Viscount Linley.
Despite the calibre of her wedding guest list, Meghan has seemingly failed to foster lasting relationships with some the celebs after her big day, as none of her wedding guests appeared on her Netflix programme With Love, Meghan.
Viewers largely expected her to bring in the likes of Oprah, tennis superstar Serena Williams and filmmaker Tyler Perry - who is godfather to Princess Lilibet - as guests on her lifestyle show.
Instead, guests featured names such as Meghan's former Suits co-star Abigail Spencer, Delfina Figueras - socialite wife of Harry's polo-playing chum Nacho - and chef Roy Choi
The biggest stars to appear in the show were Harry himself - who had a few minutes of airtime in the final episode in the eight-part series - and actress, writer and producer Mindy Kaling, who appears in the second episode.

King Charles follows Harry and Meghan's footsteps with surprising new move
King Charles has teamed up with an unlikely movie star in a Netflix documentary about the 'power of believing in young people'. The monarch is offering a rare insight into The King's Trust as he celebrates the charity's 50th anniversary alongside Idris Elba. The documentary is set to be broadcast next year with filming to begin next week, according to the Telegraph. This comes after Meghan Markle announced today that she is expanding her As Ever brand with its first alcoholic offering of a rosé wine. The Netflix film is being made in collaboration with The King's Foundation and is being filmed at Dumfries House in Scotland. Made by Elba's own production company, 22 Summers, it will mark the King's first collaboration with Netflix, joining the Duke and Duchess of Sussex who have made several documentaries for the streaming platform. But it will not be his first venture into documentary making. In January it was revealed that the monarch will be appearing in a feature-length film on Amazon Prime about his 'philosophy of harmony'. The Netflix film will also involve young people supported in the trust so that they can build experience in film and TV. The King's Trust began in 1976 when the King used his £7,400 severance pay from the Royal Navy to create The Prince's Trust, helping disadvantaged young people get into education and jobs. Ahead of the documentary, Elba has spoken about how the charity changed his life. The actor was just 16 when he was awarded a £1,500 grant that helped him to train at the National Youth Music Theatre. Despite initially thinking it was a waste of time, he came home from school one day to find a letter containing the money. Discussing the trust and his own charity, the Elba Hope Foundation, he said: 'The King's Trust gave me an opportunity that changed my life. 'At a time when I didn't have the resources to pursue my ambitions, they offered real, practical support – including financial help – that helped me take those first steps to advance my career. 'Today, through the Elba Hope Foundation, I'm focused on creating those same opportunities for young people who are full of potential but lacking access. Around the world, millions are still waiting for that one door to open. More Trending 'This documentary is about shining a light on what's possible when it does – and why the work of The King's Trust remains so important.' Earlier this month, the King made an appearance in east London for the city's first ever SXSW festival. The Kingdom Choir, who performed at the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's wedding in 2018, sang to Charles while he toured the event in Shoreditch. Meghan Markle's brand As Ever sells out in minutes but fans are skeptical
Some fans have accused the Duchess of playing the 'sold out' game with her products. Meghan Markle took to social media to share her delight as her As Ever products once again sold out in minutes. However, some fans are sceptical - with some suggesting the Duchess of Sussex is playing the 'sold out' game. In an Instagram story shared yesterday, Meghan could be seen telling her followers that she 'couldn't believe' that nearly all of her items had sold out - even the flower sprinkles which she said she knew would be a hit once again with customers. She said that her team at As Ever 'spent time' making sure they had enough stock for the new sale, so customers could get their hands on a new honey and an apricot spread. On top of this, the Duchess also did a restock of six items from her initial sale, which was said to 'fly off the shelves' two months ago. In the post, the mum of two said: "We spent so much time making sure we had so much more inventory. That's why we took the time and you guys are doing it again. We are nearly sold out on everything. '"And I can't believe it - even flower sprinkles which I knew would be the big one again. So that has more inventory than all of it and that is also about to sell out." While many fans may have been waiting in anticipation of the restock and new products, others were a bit more dubious about how quickly the stock was said to have sold out on Friday. On social media, one person said: "She is playing the 'sold out' game and thinking we are all stupid. You fool no one Meghan Markle." With a second person adding: "Wait the only new thing she dropped was the apricot spread. And it sold out after 20 mins. Meghan must think people are really stupid." A third user also commented: "Wow they have super small quantities. The apricot and tea already sold out." While fans noticed the new apricot spread and honey within yesterday's sale, those waiting for Meghan's new Napa Valley rose wine will need to wait until July 1 for it to be available. This rose is Meghan's first step into the wine market and the wine is said to be sourced up the west coast from her Montecito mansion in California. Described by her brand as having "soft notes of stone fruit, gentle minerality and a lasting finish", this "bespoke blend" is said to be launching just in time for some summer entertaining. In Meghan's first sale, she launched nine As Ever products, which included a raspberry spread that came in a keepsake packaging or in a normal jar, flower sprinkles, wildflower honey with honeycomb, a crepe mix, a shortbread cookie mix and three herbal teas - lemon ginger, peppermint and hibiscus. All of these products were said to have sold out in 45 minutes after their initial release. For the restock, the Duchess brought back the three herbal teas, the flower sprinkles, crepe mix and shortbread cookie mix. Before Friday's sale, Meghan said: "We are pleased to share that many favourites from our debut As Ever collection are back – and, we've added something new. We hope you find some special treats that bring extra joy to you and your loved ones."
