Texans All-Pro CB Derek Stingley Jr. ranked inside the top-32 by PFF
Derek Stingley Jr. proved that his rise in 2023 was just the beginning. Last season, the former No. 3 overall pick proved he was an elite shutdown defender who might be considered among the best players in the league for the 2025 season as the Houston Texans look to compete for a spot in the AFC Championship game.
Coming off an All-Pro season, Stingley totaled five interceptions (tied for sixth most), 18 pass breakups (second most) and allowed the second-lowest completion percentage among cornerbacks with at least 200 coverage snaps (46.7%), according to NFL Next Gen Stats in 2024. That led to a new three-year, $90 million extension this offseason, making Stingley the highest-paid cornerback in the league with an annual $30 million salary.
But while Stingley might have the respect from the Texans, is he the No. 1 cornerback entering 2025 based on projections? Not according to Pro Football Focus, which listed him as the No. 5 defensive back behind New York's Sauce Gardner, Denver's Pat Surtain II, Kansas City's Trent McDuffie and Chicago's Jaylon Johnson.
"After a poor rookie season, Stingley has generated a 90.3 PFF coverage grade over the past two seasons — the best mark among all cornerbacks," John Koso wrote. "The 2022 No. 3 overall pick plays a high-risk, high-reward brand of football and threads that needle well, as his 12 interceptions across the past two years lead the league."
Even after a down rookie season, Stingley made up for the lack of production with two Pro Bowl-caliber seasons. Fully healthy, he's been the definition of consistent when asked to line up in man coverage and an enforcer in one-on-one battles against top receivers.
The highest-paid defensive back should begin the season as the top name opposite Kamari Lassiter in the AFC. In time with another dominant campaign, he should land no lower than No. 2 and compete with Surtain for Defensive Player of the Year accolades for the long haul.
The Texans open the season against Davante Adams and the Los Angeles Rams at SoFi Stadium on Sept. 7.

NFL top 100 rankings: Arizona Cardinals TE Trey McBride comes in at No. 42

Pete Prisco ranked the top 100 players of 2025 in the NFL. Only Trey McBride makes the list for the Cardinals. Every offseason, we see player rankings — top 100, top 101, top 50, whatever. Every year, we see where Arizona Cardinals players land. CBS Sports' Pete Prisco gave his top 100 list entering the 2025 season. Only one Cardinals player made the list — not Budda Baker, not James Conner. The only Cardinal to make the top 100 was tight end Trey McBride, coming in at No. 42, moving up from No. 83 a year ago. McBride finished fourth in the league with 111 catches in his breakout season. He had just two touchdown catches, which is a number that will go up this season ... count on it. McBride 100% should be on this list. He has entered the conversation as being the best tight end in the NFL. It is true that his two touchdown catches were simply fluky. He did rush for a touchdown and score once on a fumble recovery in the end zone. He was a frequent target in the red zone, but because of a couple of drops and a couple of missed throws by quarterback Kyler Murray, he didn't end up with six to eight touchdown grabs. Of course, while McBride is an easy choice for this list, two Cardinals players are notably snubbed — Baker and Conner. Baker continues to play at an elite level at safety and gets Pro Bowl nods year after year, a sign that coaches and players respect and value him. Conner's absence is disappointing because he produces among the best running backs, reaching nearly 1,100 yards last season and continuing to be a big-play runner as he advances in his career. Looking ahead to next offseason, hopefully McBride isn't alone. It would be good to see McBride, Baker, Conner, quarterback Kyler Murray and receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. in Prisco's rankings in 2026. Ex Steelers LB 'Excited' Aaron Rodgers is in Pittsburgh

Ex Steelers LB 'Excited' Aaron Rodgers is in Pittsburgh originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Unless you've been living under a rock, you've heard the news that 10-time Pro Bowler and four-time NFL MVP, Aaron Rodgers, will suit up for the Pittsburgh Steelers next season. Advertisement It was a long and arduous process, but Rodgers finally agreed to a one-year, $13.65 million contract with $10 million guaranteed. One Steelers legend, four-time Pro Bowler and Super Bowl champion linebacker Joey Porter Sr., couldn't be happier that Rodgers is in town. 'Man, me being honest, I was excited,' Porter said. 'I got to play against Aaron Rodgers and watch Aaron Rodgers do his thing. I feel like he got a lot of juice left in the arm. … He's not a guy that is going to go out there and trick it off. He ain't going to put us in bad situations. We ain't asking him to save us — we ask him not to lose the four games that we lose every year that we're not supposed to lose.' Porter Sr. outlined his experience playing against Rodgers on the Not Just Football with Cam Heyward podcast. Advertisement The question, though, is, which version of Rodgers will the Steelers get? Porter Sr. played against the Rodgers who was winning league MVPs and throwing for 40 touchdowns each season. That's not the player who took the field last year for the New York Jets. Rodgers, who turns 42 in December, led the Jets to a 5-12 mark in his only full season in New York. Don't forget (Jets fans won't) that he missed all but four plays of the 2023 campaign after rupturing his Achilles on the first drive of the first game after joining the team two offseasons ago. Last season should be one to forget for Rodgers. He finished below the league average in passer rating - a stat of which he's the all-time career leader, and 31st in the league in QBR - behind names like Aidan O'Connell and Kirk Cousins. Advertisement His five wins last season are his lowest win total since 2017, when he played just seven games for Green Bay and posted a 4-3 mark. Rodgers' previous low win total was six, which he posted three times since taking over as the Packers' starting quarterback in 2008. Which Rodgers will Pittsburgh get in 2025? It shouldn't take long to find out. Related: Analyst Thinks T.J. Although he has already spent a season in New York, one NFL analyst anticipates a major rise for Burns during the 2025 NFL season. Marc Ross of listed seven players who he believes are "guaranteed risers" in the league this season. Burns topped the list now that he has a young stud joining the organization. "I guarantee the two-time Pro Bowler's production will vastly increase with Abdul Carter's arrival," Ross wrote. "The No. 3 overall draft pick is the most talented pass pusher to enter the league since Micah Parsons in 2021, and Carter's impact on the Giants defense is likely to be similar to the one the four-time Pro Bowler has made in Dallas." He was the 16th overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, joining the Carolina Panthers. It wasn't until year two that Burns became a full-time starter for the Panthers. He appeared in 15 games, generating 58 tackles and nine sacks. Brian Burns #0 of the New York Giants looks on against the Philadelphia Eagles at Lincoln Financial Field on January 5, 2025 in Philadelphia, Burns' five-year run in Carolina, he earned two Pro Bowl nods. His first came in 2021, when he produced 50 tackles, nine sacks, and 18 total hits on the quarterback in 17 games. In 2022, Burns followed up with another Pro Bowl performance, generating 63 tackles, 12.5 sacks, and 22 hits on the quarterback. He also forced a fumble. After Burns played his final season with the Panthers in 2023, the veteran was traded to the Giants. Once he ended up in New York, Burns earned a five-year extension, which was worth $141 million. The Giants were happy with the investment after year one of the deal. He also had 18 hits on the quarterback, 8.5 sacks, two forced fumbles, and eight pass deflections. Offensive lines had their hands full with Burns, Dexter Lawrence, and Kayvon Thibodeaux last season. It certainly doesn't get any easier with a guy like Abdul Carter in the situation. The former Penn State defensive lineman enters the NFL as one of the most intriguing prospects. That might take some of the attention off Burns, leaving the talented veteran to take advantage of double-teams happening elsewhere.
