A man named Jaythan Gilder, 32, stole diamond earrings worth $770,000 from a Tiffany & Co. store and then tried to escape by swallowing the gems before police could arrest him. He stole the diamond earrings from a store in The Mall at Millenia in Orlando. Gilder pretended to be a representative for an NBA player to gain access to the diamonds, as per reports. After being shown the jewelry in a private room, he grabbed two sets of earrings worth $609,500 plus $160,000 and ran away. Hours later, Florida Highway Patrol pulled over Gilder on Interstate 10 near Chipley in a rented Mitsubishi Outlander, as stated in the report by The Smoking Gun.While arresting him, officers saw Gilder moving something in his mouth and refusing to spit it out. Cops warned him he'd get tased if he didn't open his mouth. He said through clenched teeth, 'I don't have to.' At first, police thought he was swallowing drugs. He claimed the white stuff on his lip was Abreva. A test showed no drugs, according to the reports.Inside his car, cops only found price tags and earring cards from Tiffany's, no diamonds. Cops guessed he had actually swallowed the diamonds and sent him to the hospital. Gilder refused an X-ray and didn't want treatment, as per the report by The Smoking Gun.At jail, a body scan showed foreign objects in his stomach. He asked, 'Am I going to be charged with what's in my stomach?' He refused laxatives and told jail staff he was Muslim observing Ramadan, so he only ate after sundown. Police waited 2 weeks for him to pass the diamonds. On March 10, he passed two earrings, but they weren't the Tiffany ones, police are still checking where those came from. Later that same day, he passed three Tiffany earrings, and the last one came out on March 12. Tiffany's Master Jeweler cleaned and confirmed the diamonds before giving them back to the store's security team, according to the report by The Smoking Gun.In 2022, Gilder swallowed earrings again after robbing a jewelry store in Colorado Springs. That time, the store owner shot him in the back during the escape. At the hospital, while under guard, he swallowed the earrings so police couldn't take them. Cops searched his poop but never found them, and scans showed nothing either, as per the report The Smoking Gun.Gilder is now locked up without bail in Florida, facing robbery and grand theft charges. He is also wanted in Colorado for felony charges from the 2022 robbery. His lawyer tried to get him temporary release to attend his mom's funeral, but a Florida judge said no.The lawyer said he has PTSD and depression and needed to grieve. Prosecutors refused, calling him a habitual offender and an escape risk. Back in 2022, he had slipped handcuffs in a hospital and tried to escape through the ceiling, causing damage. His lawyer also claimed he had a 'limited criminal history,' but cops say his record is 20 years long, covering many states, as per the report by The Smoking Gun.Jaythan Gilder, a convicted jewel thief, swallowed the diamonds to hide them from police. The stolen Tiffany & Co. diamonds were worth about $770,000.

Kovai car blast: Jamaath says NIA framing Muslims

COIMBATORE: The Coimbatore District Federation of All Jamaaths, Islamic organisations and political parties has condemned the recent arrests of two Muslim youths in connection with the 2022 Coimbatore car blast case, which is currently being probed by the National Investigation Agency (NIA). The federation alleged that the NIA has been framing false charges against innocent Muslim youths. In the car blast case, the NIA arrested four suspects, including two from Coimbatore, on Wednesday. These arrests were made in relation to recruitment efforts for the banned terrorist organisation, Islamic State (IS), bringing the total number of arrests in the case across the state to eight. The suspects arrested are believed to have been radicalised by Jameel Basha, the founder of Madras Arabic College, who, along with his associates, is accused of recruiting youth and subtly promoting Salafi-Jihadi ideology under the guise of teaching Arabic in the state. The arrests followed an investigation into the car explosion that occurred on October 23, 2022, near Sangameswarar Temple at Kottaimedu in Coimbatore city. Jameesha Mubin, who died in the blast, has been identified as an IS sympathiser by the NIA. The federation called for an urgent meeting on Thursday wherein it passed a resolution condemning the NIA for what they claim are false cases against innocent Muslim youths and unjust arrests related to the alleged IS radicalisation case. M S Sabeer Ali, a coordinator of the federation, told TNIE that one of the two people arrested in Coimbatore on Wednesday was innocent and was actually maintaining an Arabic college (Madrasa). 'He was previously investigated by the NIA as a witness and was pressurised to be a witness in favor of the agency. When he refused, he was framed in the case and arrested. The NIA is framing charges against innocent Madrasa students to prevent the bail proceedings of earlier suspects arrested in this case which is condemnable,' he said. The federation in the meeting also decided to provide legal support to those who were allegedly wrongfully arrested and to clarify the truth surrounding these arrests to the public.

Court calls for former RPF constable's medical report

Jun 21, 2025 08:24 AM IST Mumbai: A sessions court has called for the medical report of Chetan Singh Chaudhary, a former Railway Protection Force (RPF) constable accused of shooting dead four passengers on board the Jaipur-Mumbai Superfast Express on the night of July 31, 2023. Chetan Singh Chaudhary (PTI) While one of those dead was Chaudhary's senior, with whom he had an argument prior to the shootings, the others were all identified as Muslim by their beards and then shot. Chaudhary's plea for bail citing 'temporary insanity' was rejected in December 2023. The sessions court had called for Chaudhary's medical report earlier too, on May 23. But it was never submitted as the judge hearing the case got transferred and the court was without a judge. Friday saw the resumption of court proceedings in the trial after a gap of almost a month. Chaudhary's trial commenced last November, when he was lodged in Akola Central Jail and attended court proceedings via video conferencing. In February this year, finding his behavior odd, the Akola jail authorities took him to Akola Central Hospital, where doctors advised that he be taken to Thane Mental Hospital for a proper examination. The 34-year-old former constable has been in Thane Mental Hospital since February 20. On March 12, the court ordered a stop to the trial since Chaudhary could not be present even through video conferencing. Four witnesses, including two RPF constables on duty with him that night, have so far testified. With a new judge having taken over, the court on Friday ordered that Choudhary's medical report be presented in court by the next date, July 3.
