Police launch crackdown on spurious seeds trade across Telangana
Hyderabad: Telangana Police has launched a comprehensive campaign against the illegal trade of spurious and substandard seeds across the state.
A joint task force, comprising police officials, agriculture department representatives, and seeds corporation personnel, has already been established at the district level to combat this growing menace.
The crackdown targets various offenses, including the sale of substandard seeds, expired seeds, unlicensed sales, and the distribution of banned herbicide-tolerant (HT) cotton seeds. Offenders face severe penalties under multiple acts, including the Seeds Act and the Environmental Protection Act, with punishments extending up to seven years imprisonment.
In recent operations, authorities in Vikarabad,and in commissionerates of Rachakonda, Warangal, and Ramagundam have seized significant quantities of spurious seeds. The DGP said that the state has adopted a zero-tolerance policy, implementing the Preventive Detention Act against the offenders.
He appealed to farmers to purchase seeds only from authorized dealers and report any suspicious activities to local police stations.

Lucknow: Holding a comprehensive conferencing session to review the training of 60,244 newly recruited police constables, DGP Rajeev Krishna on Friday said that after the completion of training, every police station in the state will benefit from the presence of 25 additional well-trained constables which will be a "gamechanger" for policing efficiency. Stressing on the significance of the initiative as a transformative milestone for the UP Police, he said the training initiative was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to build a professional and people-centric police force and urged officers to treat it as a generational responsibility. He said that recruits should be categorised based on their existing skillsets. "These details should be compiled using the Karmayogi portal to create a comprehensive skills database that can aid future resource planning," he said. The DGP also issued specific directives related to social media conduct. "All recruits must be thoroughly briefed on the official police social media policy. Both soft and hard copies of the policy, along with awareness video clips, should be distributed and shown at all training centres. In compliance with Supreme Court directives, all women's training centres must establish Vishakha Committees to handle internal complaints related to harassment," he said.

Madras High Court directs DGP to ensure names of sexual offence victims do not find place even in FIR
Shocked to come across the name of a sexual harassment victim having been mentioned in the First Information Report (FIR), the Madras High Court on Thursday directed the Director General of Police/Head of Police Force as well as Greater Chennai Commissioner of Police to ensure such incidents do not recur. Justice P. Velmurugan directed the DGP and Commissioner to issue strict instructions to all their subordinates that offences related to sexual offences against women and children must be dealt with the sensitivity that they deserve and the identity of the victims should not be revealed in any form. 'If any deviation is found, the entire police department would be held responsible and the court will take stringent action by way of initiating suo motu contempt,' the judge wrote and directed the Inspector of Kilpauk police station in Chennai to delete forthwith the name of the victim from the FIR before the court. 'The honourable Supreme Court has clearly given directions that the identity of victims of rape and other sexual offences should not be revealed in any form. But the investigating officers are not following either the law or the directions of the honourable Supreme Court,' the judge lamented. The orders were passed on a writ petition filed by the accused seeking a direction to the police to expedite the investigation and file a final report. Since the prosecution reported to have already filed the chargesheet, the judge disposed of the petition with general directions to the DGP and the Commissioner.

Govt committed to offering best training, infra to new recruits: UP DGP
Lucknow: Director general of police (DGP) Rajeev Krishna on Wednesday said the state govt was committed to offering the 60,244 newly recruited constables in UP Police the best training and infrastructure. He said this while inspecting the police lines at Kalli Paschim, Lucknow, where the new recruits are undergoing training. He evaluated the barracks, mess facilities, academic setups, logistics and overall infrastructure available at the site and gathered feedback from trainees. "The recruits are highly motivated and proud to join the UP Police. Most of them reached here after great effort, and we are committed to offering them the best training and infrastructure. Senior officers are regularly visiting training centres to ensure that all facilities are in place. Through structured training and access to experienced instructors from the directorate, these recruits will be shaped into capable and responsible police personnel," the DGP said.
