Frank Roche in Tullamore:
OFFALY 3-15
ANTRIM 1-16
Salvation for the Offaly hurlers - but where to next for Antrim and their manager, Davy Fitzgerald?
Not for the first time this summer, the beleaguered Saffrons paid a heavy price for their indiscipline as they lost to a jittery Offaly and paid the ultimate price – demotion to the Joe McDonagh Cup.
And yet, in the circumstances, the hosts made life incredibly difficult for themselves as they retained their Leinster senior status and demoted Antrim in the process.
They had all the elements, literally and metaphorically, in their favour when they led by 2-9 to 0-11 at half-time.
They had the backing of a second half gale and an extra man, an advantage they had held from the seventh minute after Antrim defender Niall O'Connor was sent off.
Referee Michael Kennedy flashed a straight red after consulting with his umpires, GAA+ replays indicating a stamp on Offaly danger man Charlie Mitchell.
That four-point interval lead had stretched to six by the 44th minute, but Offaly then endured a horrendous 20-minute scoring famine. For a while, it appeared as they were playing with treacle in their boots and – even against the wind – 14-man Antrim slowly started to believe, cutting the lead to a goal shortly beyond the hour.
Mitchell, who had a strong shout for Man of the Match, gave home fans some belated reason to cheer with a superb point from the stand side touchline.
But then, in the next play, Antrim went on the offensive and after a surreal bout of pinball in the Offaly goalmouth, James McNaughton buried to the net for a 65th minute goal that left just a point in it.
Offaly must have been fearing the worst when Brian Duignan's goal chance was blocked by Stephen Rooney. But then sub Eoghan Cahill's clever pass from the left touchline located Killian Sampson in space, and he nailed the most important goal of Offaly's season.
A Duignan free completed the scoring, but Offaly can be thankful that they didn't suffer the consequences of a desperately poor second half that yielded just 1-6.
Much earlier, they had looked firmly in the box seat after Mitchell released Duignan for a smartly finished goal inside 90 seconds; and then when Dan Ravenhill drilled home a low 14th minute penalty awarded for a foul by Conor Boyd on Mitchell.

Cork defeat Clare by nine parts after a strong second half performance

Glen Dimplex All-Ireland senior camogie championship: Cork 0-21 Clare 1-9 Cork's winning streak in the Glen Dimplex All-Ireland senior camogie championship continued in SuperValu Páirc Uí Chaoimh on Saturday. A nine-point winning margin was achieved after a strong second-half performance. The victory for Ger Manley's outfit means they head into the final round of fixtures next Saturday against winless Wexford top of Group 1 and in the perfect position to take a semi-final spot. Indication of their squad depth was also highlighted by the unavailability of Hannah Looney and Aoife Healy due to football commitments. However, the hosts didn't get matters entirely their own way having led by three points at the break. Bear in mind too when these teams met in the Munster championship in April Clare lost 2-22 to 0-10. It was evident from the outset the Banner women were up for the challenge and John Carmody's youthful side were competitive. Factor in also, two one-on-one goal opportunities in second-half stoppage time from Róisín Begley and Áine O'Loughlin that were bravely saved by Cork 'keeper Amy Lee. But for now, the visitors will travel home having secured a championship knockout place in Croke Park and that has to be the first box ticked. Their game against Tipperary next weekend will determine whether they finish second or third. They got a tonic start with a green flag inside the opening minute from Jennifer Daly who soloed through from out the field and applied the finishing touches after a mere 45 seconds. The only goal of the day was immediately followed by a Caoimhe Cahill point from play and they were up-and-running. Orlaith Cahalane settled Cork with a fifth minute white flag and they would shoot the next three unanswered points from play. A goal opportunity too came their way but couldn't be taken advantage of. Impressive wing-forward Jennifer Daly raced through for Clare's second point to leave just one between the sides approaching the quarter hour mark, 1-2 to 0-4. Industrious centre-forward Saoirse McCarthy (free) Emma Murphy and Kate Wall stretched the lead. Róisín Begley won a free close to the posts for Aisling Cooney to convert - it remained a single point match with 10 minutes to go to the interval. Sorcha McCartan and Murphy points sent Cork to the dressing-room 0-9 to 1-3 ahead. The defending All-Ireland champions were a different proposition in the second half and reeled off a trio of points from Murphy, McCartan and Amy O'Connor (free) to extend their advantage. Seven-in-a-row points while limiting Clare to a pair of converted frees arrived in a productive 20-minute spell - a Clare team that had emptied the tank in the opening half. Emerging with 10 different scorers, Cork pulled 0-20 to 1-5 clear by the 50th minute despite striking 13 wides to Clare's three overall. Clare did outhit them four-one in the final 10 minutes plus three minutes of stoppage. And had those two late goals been converted the deficit would have been less again. Scorers for Cork: S McCarthy (0-5, 0-1 free), E Murphy and O Cahalane (0-3 each), K Wall, A O'Connor (frees) and S McCartan (0-2 each), L Hayes, A Thompson, K Mackey and C Finn (0-1 each). Scorers for Clare: J Daly (1-1), A Cooney (0-3 frees), Z A Spillane (45s) and C Cahill (0-2) each, N Mulqueen (0-1). CORK: A Lee; M Cahalane (Capt), L Coppinger, P Mackey; R Harty, L Treacy, L Hayes; K Wall, A Thompson; E Murphy, S McCarty, S McCartan; C Finn, K Mackey, O Cahalane. Subs: A O'Connor for C Finn, A O'Neill for R Harty (both half-time), C O'Sullivan for L Coppinger (43). CLARE: D Murphy; S Daly, C Hehir, S O'Keeffe; L Daly, A Walsh, C Queally; N Mulqueen, C Carmody; C Cahill, G Carmody, J Daly; R Begley, A Cooney, A Anderson. Subs: Z Y Spillane for A Anderson (25), D Griffin for C Queally (40), Á O'Loughlin (Capt) for A Cooney (46), C Grogan for G Carmody (50), E Casey for C Carmody (53). Referee: L Dempsey ( Kilkenny).

