LOS ANGELES – With the Summer of Soccer reaching a fever pitch, FOX Sports, America's English-language home for the world's top international soccer tournaments, today announces all-time great and United States Women's National Team (USWNT) legend Carli Lloyd will return for her third consecutive summer as a studio analyst with the network.
'With the UEFA Women's EURO starting up and the U.S. off to a good start in the Gold Cup, I'm thrilled to be back with FOX Sports for what promises to be an incredible next few months of soccer,' said Lloyd. 'I can't wait to cover all the storylines across both tournaments and especially with the UEFA Women's EURO, continuing to be a part of growing the women's game on FOX with a really impressive schedule that puts the tournament and players center stage.'
On Wednesday, July 2 , Lloyd makes her summer debut in studio for an epic opening edition of WOMEN'S EURO TODAY before UEFA Women's EURO 2025™ kicks off on FOX with Iceland vs. Finland at 12:00 PM ET and Switzerland vs. Norway at 3:00 PM ET. Later that day, she'll be back in studio on CONCACAF GOLD CUP MATCH DAY ahead of the 2025 Concacaf Gold Cup Semifinals from St. Louis, Missouri and Santa Clara, California, starting at 6:30 PM ET on FS1.
Lloyd first appeared as a studio analyst with FOX Sports in April 2022 before becoming a featured member of the broadcast team at the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™. She then joined the network for FIFA Women's World Cup Australia & New Zealand 2023™ and was back in studio last year for CONMEBOL Copa América 2024™.
A 2025 National Soccer Hall of Fame inductee, Lloyd's legendary international career spanned 17 years and concluded with 316 caps, good for second all-time in U.S. history and third all-time internationally for both men and women. She represented the U.S. on the pitch across three different decades, including four FIFA World Cups™ and four Olympics, and played in more FIFA World Cup™ and Olympic matches than any other player in USWNT history. A two-time FIFA Women's World Cup™ champion, two-time Olympic gold medalist and back-to-back FIFA Women's Player of the Year in 2015 and 2016, Lloyd retired from the game in October 2021 as the highest scoring midfielder in U.S. history with 134 career goals, ranking third all-time for the USWNT.

There are no provisions within Fifa's regulations to prevent Iran from playing their group matches in the US, despite the country being subject to military action by the Trump administration and Iranian citizens being under a travel ban that prevents them from entering the country. The ban contains an exemption that could apply to players, staff or associated families with teams at the 2026 Fifa World Cup. Advertisement Iran, who faced USA in the group stage of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, qualified in March for their fourth consecutive World Cup. Although 2026 is also being hosted by Canada and Mexico, only by being given a specific slot in group A could Iran avoid playing in the US, with their matches then taking place in Mexico. Should they go further – and they have never reached a World Cup knockout game – they would then play in the US. The decision will be a difficult one for its president, Gianni Infantino, who has associated himself closely with President Donald Trump, who authorised the use of US bombs on Iranian nuclear sites last weekend. Advertisement Infantino and the Fifa Council will have the final say on inclusion in the competition and the makeup of the draw, but the organising committee for Fifa competitions will be expected to have input. The committee has members from Canada, Mexico and Iran, and its chair is Uefa's president, Aleksander Ceferin. In 2022, his organisation announced that Ukraine and Belarus would be kept apart in Uefa competition draws, after the Russian invasion of Ukraine, and his action may provide an example for Fifa to follow. Before the World Cup draw in Qatar, the agreed draw constraints included limitations on where teams could be selected but this related only to a 'general principle' that no more than one team from each confederation (excluding Europe) should appear in a given group.

Blue Jays' Max Scherzer Expected to Return From IL Wednesday

Three-time Cy Young Award winner Max Scherzer is expected to be activated from the 60-day injured list to start for Toronto at Cleveland on Wednesday, manager John Schneider said after the Blue Jays' 4-2 loss to the White Sox on Sunday. "He's ready to go," Schneider said of Scherzer, adding that the veteran right-hander will likely be capable of throwing as many as 90 pitches. Scherzer was declared ready to return after throwing between 30 and 40 pitches in a bullpen session Sunday morning. "Really, really excited to have him back," Schneider said. "That's a huge, huge, obviously, addition to us. It's Max Scherzer. I'll take that any day of the week." At Columbus last Wednesday, Scherzer gave up two runs, struck out four and walked none over 4.1 innings in the second of two rehab starts for Triple-A Buffalo. The previous Friday, Scherzer struck out eight in 4.1 scoreless innings for the Bisons in a home start against Worcester. The 40-year-old Scherzer signed a one-year, $15.5 million deal with the Blue Jays in February. He left his Toronto debut against Baltimore on March 29 after three innings because of soreness in his right lat muscle. The next day, Toronto put Scherzer on the injured list because of a separate injury: inflammation in his thumb. Scherzer has had two cortisone injections this season to relieve inflammation in his troublesome thumb. He was transferred to the 60-day injured list last month, but became eligible to return May 29, two weeks before his first rehab appearance. He went 2-4 with a 3.95 ERA in nine starts for Texas last season, starting the year on the injured list while recovering from lower back surgery. Scherzer said earlier this season that his sore thumb, which impacted his 2022 and 2023 seasons, was also an issue in 2024. Scherzer won World Series titles with Washington in 2019 and Texas in 2023. He won his first Cy Young Award after going 21-3 with a 2.90 ERA in 32 starts for Detroit in 2013. The eight-time All-Star earned consecutive NL Cy Young Awards with the Nationals in 2016 and 2017. Scherzer has a career record of 216-112 with a 3.16 ERA in 467 games, including 458 starts. He has 3,408 strikeouts in 2,881 innings, second among active pitchers behind Justin Verlander and 101 strikeouts away from joining the top-10 all-time.
