Bulgari's new high jewellery collection is more than just big rocks

This month, in the Sicilian resort town of Taormina, otherwise known as the setting of season two of The White Lotus, Bulgari revealed its latest, kaleidoscopic high jewellery collection, Polychroma.
'The idea was to include as many colours as possible,' says Lucia Silvestri, Bulgari's creative director of jewellery. She counts 56 tones expressed in precious gems – matching tanzanites with lapis lazuli or artfully clashing morganites with onyx. 'There are so many new combinations of colours, stones and cuts all together.'

A temporary gallery is opening up next door to Subiaco's Regal Theatre with an exhibition from local artists as part of a new city initiative to transform vacant spaces into vibrant hubs. Launching this Thursday, Subiaco has partnered with urban-renewal organisation SPACEMRKT to transform a former Sicilian restaurant into a temporary gallery space Dubbed Hayside Gallery, the venue's inaugural exhibition, titled Tension, will display a range of work across different forms of media that explore themes of form, pressure and contrast. Your local paper, whenever you want it. Curated by Shaye Preston and Kate Dolan, from Side Project, creatives include photographer Ivan Shaw, painter Emma Benichou, industrial artists Kartika Laili Ahmad and Benjamin Kontoullas, mixed-media creators Stephen Brameld and Jay Staples, sculptor Fernando Sala of FDO Studio, visual artist and signwriter Sam Bloor, as well as Dolan. Previously The Corner Italian, the site, located at 484 Hay Street, was temporarily offered to SPACEMRKT by local developer Westbridge Funds ahead of a major redevelopment next door to the heritage-listed 1930s Regal Theatre. The $78 million development, which was approved last September, comprises a nine-storey building with five commercial tenancies, a small bar and more than 70 apartments. Alongside the demolition of the former restaurant, part of the neighbouring Regal Theatre will also be knocked down to make way for accessibility upgrades, additional toilets and new bar facilities to the heritage space. Marking Subiaco's second venture with SPACEMARKT, Subiaco mayor David McMullen said the collaboration was a perfect example of realising the potential of vacant spaces for community benefit. The proposed Westbridge mixed use development next to the Regal Theatre in Subiaco Credit: Supplied / Supplied 'The partnership between the city and SPACEMRKT supports the transformation of vacant shopfronts that would otherwise continue to sit empty,' he said. 'The result is pop-up style community hubs, which encourage vibrancy, creativity and artistry. We look forward to seeing the Hay Street gallery evolve in coming months.' Director of SPACEMRKT Joel Benichou echoed Cr McMullen's sentiment. 'Creative energy can thrive anywhere, especially in the spaces most people overlook,' Benichou said. 'These two projects show what's possible when artists are given room to experiment and connect with their surroundings.' Hayside Gallery is open Thursday to Sunday. Harry Potter and White Lotus star Jason Isaacs calls out the 'worst bully' he's ever worked with during his decades in Hollywood

Jason Isaacs has called out the "worst bully" he "ever" worked alongside throughout his decades in the Hollywood film industry. The actor, best known for playing villain Lucius Malfoy in the Harry Potter film series from 2001 to 2011, shared his candid thoughts about the "bad behaviour" he witnessed on sets in an interview with Vulture on Monday. Isaacs elaborated on a "prominent" film star who once pushed him out of a shot and said the snarky actor, who he chose not to name, "did worse". "Oh Jesus. Did worse than that. Was the worst bully ever and a global icon," Isaacs said. "Did all the old tricks of doing a completely different performance off-camera than on. "Yeah, it sucked. I'd never seen anything like it. Before, I would've licked the ground that this person walked on." The award-winning actor has seen it all after 37 years of experience in Tinseltown, where he starred in several major films, including The Patriot with Mel Gibson and, most recently, HBO's hit series The White Lotus. While there's no way of telling who Isaacs deemed to be the offender, his prominent co-stars also include Ben Affleck and Bruce Willis from the film Armageddon, as well as Dennis Quaid and Sean Connery in Dragonheart. In his wide-ranging interview, Isaacs described what he mostly judges on set as "bad behaviour", including "selfishness, cruelty and bullying". "People complaining to the person who's getting them dressed, who doesn't get in a year what they earn in a day to pick their filthy underwear off the floor," he said. "That, or not turning up, or going home early, or thinking they know better than the director, or being on crack and calling prostitutes to their trailer. I come across all that stuff." Asked why he chose to protect the privacy of who he described as abysmal actors, Isaacs said he's "not so stupid" as even to give a "clue". The English star said he recently interviewed an author and friend who encouraged him to write a memoir through which to spill his secrets. Isaacs responded by saying he would never release a book, not "in a million years until everybody I know is dead" because he has "stories". He said his fantasy of writing a tome and finally revealing the truth about the rogue stars he worked with might come true if he wins the lottery. Until then, he said there's "no value" in naming and shaming other than creating "masochism and sabotage", adding "acting is all about secrets." Elsewhere in the interview, Isaacs confirmed speculation The White Lotus stars get paid $40,000 per episode. He said the "very low price" for the industry is disproportionate compared to what actors usually get for staring in big TV shows. Nevertheless, Isaacs said the stars of the hit series "would have paid to be in it" or even "probably would have given a body part" for a role.

Jason Isaacs says ‘global icon' co-star was ‘worst bully ever': ‘Never seen anything like it'

Don't miss out on the headlines from Celebrity Life. Followed categories will be added to My News. Jason Isaacs revealed that one of his 'global icon' co-stars was the 'worst bully ever'. The White Lotus star recalled a prominent actor pushing him out of a shot in a candid interview with Vulture, published this week. 'Oh Jesus. Did worse than that,' the actor remembered. The unnamed A-lister 'did all the old tricks of doing a completely different performance off-camera than on,' Isaacs, 62, claimed, per Page Six. 'Yeah, it sucked. I'd never seen anything like it,' he continued. 'Before, I would've licked the ground that this person walked on.' Isaacs opened up about his 'bully' co-star. Picture: Lisa O'Connor/AFP While the Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets star did not identify the thespian in question, he did share he has worked with many people who were 'bonkers'. Isaacs previously spoke about the co-star in question in a 2011 interview with the Telegraph, meaning we can at least narrow down that the negative experience took place before then. 'When I think someone's terrible, someone else might think they're brilliant. One of the things that's very charismatic is madness,' he told Vulture. Isaac clarified that what he 'mostly … judge[s] on set is bad behaviour.' He said: 'It's selfishness, cruelty, bullying, or people complaining to the person who's getting them dressed, who doesn't get in a year what they earn in a day to pick their filthy underwear off the floor.' Isaacs said he also noticed when actors didn't show up, left work to go home early, did drugs and called 'prostitutes to their trailer'. 'I come across all that stuff,' he shared. The actor in Harry Potter. He also recently starred in The White Lotus. Isaacs said he would not name any names because 'there is no value, other than masochism and sabotage, in telling people the truth about people I've worked with or experiences I've had.' He concluded, 'Acting is all about secrets.' Elsewhere in the interview, Isaacs spoke about the 'very low' pay cheque of US$40,000 ($61,000) per episode he and his co-stars received for working on season three of The White Lotus. 'Generally actors don't talk about pay in public because it's ridiculously disproportionate to what we do — putting on makeup and funny voices — and just upsets the public,' he said. 'But compared to what people normally get paid for big television shows, that's a very low price.' However, the Golden Globe nominee acknowledged, 'The fact is, we would have paid to be in it. We probably would have given a body part.' This article originally appeared in Page Six and was reproduced with permission.