Dublin v Limerick LIVE coverage of All-Ireland SHC quarter-final from Croke Park

Hello and welcome to our live coverage of Dublin v Limerick in the All-Ireland senior hurling championship quarter-final at Croke Park, which is the opening game of a double-header at GAA HQ - with the SFC preliminary quarter-final between Dublin and Cork to follow. Niall O'Ceallachain's Dubs go into this last eight tie on the back of a victory - last Saturday's preliminary quarter-final demolition of Kildare - but that will count for very little going into the battle with the country's best team of the last eight years. Limerick will be out for a statement performance on the back of the heartbreaking loss on penalties to Cork in the Munster final, after an impressive campaign in the provincial championship. Dublin, on the other hand, looked the part in their win over Wexford in Leinster, and with their second half comeback against Kilkenny in Leinster, but they looked well off the pace in the first half against the Cats and then against Galway, a defeat that cost them a place in the provincial final. As expected, they made short shrift of the Lilywhites last weekend, who were barely over their Joe McDonagh Cup celebrations, and O'Ceallachain will know that his side will have to go up several levels in terms of performance to live with Limerick. Treaty boss John Kiely will look for the right reaction from his players after their Munster disappointment but if Dublin can stay with Limerick, they could sew some seeds of doubt heading down the stretch. Throw in is at 4pm at Croker. There may be changes before the throw-in but here are the teams as announced late in the have two changes from the Kildare game, with Andy Dunphy in for Paddy Dunleavy at wing-back and Conor Burke return for full-forward targetman John Hetherton; Limerick are unchanged. LIMERICK: Nickie Quaid; Sean Finn, Dan Morrissey, Mike Casey; Diarmaid Byrnes, Kyle Hayes, Barry Nash; Adam English, William O'Donoghue; Gearoid Hegarty, Cian Lynch, Tom Morrissey; Aaron Gillane, Aidan O'Connor, David Reidy. Subs: Shane Dowling, Peter Casey, Colin Coughlan, Seamus Flanagan, Declan Hannon, Barry Murphy, Fergal O'Connor, Donnacha O Dalaigh, Darragh O'Donovan, Paddy O'Donovan, Cathal O'Neill. DUBLIN: Sean Brennan; John Bellew, Paddy Smyth, Conor McHugh; Paddy Doyle, Chris Crummey, Andrew Dunphy; Conor Burke, Brian Hayes; Rian McBride, Fergal Whitely, Cian O'Sullivan; Sean Currie, Ronan Hayes, Diarmaid O Dulaing.
