2025 NBA, WNBA picks; predictions: Back OKC to cover first half in Game 5
I'm back with my best bets for Wednesday night.
On the NBA side, it looks like the Western Conference finals series is pretty much over. So I've got a couple wagers that I like for that game.
And now that the WNBA is in full swing, I've found at least one spot that I think is worth a look.
Check out what I'm on for Wednesday's matchups.
Timberwolves @ Thunder
The series went to Minnesota with the Thunder up 2-0, and it now returns to Oklahoma City for Game 5 with the Thunder up 3-1. One more win for the Thunder and they are through to the NBA Finals.
The Wolves played their best game of the postseason in Game 3 when they routed OKC. In Game 4, the Thunder controlled from first tip to final horn, even though it was just a single-possession win for them. I think the Thunder wrap up the series tonight, and I have a couple wagers I like around that thought.
Oklahoma City -4.5 first half
I expect the Wolves to attempt to start fast, knowing that this could be their final game of the season.
Anthony Edwards didn't play well in Game 4, so expect him to force the pace early and attempt to get the Wolves out of the gate quickly. So even though I love wagering on the first quarter, that's not what I'm doing for this one. Instead, I will take the Thunder to win the first half, after they weather the Wolves' early energy.
Once the Thunder settle into the game, they will look to put Minnesota away by halftime. The quicker they are able to end the game, the better. I'm also fading the Wolves' backups who will play in that stretch between the end of the first quarter and the first six minutes of the second quarter.
Role players, like Donte DiVincenzo, Naz Reid and Nickeil Alexander-Walker, who combined for 55 points in Game 4, will not play as well on the road. That same group scored 56 combined points in the first two games of the series.
So Minnesota will get off to a fast start and then OKC will withstand the early energy and pull away in the second quarter when the Wolves' backups are in the game.
PICK: Oklahoma City (-4.5 FH) to lead by more than 4.5 points at halftime
Donte DiVincenzo Over/Under 9.5 points
Fading role players on the road after a monster home-scoring output is one of my favorite playoff angles.
DiVincenzo was fantastic in Game 4. He scored 21 points while making five of his eight 3-pointers. It was the most points that he's scored in the postseason. His previous high was 13, and he's only been above nine points in three of the Wolves' 14 postseason games.
DiVincenzo is 10-for-43 from 3 on the road in the postseason, while shooting 16-for-41 from 3 at home. He's coming off back-to-back games at home where he made seven of his 10 3-point attempts.
I do not expect that to continue on the road in Game 5 based on his splits and the nature of role players in the league.

Indiana Fever @ Washington Mystics
Kiki Iriafen Over/Under 11.5 points
The Fever's interior defense has been an issue this season and, through four games, they've allowed the opposing bigs to score points.
In their first game, Angel Reese scored 12 points for the Sky. The first game against the Dream saw Brittney Griner score 21 points and Brionna Jones add 19. The second game against the Dream was better, with Jones scoring 15 and Griner scoring just five. Against the Liberty on Saturday, Jonquel Jones scored 26 points, shooting nearly 65% from the field.
Iriafen is averaging nearly 14 points per game through her first five WNBA games and is off a game with just four field goal attempts after getting up at least 10 shot attempts in the first four contests.
She will have a higher output of shot attempts tonight against the Fever.

Scott Foster Not Among Referees Picked to Officiate Pacers-Thunder Game 7
James Capers, Josh Tiven and Sean Wright joined a very small club on Sunday. Capers, Tiven and Wright were announced by the NBA as the officiating crew for Game 7 of the NBA Finals between the Oklahoma City Thunder and the Indiana Pacers. It's the first Game 7 of a finals for all three, who are now the 22nd, 23rd and 24th referees in NBA history to land such an assignment. "Being selected to work the NBA Finals is the top honor as an NBA official," Byron Spruell, the NBA's president of league operations, said earlier this month when the 12-person list of finals referees was revealed. And Game 7, one would think, is the top of the top honors. Scott Foster, a two-time Game 7 finals referee and generally considered one of the best in the game, was not picked for the crew. Had he been, he would have become the seventh referee picked to work at least three Game 7s in the title series. The referees in NBA history who have worked that many are Mendy Rudolph (six), Earl Strom (five), Sid Borgia (four), Dan Crawford (three), Joe Crawford (three) and Richie Powers (three). Foster — who is frequently criticized online by fans — was defended by Indiana coach Rick Carlisle after Game 4, notable because it was a game that the Pacers lost. "As far as officiating, I think it's awful some of the things I've seen about the officiating, and Scott Foster in particular," Carlisle said before Game 5. "I've known Scott Foster for 30 years. He is a great official. He has done a great job in these playoffs. We've had him a lot of times. The ridiculous scrutiny that is being thrown out there is terrible and unfair and unjust and stupid." The NBA had 75 full-time officials this season and 36 of those were selected to work the first round of the playoffs. The officiating roster is further trimmed going into each playoff round, with the league's referee operations management team determining who should advance. Capers is working his 13th finals, Tiven his sixth and Wright is in the finals for only the second time. It's the second game of these finals for all three referees — Capers worked Indiana's win in Game 3, while Wright and Tiven were both on the crew for Oklahoma City's win in Game 4. James Williams, who worked Games 2 and 5 of the series, was picked as the alternate for Game 7. David Guthrie, who officiated Games 1 and 6, was the referee assigned to the replay center in Secaucus, New Jersey, for Game 7. Thunder coach Mark Daigneault addressed officiating — and how he and his team respect referees — from a general perspective Saturday, when asked how his team has avoided being called for very many technical fouls this season. "The outcome of the game and the context of the game is outside of our control," Daigneault said. "In between the lines is inside our control. The referees (are) in that category, too. We can't control how they call the game and what they put a whistle on and what they don't. We can control a lot of other things in the game, and that's what we need to focus on." Indiana Pacers fans probably don't need to be revved up any more than they already are, but franchise legend Reggie Miller is here to do it anyway. The Pacers' career scoring leader offers one last bit of hype entering Game 7 of the NBA Finals against the Oklahoma City Thunder. Miller has been courtside at Gainbridge Fieldhouse throughout the best-of-seven series, honoring former teammates Mark Jackson, Dale Davis and Jalen Rose by wearing throwback jerseys. This time, he offers his voice to a video on social media. "This is it. Game 7. The moment we've all been fighting for. "And now, on the edge of history, we stand together. A team backed by a fan base that never sat down, never went quiet and never stopped believing. "Others said we were not supposed to be here. They saw doubt, but we saw destiny. They said we snuck in, but we kicked the door down. Earned every play, every bruise, and the right to be on this stage. "Let it be known: We're not here to participate. Tonight we write the ending they never saw coming. "It's about claiming everything we built together. It's about taking their will and turning our beliefs into banners. "Tonight, a new champion will be crowned. Let's bring that hardware home, gentlemen." Miller played 18 seasons for the Pacers (1987-2005), scoring 25,279 regular-season points. Indiana made the 2000 NBA Finals, losing to the Los Angeles Lakers in six games. The Pacers have retired Miller's No. 31 jersey and he is in the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.
