MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Wisk Aero, a leading Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) company and developer of the first all-electric, self-flying air taxi in the U.S., today announced that SkyGrid, an AAM Third-Party Service Provider (TSP), will become a subsidiary of Wisk. Through their strategic alignment, Wisk and SkyGrid will work together to address the critical challenges necessary for expanding safe, efficient, and autonomous flight and collaborate on their shared goal of bringing Wisk's Generation 6 aircraft to market.

Wisk, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Boeing, is currently progressing through Type Certification with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for its Generation 6 autonomous aircraft. SkyGrid will support Wisk's future operations with tailored digital solutions that enhance real-time situational awareness, seamless airspace integration, and advanced decision-making. These capabilities not only enable safe operations but are essential for scaling autonomous aviation as demand continues to grow.

SkyGrid, with its aircraft-agnostic platform, will continue to support a targeted and strategic external customer base across airspace integration, autonomous aviation, and Air Traffic Management (ATM) automation. By leveraging its advanced technology and expertise, SkyGrid enables scalable, interoperable solutions that serve a wide range of vehicle types and mission profiles.

Archer Aviation has captivated investors and businesses with its Midnight aircraft, an electric air taxi with loads of potential. Demand has been robust, with Archer's order book totaling $6 billion thus far. The company is still in the early stages of producing the aircraft. 10 stocks we like better than Archer Aviation › One of the hottest growth stocks of late is Archer Aviation (NYSE: ACHR), which has the potential to revolutionize travel with its electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft. People taking its Midnight aircraft could conceivably fly over gridlock rather than being stuck in bumper-to-bumper traffic. There are many possible uses for the piloted electric air taxi, which is quieter than a helicopter and has zero operating emissions. Given all the potential for the stock, can this be a possible 40-bagger investment -- one that turns a $25,000 into $1 million in the future? One thing investors need to be aware of is that while there are significant opportunities for Archer, it still has to obtain approval for its Midnight aircraft, and for it to produce it at scale. It has obtained multiple approvals from the Federal Aviation Administration thus far, and the hope is that it may not be too long until the aircraft is cleared for use in the U.S. But even if that happens, the company still needs to ramp up production. The Midnight aircraft can accommodate four passengers, so the company will need to develop a considerable fleet before it can truly become a big player in the air taxi industry. Its goal is to be producing 650 aircraft per year by the end of the decade. This year, it's aiming to get to just two per month. Since it's so early in its development, Archer isn't generating any revenue thus far, and its losses have totaled $514 million over the past four quarters. The good news is the business is already seeing strong demand, with a backlog of around $6 billion thus far, including United Airlines, which has ordered 200 of Archer's eVTOL aircraft already, plus an option for 100 more. If Archer proves to be a 40x investment, its valuation would need to reach more than $220 billion in the future, given its current market cap of around $5.6 billion. If air taxis truly revolutionize travel and demand for Archer's aircraft takes off, that can be a possibility in the very long run. But that's a scenario that's also riddled with multiple ifs. The necessary infrastructure needs to be built, and air spaces would become more crowded, which could result in greater legislation and red tape along the way. And with the company still in the early stages of producing its aircraft, it's also difficult to know what kind of margins it will make on them and how profitable the business may or may not be. A lot of things would need to go right for the business for it to be worth well over $200 billion. Forecasting the future for an industry that's still in its infancy is not easy. And while there's certainly potential for Archer's valuation to grow significantly, investors shouldn't assume that the stock is destined for greatness and that it can generate 40x returns, even over the very long term. Even though investing in Archer may not be a surefire path to becoming a millionaire, it may still be a growth stock worth adding to your portfolio. If you're comfortable with the risk and uncertainty that comes with this business, it could make for a good buy-and-hold investment. However, given the risk involved, I wouldn't suggest investing more than 5% of your portfolio into the stock. By allocating just a modest amount of money into Archer, you can limit your losses while still giving yourself the possibility to benefit from its growth in the long run. Archer is currently the 11th-largest position across Ark Invest's portfolio, which is managed by popular tech investor Cathie Wood. On June 13, shares of Archer plummeted by 14%. Despite such a precipitous drop, Wood flew in and scooped up 3,433,807 shares across her exchange-traded funds (ETF). Does Wood know something Wall Street doesn't about Archer? Let's dig in and explore what may have caused Archer shares to drop in the first place. From there, investors may have a better idea of what influenced Wood to buy the dip in Archer stock recently. As the graph below illustrates, Archer stock began selling off right out of the gate following the opening bell on June 13. But why? Well, after taking a look at the company's most recent filings with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), I think I have the answer. In its recent 8-K filing, Archer disclosed that it entered into a securities purchase agreement and issued 85 million shares at a fixed price of $10. Essentially, Archer sold stock at a fixed price in an effort to raise capital. While such a move is a quick way for companies to raise cash, issuing stock is also dilutive to shareholders -- hence, the share price dropped. On the surface, it might seem that Wood simply pounced on Archer's depressed price action. However, after exploring further notes in the company's filings, I think there might be more to the picture. Archer stated that it will be using the proceeds of the stock sale for "the development of necessary commercial capabilities, including infrastructure, to support our Launch Edition program; our planned U.S. commercial launch, including our new strategic partnership as the official air taxi provider for the 2028 Olympics in LA; and the development of an AI-based aviation software platform, and the remainder for general corporate purposes." There is a lot to unpack there. First, the company's mention of an artificial intelligence (AI) aviation software platform is a reference to Archer's partnership with Palantir. This is important because it underscores Archer's commitment to transform the air mobility market -- from developing new vehicle types to next-generation aviation software platforms. In addition, raising cash now could suggest that Archer is closer to a commercial launch than some investors may realize. Taking this a step further, recent administrative actions from the president could be a tailwind for Archer as it seeks FAA approval and makes good on its position to be a transportation provider during the 2028 Olympics. Given Wood has been a longtime Archer bull, I think the savvy investor is well aware of these various initiatives and decided to double down on Ark's position during the recent sell-off. One on hand, I'm encouraged that the recent sell-off in Archer stock wasn't due to a poor earnings report or some sort of unexpected operational setback at the company. Rather, the capital raise was a planned event and shares slid over the dilution. At the same time, though, I still see Archer as a speculative stock to own right now. I find the company's various projects intriguing, to say the least. But until Archer is manufacturing aircraft at scale and generating consistent revenue and profits across its various applications, I'm hard-pressed to own the stock myself.
