Chaos as weapon-wielding intruders crash school formal after-party in Adelaide
A school formal after-party has descended into chaos after gatecrashers stormed the party armed with machetes in Adelaide's northeast, causing thousands of dollars in damage.
Shocking CCTV footage showed the intruders storming the formal after-party about 10pm on Friday in Hillcrest.
Party host Jaycon Coller said two cars pulled up outside the property, with several people piling out and demanding to come inside.
The intruders then kicked the door in and began searching for someone at the home, leaving chaos and destruction in their wake.
Footage showed one of the intruders carrying a baseball bat as he entered the property, with another uninvited person carrying a machete.
Mr Coller told 9News that he stipulated there would be 'no fighting' when organising the party, but the message went unheard.
'They've forced their way in by kicking the front door open … coming in with baseball bats and machetes, swinging it at everyone and yelling out a particular name,' he said, adding the intruders caused thousands of dollars in damage.
CCTV footage showed a sea of youths rushing out of the property a short time later, and while people a white car tried to flee, a person smashed the car window with a baseball bat.
A fight later broke out on the streets, with footage of a girl being dragged by her hair and 'slammed to the floor' uploaded onto social media.
Neighbour Janine Donato described the disturbance as 'crazy' and a 'racket', with a wave of high school students fleeing the house.
'This is normally a quiet area,' she said.
South Australia Police told NewsWire that officers were called to the property after reports of a disturbance.
Mr Coller told police that his house had been broken into and he was 'assaulted and had clothing stolen and personal items stolen'.
'Police believe the persons involved are known to each other,' the spokesman said.

Salim Mehajer set to be released from jail after five years behind bars
Disgraced former politician Salim Mehajer is set to be released from prison after he was on Monday granted parole, with strict conditions including he not associate with outlaw bikies. Mehajer will be released next month after the State Parole Authority on Tuesday handed down a decision to grant him parole on a long list of conditions. In a hearing before the Authority earlier this month, the Commissioner of Corrective Services opposed his release, citing a risk of reoffending, his lack of attitudinal change and Mehajer's continued denial of some of his crimes. This is despite a Community Corrections prerelease report recommending that Mehajer be released on conditional parole when he becomes eligible for release on July 18. The parole board took into account that he had completed all possible programs in prison, determining his rehabilitation was better served in the community where he will be under the watch of a psychologist and community corrections officers. Upon his release, he will have to be of good behaviour, report to a Community Corrections officer, participate in any domestic violence programs where directed, have ongoing treatment from a private psychologist and undergo drug and alcohol testing. He is also banned from contacting his victim and entering The Central Coast. As well, he must not have any communication with Outlaw Motorcycle Gang members or associates. Mehajer is serving a seven-year and nine-month prison term for domestic violence offences against a former partner, as well as fraud for forging his lawyer's signature. The former property developer and Auburn deputy mayor has been in prison since November 2020 when he was jailed for lying to a court and has served back-to-back sentences for multiple offences. Mehajer was jailed in November 2020 after he was found guilty of two counts of perverting the course of justice and one count of making a false statement under oath. The case centred on his lies in affidavits and under cross-examination that he used to secure relaxed bail conditions. In 2023, Mehajer was again found guilty in separate trials for unrelated fraud and domestic violence matters. Mehajer was sentenced to a maximum of seven years and nine months in jail for both sets of offences. He was found guilty by a jury of multiple counts of assault, one count of intimidation and one count of suffocation relating to his abuse of an ex-partner. He was found guilty of assaulting the woman by punching her in the head during an argument in his car, squeezing her hand and crushing her phone that she was holding, suffocating her by putting his hand over her nose and mouth until she passed out as well as threatening to kill the woman's mother. The following month, he was found guilty by a jury of two counts each of making a false document and using a false document. He was found to have created false statutory declarations and affidavits by forging the signatures of his solicitor, Zali Burrows, and sister. Last year, Mehajer pleaded guilty to his role in a bizarre staged car crash in an attempt to duck a court appearance. He pleaded guilty to 22 charges, including perverting the course of justice, making a false representation resulting in a police investigation, making a false call for an ambulance and negligent driving. He admitted to staging the car accident in Sydney's west in October 2017, with the court hearing that Mehajer orchestrated the incident in a bid to delay his court appearance for an unrelated criminal matter for assaulting a taxi driver, to which he later pleaded guilty. He was sentenced to a maximum of two years for the crash offences, with a non-parole period of 16 months. Mehajer will be released in July.

Socialite Vanessa Jacobs Fennell's shock call after assaulting police officer
A Sydney socialite told police words to the effect of 'well at least I didn't kill anyone' after crashing her Range Rover, refusing a breath test and then assaulting a police officer. Vanessa Jacobs Fennell, 54, refused a breath test and then crashed her luxe Range Rover into a parked Tesla before assaulting a police officer in Bellevue Hill in Sydney's east on March 21. She was charged with refusing to submit to breath analysis, assault police officer in the execution of duty, not give particulars to owner of damaged property, and negligent driving. Fennell – who was previously short-listed to appear on the second season of controversial reality show Real Housewives of Sydney in 2023 – pleaded guilty last month to all four charges, but is seeking to have the matters dealt with under mental health provisions of the law. She did not appear in Waverley Local Court on Monday where her matter was briefly mentioned. Her lawyer Helen Christinson asked the court for a further date for a report to be prepared. Court documents seen by NewsWire revealed bystanders called police shortly after Fennell was stopped by a good Samaritan on a road in Bellevue Hill who informed her that her car was 'severely damaged' and had two flat tyres. When police arrived, Fennell was 'uncooperative', and initially denied being the driver of the damaged Range Rover. While being arrested, the socialite became 'highly agitated', before slapping the police officer and resisting arrest, the documents state. After being informed she had assaulted a police officer, she laughed and showed 'no remorse for her actions', police said in the documents. While police were speaking with her the socialite then said words to the effect of: 'well at least I didn't kill anyone', court documents said. The assault was captured on police body cam footage. In a police interview, Fennell admitted to driving while under the influence of alcohol. The stay at home mum also failed to give her required particulars 'within the required time' to the driver of the other car. The mother of two was previously married to private equity investor Tom Fennell, with reports the couple called it quits about five years ago. She's also regularly been snapped at charity luncheons and events across the Harbour City. She will return to Waverley Local Court again on August 12. Her bail is to continue.
