Nneka Ogwumike scores 26, Skylar Diggins adds 20 to help Storm beat Liberty 89-79
SEATTLE (AP) — Nneka Ogwumike scored 26 points on 12-of-17 shooting, Skylar Diggins added 20 points and the Seattle Storm beat the defending WNBA champion New York Liberty 89-79 on Sunday.
Seattle (9-5) has won three games in a row and six of seven.
New York (10-3) has lost back-to-back road games and three of four overall. The Liberty committed a season-high 21 turnover, which Seattle converted into 22 points.
Gabby Williams had 12 points, a career-high 10 assists, six rebounds and four steals. Williams had her first career double-double last time out in a 90-83 win over Las Vegas on Friday.
Williams nearly had the ball stripped but secured it and nearly threw it away but Ogwumike made a finger-tip catch and hit a 3 just before the shot clock expired to give Seattle an 85-79 lead with 1:30 left in the game.
Breanna Stewart led the Liberty with 18 points.
Ogwumike grabbed seven rebounds and moved past Tina Thompson (3,070) into ninth in WNBA history with 3,077 career rebounds.
Sabrina Ionescu (neck), Jonquel Jones (ankle) and Leonie Fiebich (overseas) did not play for the Liberty. Rebekah Gardner and Marine Johannes made their first starts of the season for the short-handed Liberty. Johannes hit two 3s and scored 12 points on 5-of-5 shooting in the first half and finished with 17 points.

The Storm play the second of three consecutive home games Tuesday against Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever. The Liberty play at Golden State on Wednesday.

The Wave dominates but plays to 0-0 tie with the Washington Spirit
SAN DIEGO (AP) — The San Diego Wave dominated possession but couldn't break through in a scoreless draw with the Washington Spirit in the National Women's Soccer League on Sunday night. The Wave (7-3-3) have dropped only one of their last five matches. San Diego's 24 points are the most they've had through the first 13 games in club history. The match was the last before the NWSL goes on its summer hiatus. The league resumes play on Aug. 1. Spirit goalkeeper Aubrey Kingsbury kept her team in the game with six saves. The Wave had the ball more than 65% of the match and made 16 shots, including six on target. It was the fourth straight draw between the two teams. The Spirit (7-4-2) had won their first five road matches this season before falling 2-0 at Portland last weekend. Mexico wins CONCACAF Gold Cup group after 0-0 draw against Costa Rica
LAS VEGAS (AP) — Mexico tied Costa Rica 0-0 on Sunday night to win Group A of the CONCACAF Gold Cup and will play Saudi Arabia in the quarterfinals. Mexico's Santiago Giménez appeared to score on a bicycle kick in the fourth minute of second-half stoppage time but the goal was disallowed by Guatemalan referee Mario Escobar following a video review. Giménez appeared to be offside when Carlos Rodríguez lofted the ball into the penalty area following a free kick. Orlando Galo's headed clearance attempt went in front of the goal to Giménez. Mexico, unbeaten in 10 Gold Cup matches against Costa Rica, finished even with the Ticos at seven points but won the group on goal difference. El Tri, which defeated the Dominican Republic and Suriname in their first two matches, will play Saudi Arabia next weekend while the Costa Ricans will face the United States. Costa Rica will be missing four regular starters. Forward Manfred Ugalde, who has three goals in the tournament, and midfielder Carlos Mora are suspended for yellow-card accumulation.
