Real Madrid forward Kylian Mbappe has been admitted to hospital for stomach issues on the sidelines of the ongoing FIFA Club World Cup 2025 in the United States of America.
'Our player Kylian Mbappé has acute gastroenteritis and has been hospitalized for various tests and treatment,' the La Liga side said in a statement.
The France international was also absent from Madrid's matchday squad for its group stage match against Saudi Pro League side Al Hilal. The match ended in a 1-1 draw.
A club source told Reuters that Mbappe, who was taken to hospital on Wednesday, had been isolated from his teammates since Tuesday and was considered out of the group stage of the Club World Cup.
Coach Xabi Alonso hinted on Wednesday that Mbappe was doubtful for Real's next game, against Mexican side Pachuca on Sunday in Charlotte, NC.
Mbappe joined the Los Blancos from Paris Saint-Germain ahead of the 2024-25 season. He went on to score 31 goals in 34 games in La Liga while he netted seven in 14 appearances in the UEFA Champions League.
In the revamped Club World Cup, Real Madrid is placed in Group H alongside Al Hila, RB Salzburg, and Pachuca. Austrian side Salzburg is currently leading the group after beating Pachuca 2-1.

Jun 22, 2025 08:39 AM IST PASADENA, Calif. — River Plate and Monterrey played to a lively 0-0 draw on Saturday night in the second round of group play at the Club World Cup. HT Image River Plate had 18 shot attempts, but the Argentine powerhouse got none of its six shots on goal past Monterrey goalkeeper Esteban Andrada, a native of Argentina. Monterrey got two of its three shot attempts on net, but Franco Armani also kept a clean sheet for River Plate. The teams traded 40 combined fouls and eight yellow cards throughout a chippy match at the Rose Bowl before a raucous crowd of 57,393, with both teams benefitting from large supporter sections on each end of the famed stadium. River Plate had the first half's best scoring chances shortly before halftime, but Giuliano Galoppo's unobstructed shot from the penalty area curled over Monterrey's net before Lucas Martínez Quarta brutally shanked a point-blank volley moments later. Monterrey opened Club World Cup play four days earlier with an impressive draw against Champions League finalist Inter Milan. River Plate also looked sharp in a 3-1 victory over Urawa Red Diamonds in its opener in Seattle. In the 76th minute, Andrada smothered Miguel Borja's dangerous close-range shot after a run into the box. Nothing is decided in Group E. Inter and River Plate are on top with four points each, but they must play each other on Wednesday in Seattle while Monterrey, which has two points, takes on winless Urawa in Pasadena. soccer: /soccer This article was generated from an automated news agency feed without modifications to text. Lionel Messi breaks silence on Cristiano Ronaldo rivalry in honest remark: ‘We're not friends…'

Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo are considered to be the greatest players in 21st century football history. The pair have won countless team trophies and individual honours. They also spent nine seasons in the prime of their careers facing off regularly against each other, while representing rival clubs Barcelona and Real Madrid. Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi have won 79 official trophies in total.(AP) The pair also share a mutual respect for each other, as revealed in interviews. Ronaldo has also revealed in the past that their rivalry motivated him to get better. Recently, Messi broke his silence on his relationship with the Portugal international. Speaking to D Sports at the sidelines of the FIFA Club World Cup 2025, he said, 'I hold a deep respect and admiration for Cristiano Ronaldo and everything he has achieved in his career, and continues to achieve, as he's still performing at an elite level.' 'Our rivalry was purely on the pitch, driven by our desire to give everything for our respective teams. Off the field, we're just ordinary people. While we're not friends in the traditional sense, as we don't socialize, there has always been mutual respect between us,' he added. Messi and Ronaldo have 79 trophies in total (Messi has bagged 45 and Ronaldo 34) during their senior careers so far, and have also consistently broken the 50-goal barrier in a single season. Also, according to IFFHS, they are the only two players to score over 800 goals each in their careers for club and country. Ronaldo also holds the record for most official goals in a career. Their rivalry has also been compared to other rivalries like Ali-Frazier, Prost-Senna, Djokovic-Nadal and Federer-Nadal. Messi is La Liga's all-time top goal-scorer, and also has the most assists in the competition's history. Meanwhile, Ronaldo is second for goals scored and is fourth for assists provided, and is also the Champions League all-tme top appearance maker, goalscorer and second-highest in assists after Ryan Giggs. Messi is third in appearances and assits provided and in second for goals scored in the competition's history. Ronaldo also has the records for most international caps and most international goals, with Messi ranked eleventh in appearances and third for goals scored.

Inter Milan, Borussia Dortmund Claim First Wins At Club World Cup

Inter Milan came from behind to beat Urawa Red Diamonds and knock the Japanese side out of the Club World Cup on Saturday, while Borussia Dortmund held off Mamelodi Sundowns to win a seven-goal thriller. At Lumen Field in Seattle, Ryoma Watanabe got an early opening goal for Urawa Reds, who were backed by a noisy contingent of their supporters. But captain Lautaro Martinez -- who got Inter's equaliser in their 1-1 draw with Monterrey of Mexico in their opening game -- repeated the trick to level matters with a clever overhead kick 12 minutes from time. Valentin Carboni was then the unlikely hero as he grabbed the winner two minutes into injury time. The 20-year-old Argentine had not played a competitive game since early October after suffering a serious knee injury while on loan at Marseille. Carboni had not made an appearance for Inter in over two years, but he was on to hand to sidefoot home when the ball fell to him in the area. "Our opponents play with their hearts and to counter that as a team we need to play with more pride, be humble and know how to suffer," Martinez told broadcaster DAZN after Inter were made to work for the victory. The result left Inter provisionally top of Group E on four points, one point ahead of River Plate before the Argentinian giants faced Monterrey later in Pasadena. Meanwhile a second defeat in as many matches means Urawa Reds are eliminated, and many of their supporters were in tears at full-time. "Our emotion is very bad after this game. We are out of the tournament so now we can only fight in the last game to achieve our one and only win," said their Polish coach Maciej Skorza. - Bellingham strikes - Earlier Jobe Bellingham got his first goal for Dortmund as his new club overcame stifling heat in Cincinnati to beat Sundowns 4-3 and move to four points from two matches in Group F. The South African champions had taken a surprise early lead through a fine solo goal from Lucas Ribeiro. However, Sundowns goalkeeper Ronwen Williams handed Dortmund their equaliser on a plate, passing the ball straight to Felix Nmecha, who stroked home. Serhou Guirassy gave Dortmund the lead with his 35th goal since the beginning of the season. English midfielder Bellingham, who this month followed older brother Jude's footsteps in joining the German side from Sunderland, started for the first time for Dortmund and made it 3-1 just before the break. Khuliso Mudau's own goal made it 4-1 before the hour mark, but Sundowns salvaged some pride by reducing the deficit through Iqraam Rayners and Lebo Mothiba. "I'm sweating like I've just come out of a sauna," said Dortmund coach Niko Kovac when asked about the conditions in a game which started at midday local time. "It was tough going for both teams, but the opposition are used to it. We certainly didn't give our best performance, but that wasn't possible today." Sundowns will still go into their final game in Group F with a chance of qualifying for the last 16. "The boys made a wonderful performance... it was a hell of a match. I'm not happy but very proud," said their Portuguese coach, Miguel Cardoso. Fluminense, who held Dortmund 0-0 in their first match, took on Ulsan of South Korea at the MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford in the other Group F game later on Saturday.
