Malaysia to establish ASEAN's first women's economic empowerment centre in KL
KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia is set to establish ASEAN's first Women's Economic Empowerment Centre in Kuala Lumpur, to ensure the bloc's potential and opportunities are accessible to all, including micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), youth and women.
This aligns with the country's ASEAN 2025 Chairmanship theme, 'Inclusivity and Sustainability,' Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry, Datuk Seri Tengku Zafrul Aziz, said today.
'In short, as ASEAN's 2025 Chair, we are placing inclusive growth at the heart of Southeast Asia's policies,' he said at the ASEAN Women Economic Summit 2025 (AWES), held in conjunction with the ASEAN Summit here.
Besides AWES, ASEAN supports women and youth entrepreneurs across the region through platforms such as the ASEAN Women Entrepreneurs Network (AWEN), the ASEAN Young Entrepreneurs Council (AYEC), the Social Enterprises Development Programme (ASEAN SEDP) and the ASEAN Youth Organisation (AYO).
'Of course, the challenges facing the bloc's individual countries are unique, but we must strive to ensure region-wide solutions, even though this will take time,' he said, adding that this is where AWES can play a stronger role.
He said Malaysia, as Chair of ASEAN, looks forward to the outcome of AWES.
Tengku Zafrul said among the feedback awaited are quick wins to create gender-inclusive ASEAN-wide standards and policies, as well as improved access to finance.
'If we were to create a US$1 billion (US$1 = RM4.24) fund for ASEAN, how should it be governed to ensure broad-based impact, transparency and access for women-led businesses? And how do we digitally upskill, say, one million women across our region by 2027?
'A lot of work lies ahead. One Summit alone won't solve all the challenges facing women. But AWES contributes to a worthy cause that has been championed for decades,' he added.

Putin has pitched himself as a mediator between Iran and Israel, an idea rejected by US President Donald Trump last week. Araghchi told Putin that Russia has been a 'partner and companion' to Tehran and hailed ties between Tehran and Moscow as 'very close and longstanding'. 'Iran is exercising legitimate defence against these aggressions,' he added. Since Israel launched its wave of strikes on June 13, triggering Iran to respond with missiles and drones, Russia has not publicly offered military help to Tehran. Putin and other officials have also downplayed Moscow's obligations under a sweeping strategic partnership agreement signed with Tehran just months ago, highlighting that it is not a mutual defence pact. Russia was 'making efforts to help the Iranian people,' Putin said in the meeting, without elaborating. Asked what specific support Russia might offer, Peskov told reporters that it 'depends on what Iran needs. We have offered our mediation services'. Peskov also said the US strikes on Iran would not affect bilateral relations between Moscow and Washington, saying they were 'different issues'. Putin said last week that Iran had not requested any support from Russia.

"I would say that if you feel the need for work-life balance, maybe you're not in the right work." Her daily routine starts at 5:30 a.m. with two to three high-intensity workouts at a training bootcamp, followed by work from 9 a.m. until midnight. "Some days, I am doing more marketing pushes. PM Anwar, President Lee Agree To Strengthen Malaysia-S. Korea Bilateral Ties
GENERAL KUALA LUMPUR, June 23 (Bernama) -- Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and South Korean President Lee Jae Myung have agreed to strengthen bilateral ties between Malaysia and South Korea. Anwar said the relationship between the two nations, which was elevated to a strategic partnership during his visit to Seoul in November last year, will continue to be comprehensively advanced across several areas, including peace and security, defence, economy, education and tourism, as well as regional and global cooperation. 'South Korea is Malaysia's eighth-largest trading partner, with trade exceeding US$20 billion (US$1 = RM4.29) for three consecutive years. I expressed Malaysia's commitment to concluding the Malaysia-Korea Free Trade Agreement (MKFTA) negotiations this year,' he said in a post on the X platform today. Anwar, who contacted Lee this morning, also took the opportunity to congratulate him and the Democratic Party on their victory in the recent presidential election.
