Viola Davis to star in thriller Ally Clark

Washington DC [US], June 6 (ANI): Actress and film producer Viola Davis, known for 'Doubt', 'The Help', 'How to Get Away with Murder', 'Widows', and others, is all set to star in the conspiracy thriller titled 'Ally Clark'.
After starring in Amazon MGM Studios' action movie 'G20', Viola Davis is again teaming up with the streamer. 'G20' also features Anthony Anderson, Marsai Martin, Ramon Rodriguez, Douglas Hodge, Elizabeth Marvel, Sabrina Impacciatore, Clark Gregg, and Antony Starr.
Phillip Noyce, a veteran of the thriller genre, will direct the feature that Irwin Winkler, the veteran producer behind Rocky, Goodfellas and The Alto Knights, will produce, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Winkler Films' Charlies Winker, David Winkler, and Jose Ruisanchez are also producing. Davis is also on the producing team, along with Julius Tennon, her husband and partner at the duo's JuVee Productions, as per the outlet.
The script, written by Ruisanchez and Irwin Winkler, revolves around an investigator named Ally Clark, played by Davis. According to the studio, she goes on a dangerous investigation into an international conglomerate following the strange murder of a close friend. The case will take her from the marble halls of Washington, D.C., to the steamy bayous of Louisiana and the snowy peaks of Alaska.
The project is in the development stages. JuVee Productions' Melanie Clark will executive produce, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Meanwhile, Davis won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for reprising her role in the 2016 film adaptation of Fences. She was Oscar-nominated for playing a complex mother in Doubt (2008), a 1960s housemaid in The Help (2011) and Ma Rainey in Ma Rainey's Black Bottom (2020). On TV, she became the first black actress to win the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for her role as lawyer Annalise Keating in the ABC legal drama series How to Get Away with Murder (2014-2020). In February 2023, she was awarded the Grammy Award for Best Audio Book, Narration and Storytelling Recording for the narration of her 2022 autobiography Finding Me, making her the 18th person to achieve EGOT status. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis attended the ceremony, where he talked about how radio gave a voice to our expression and shaped our cultural heritage. 'Expressing through an audio-visual mode is easy because it is visible. The best thing about a radio is that everything is expressed, even when no one is visible... The new technology is letting us experience 3D, 4D and 17D, but when there was only 1D, only music, at that time, radio gave a voice to our expression and shaped our cultural heritage,' CM Fadnavis said. Interestingly, at the event, he tried his hand at singing with legendary Asha Bhosle. He sang a few lines of Asha Bhosle's iconic song 'Abhi Na Jao Chhod Kar'. Elated about the the launch of Maharashtra Asha Radio Gaurav Awards, Asha Bhosle said, 'Today is the day of music. An award named after me has been issued today and it will be given to those who perform well in the field of radio...' Jack Betts , Hollywood's veteran actor, passed away on Thursday, June 19, 2025, in his sleep at home in Los Osos, California, his nephew, Dean Sullivan, told The Hollywood Reporter. He was 96. Born on April 11, 1929, in Jersey City, New Jersey, Jack Fillmore Betts claimed that he was related to the 13th U.S. president, Millard Fillmore. At the age of 10, he reportedly moved with his family to Miami. He was inspired to pursue acting after he saw Laurence Olivier in Wuthering Heights (1939). After completing his graduation from Miami Senior High School, he studied theater at the University of Miami. He acted in the Moss Hart play Light Up the Sky in Cuba. Later he moved to New York and made it to Broadway in 1953 in Richard III, starring José Ferrer. The actor played the role of Henry Balkan in the 2002 Spider-Man movie alongside Toby McGuire. He had also featured in one of the all-time popular American sitcoms, Friends, in which he played the character of Tom. Besides this, Betts had also appeared in other TV comedies such as Everybody Loves Raymond and My Name is Earl. He often escorted her to events from the late 1980s until her death in April 2016. Betts was a member of The Actors Studio. He played the role of Llanview Hospital doctor Ivan Kipling on ABC's One Life to Live from 1979 to 1985. In his acting career, he has played roles in several soap operas, including General Hospital, The Edge of Night, The Doctors, Another World, All My Children, Search for Tomorrow, Guiding Light, Loving, and Generations.
