Blackhawks retain F Ryan Donato with four-year, $16M deal

Reuters2 days ago

June 19 - Chicago Blackhawks forward Ryan Donato signed a four-year, $16 million contract extension, the team announced Wednesday.
Donato, 29, could have become an unrestricted free agent on July 1, but instead chose to sign a deal through the 2028-29 season with Chicago.
Last season, Donato led the Blackhawks with a career-best 31 goals in 80 games. His 31 assists and 62 points were also career highs.
"Ryan brings energy and competes hard every game, which has been a huge asset to our team over the last two seasons," Blackhawks general manager Kyle Davidson said in a statement. "He's been a crucial part of our offense, and we're excited for Ryan to continue to make a difference in our lineup for the next four years."
Donato, an eight-year veteran, has 43 goals in two seasons with the Blackhawks. He had never scored more than 31 points in a season until doubling that output last season.
Donato has 108 goals and 119 assists in 483 games with the Boston Bruins, Minnesota Wild, San Jose Sharks, Seattle Kraken and Blackhawks.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts tells Padres rival Mike Shildt 'I'm gonna beat your a**' as tensions spill over

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts appeared to warn his Padres counterpart Mike Shildt that he would 'beat his a**' after the benches cleared on Thursday night. Tensions spilled over in Los Angeles after Fernando Tatis Jr. was hit by a pitch, with players and coaches spilling on to the field in anger. As Tatis lay on the floor in agony, an irate Shildt stormed out of the bench and began to complain about the incident. Before long, both benches had emptied and fracas had ensued, with officials attempting to separate the two teams. No punches were thrown but Roberts could be seen trading words with Shildt, who had to be restrained by fellow San Diego staff members. An official attempted to calm Roberts down and lead him back towards the Dodgers bench. But, in another clip that soon flooded social media, the manager could be seen pointing and shouting 'I'm going to beat your a**!' Managers Dave Roberts and Mike Shildt had a lot to say to each other. — The Comeback (@thecomeback) June 20, 2025 Dodgers manager Roberts and Padres manager Shildt were ejected following the tense back-and-forth exchange. 'I didn´t feel good about Tatis - great player, good guy - getting hit,' Roberts said. 'I didn´t feel good about it. 'And so as (Shildt) comes out, and he´s yelling at me and staring me down, that bothers me. Because, to be quite frank, that´s the last thing I wanted.' Shildt said he has respect for the Dodgers but seeing Tatis get hit three times by their pitchers in less than two weeks doesn't sit right. 'Whether it was (intentional) or it wasn't, enough is enough,' Shildt said. 'We got a guy who's getting X-rays right now, is one of the best players in the game, fortunately he's on our team, and this guy has taken shots, OK?' The teams waited more than two months to face each other for the first time this season and it took seven games over 11 days for the simmer to reach full boil. Dodgers right-hander Jack Little — making his major league debut — hit Tatis Jr. with a pitch in the ninth inning. Padres reliever Robert Suarez hit Shohei Ohtani with a pitch in the bottom of the ninth and was ejected. Tatis and Ohtani were each hit by pitches twice in the series. Xander Bogaerts homered among his four hits and scored three runs, and the San Diego Padres beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 5-3 on Thursday night to avoid a four-game sweep.

Disgraced granddaughter of late Saints owner arrested for altercation with South Carolina cop

The granddaughter of late New Orleans Saints and Pelicans owner Tom Benson was arrested Monday and accused of interfering with a Charleston, South Carolina police officer as he attempted to put a parking boot on her vehicle. Rita LeBlanc, 48, was released on a personal recognizance bond the following day after being charged with hindering an officer/city employee, according to online jail records. reported that Sargent Christ Stinson accused LeBlanc of taking the locking tool from a parking boot as he attempted to fasten it to one of the wheels of her car. LeBlanc, a former vice chairperson for the Saints, is due back in court on July 24. A child of Benson's adopted daughter, Renee, Rita was fired by her grandfather from the team in 2015 before being disinherited altogether along with her mother and brother, Ryan. She would respond with a lawsuit, challenging Benson's mental competency at the time of his decision. The two sides settled in 2016. Previously, in 2012, Jeff Duncan reported she was suspended from the team because of 'lack of focus and abrasive management style.' Sources told Duncan that LeBlanc's sense of entitlement became an issue with her grandfather, who'd frequently worked six-day weeks despite his immense wealth. Benson's third wife and LeBlanc's stepmother, Gayle, became the Saints' principal owner in 2018 following his death. The Saints have failed to reach the postseason since 2020, while Gayle has faced criticism over a Catholic Church sex scandal in the Archdiocese of New Orleans. The Associated Press reported in January of 2020 that senior vice president of communications Greg Bensel provided PR advice to church officials as they navigated fallout from a child sex-abuse scandal. The scandal resurfaced before February's Super Bowl in New Orleans when the AP released emails showing the extent of the Saints communications team's involvement with the church. 'This is disgusting,' state Representative Mandie Landry (Democrat - New Orleans) said in February. 'As a New Orleans resident, taxpayer and Catholic, it doesn't make any sense to me why the Saints would go to these lengths to protect grown men who raped children. All of them should have been just as horrified at the allegations.'

Pacers star Pascal Siakam caught in scary pregame ritual before NBA Finals as fans claim 'devil magic' sealed win

NBA fans believe 'devil magic' was responsible for the Indiana Pacers' series-saving victory over the Oklahoma City Thunder after cameras spotted Pascal Siakam in a disturbing pregame ritual. The Pacers have set up a mouthwatering Game 7 showdown with the Thunder in this season's NBA Finals after an emphatic 108-91 win in Indiana on Thursday night. Before they blew Oklahoma City away at Gainbridge Fieldhouse, Siakam could be seen going through a bizarre routine in the tunnel as he and his teammates huddled together for one last pep talk. Television cameras captured the Cameroonian power forward glancing up at the ceiling with his eyes completely rolled back, leaving fans both baffled and slightly terrified on social media. 'That man went to another place. Something happened here,' one user posted on X. 'Everybody praying & he turning into the exorcist,' wrote another. A third asked: 'And you're gonna tell me they don't [do] devil magic?' Siakam's routine clearly worked as he put up 16 points in a resounding win over the Thunder A fourth joked: 'Sold his soul for this game!' 'Undertaker?' said another who drew comparisons with the WWE legend. Whatever Siakam was up to in the tunnel, it worked for him and his team as he put up 16 points and 13 rebounds in a dominant victory for the Pacers. Star man Tyrese Haliburton scored 14 points for the Pacers, who started slowly and then turned things into a blowout. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander was on hand with 21 points for the Thunder, who pulled their starters from the game when they trailed by 30 going into the fourth. Jalen Williams added 16. Indiana missed its first eight shots and got down 10-2. The arena, roaring just a few minutes before at the start, quieted quickly. After the slow start, the Pacers outscored the Thunder 68-32 over the next 24 minutes. An Indiana team that hadn't led by more than 10 points at any time in the first five games - and that double-digit lead was brief - led by 28 early in the third quarter. The margin eventually got to 31, which was Oklahoma City's second-biggest deficit of the season. Indiana's huge win means the thrilling series will now be decided on Sunday night when the action moves back to Oklahoma for a decisive Game 7, the first one in the NBA Finals since 2016.
