WB bloggers in friend list of ‘spy' Jyoti under agencies lens

New Delhi: West Bengal's travel bloggers -- whose names surfaced in the friend list of Jyoti Malhotra, a Haryana-based YouTuber arrested on espionage charges -- were now under the scanner of the intelligence agency.
Sources said West Bengal-based travel bloggers, who were spotted accompanying Malhotra in different parts of the country in pictures and videos on her social media accounts, were under scrutiny.
What has kept the sleuths quite worried is that during her visit to Kolkata and the outskirts in February this year, before going to Pakistan in March, Malhotra made video shoots not just at some popular food joints in the city and outskirts, but also at some busy junctions which remain heavily-crowded almost round the clock.
Some of these busy junctions were Howrah and Sealdah Stations in Kolkata, the iconic Kali Temple at Dakshineswar in North 24 Parganas, and the roads adjacent to the Indian Army bases and West Bengal Police Academy at Barrackpore, also in North 24 Parganas. At Barrackpore, she also did a video shoot at a popular Biriyani joint there. The sources added that intelligence sleuths have collected this information from Malhotra's social media accounts and a couple of travel bloggers in West Bengal, whom she met during her Kolkata visit in February this year.
Also under scanner is another travel blogger from West Bengal, whose marriage function at Liluah in Howrah district was attended by Malhotra in February.
Now, the sources added, the investigating officials are wondering whether the videos and pictures available on her social media accounts are the entire lot she had in her collection, or there is more such stuff that she might have handed over to the Pakistan spy agencies. Malhotra visited Kolkata in February this year. After going back from the city, she visited Pakistan in March. There, too, she made YouTube blogs at various popular places, as was evident in her social media accounts.

ED raids Himachal Assistant Drug Controller, linked persons in PMLA probe

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Sunday (June 22, 2025) conducted searches against a Himachal Pradesh-based Assistant Drug Controller (ADC), his family members and some others as part of a money laundering investigation linked to charges of bribery and 'political patronage', official sources said. The action has been taken against Nishant Sareen, currently posted as ADC Dharamshala, his father-in-law Ramesh Kumar Gupta and an alleged associate Komal Khanna apart from some others, they said. Five residential and commercial premises in Himachal Pradesh, Haryana and Punjab were searched. The probe relates to 'misuse' of official position by the officer when he was earlier posted as ADC in Baddi (Solan district) as well as during his current tenure, ED sources said. The Central agency, according to the sources, is also investigating the alleged generation of proceeds of crime in this case apart from charges of 'political patronage and complaints of extortion and bribe' against Mr. Sareen. The officer or his legal representatives could not be contacted immediately for a comment on the charges made by the ED. The Office of the Drug Controller is part of the Directorate of Health Safety and Regulation of the H.P. Government. The money laundering case filed under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) stems from an August, 2019 FIR registered by the State Vigilance and Anti-corruption Bureau (SV&ACB) of Himachal Pradesh Police against Sareen while he was posted as ADC in Baddi. The SV&ACB arrested him in September, 2019 and later charge-sheeted him along with Mr. Khanna. Mr. Sareen was released on bail in October that year and was posted as ADC, Dharamshala in 2024, the sources said. Mr. Sareen, during the Himachal Police investigation, faced charges of receiving bribe from pharmaceutical companies based in Baddi, a pharma hub in the State.

Hyderabad firm under police lens for Rs 500 crore investment scam

HYDERABAD: Cyberabad police have registered a case against AV Infracon, a Madhapur-based private company, for allegedly duping hundreds of people by promising high returns on investments. While the victims claim the scam could be worth around Rs 500 crore, the complaint states that the cheated amount is Rs 2.5 crore so far. The complaint was initially lodged at the Madhapur police station five months ago. The accused have been absconding since. Recently, the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) took over the case, and statements from several victims were recorded on Saturday. According to one of the victims, the company launched various investment schemes, including buyback and freelance offers, promising 50% returns within a year. 'Many people invested Rs 10 lakh, Rs 15 lakh, and some even invested Rs 1 crore,' the victim said. The company initially returned money to a few investors, which encouraged others to invest. 'Once a large number of people had put in money, they stopped repayments,' he added. In some cases, the company registered plots of land under the buyback scheme, but the land value was reportedly only 20% of the invested amount. 'We urge the Cyberabad Commissioner of Police to take strict action and ensure justice,' the victim said.

NIA arrests 2 in Pahalgam for harbouring terrorists who attacked tourists

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrested two men in Jammu and Kashmir for harbouring the terrorists who had carried out the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack. In a statement, the NIA said the two men are locals of Pahalgam. They have been identified as Parvaiz Ahmad Jothar from Batkote and Bashir Ahmad Jothar of Hill Park. "They have disclosed the identities of the three armed terrorists involved in the attack, and have also confirmed that they were Pakistani nationals affiliated to the proscribed terrorist outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT)," probe agency said. According to the NIA, Parvaiz and Bashir had knowingly harboured the three armed terrorists at a seasonal dhok (hut) at Hill Park before the attack. The two men had provided food, shelter and logistical support to the terrorists, the agency said. The duo has been arrested under Section 19 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967. Further investigations are underway. On April 22, a group of terrorists ambushed tourists holidaying in the scenic meadows of Pahalgam in Jammu and Kashmir, killing 26 people. The Resistance Front, a proxy of Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba, claimed responsibility for the attack. The incident led to a major diplomatic escalation between India and Pakistan, with both sides suspending visa services and downgrading diplomatic presence in each other's capitals. India also suspended the 1960 Indus Waters Treaty, which governs water-sharing between the two nations. Pakistan, on the other hand, announced the suspension of all bilateral treaties with India, including the 1972 Simla Agreement, which governs the ceasefire line in Kashmir. On May 7, India launched precision air strikes targeting nine terror launchpad in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, including the Jaish-e-Mohammad stronghold of Bahawalpur and Lashkar-e-Taiba's base Muridke. Codenamed Operation Sindoor, the strikes resulted in killing of at least 100 terrorists, the government said.
