Yes, the Big 12 is loaded with improved teams. But Kansas State improving takes the program from very good to College Football Playoff great.It's a deeper bunch this year, the talent is there on both sides of the ball, and there should be more consistency and explosion.Even so, yeah, again, the Big 12 is going to be an any-given-week thing.There's no Arizona State, BYU, or Houston to face - those were three of the four losses last season. But going to Oklahoma State will be harder than it would've been last season. Kansas is better. Texas Tech is way better. Going to Arizona is difficult.But the Wildcats should be good enough to win their share of 50/50 games to overcome a few losses that are sure to come.

Most home runs before All-Star break: Cal Raleigh breaks Johnny Bench's catcher record
It's not every day a player is able to break a long-standing record held by a Baseball Hall of Famer. But that's just what Seattle Mariners catcher Cal Raleigh did on June 20 at Wrigley Field, breaking Hall of Famer Johnny Bench's record for most home runs by a catcher before the All-Star break. Raleigh, who is currently slated to start the Midsummer Classic for the American League based on recent voting, hit two home runs to break Bench's 1970 record in the Mariners' 9-4 win over the Chicago Cubs. The Mariners' catcher also recorded the mark in fewer games than Bench; Raleigh did it in 73 games compared to Bench's 87. Raleigh tied Bench's record in the top of the first inning with a two-out, solo home run to left center field to give the Mariners an early 1-0 lead. Then came the big shot for "Big Dumper" in the seventh inning. On a 1-1 pitch against Cubs reliever Caleb Thielbar, Raleigh sent one out of "The Friendly Confines" and onto Waveland Avenue for a go-ahead, two-run home run. It marked Raleigh's sixth multi-homer game of the season and increased his MLB-leading home run total to 29. On the afternoon, Raleigh finished 3-for-4 at the plate with three RBIs, three runs scored, two home runs and a walk. "I love watching him hit, seeing him go the other way while trying to get guys in from second and third. I love watching him throw, and unlike some guys you see, he's not afraid to throw. I love watching him call a game. I love watching him drive in runs," Bench told USA TODAY Sports' Bob Nightengale. 'I love watching everything he does, it's just so impressive." Per Raleigh is on pace for 63 homers this season, which would surpass Kansas City Royals catcher Salvador Perez's 2021 record for most home runs in a single season by a primary catcher (48). ESPN's Brian Windhorst: Rockets with Kevin Durant would be ‘serious contender' in West
Per ESPN's Brian Windhorst, the sticking point in Rockets-Suns trade talks for Kevin Durant appears to be two future draft picks (2027, 2029) that Houston owns from Phoenix. The Suns want those back. And between those two, longtime NBA insider Brian Windhorst thinks it's Houston that could be the most compelling fit. While the terms of a potential deal remain unknown, financial analysis from Rockets Wire suggests a package headlined by Jalen Green or a combination of Dillon Brooks and either Jabari Smith Jr. or Reed Sheppard as the most likely starting point for a trade. Draft equity and further matching salaries would likely be a component, as well. Phoenix is reportedly underwhelmed by the current offer, though negotiations are ongoing. So, why are the Suns underwhelmed? In a Friday appearance on ESPN's Get Up, Windhorst said the sticking point is two future draft assets that Houston owns from the Suns and is unwilling to give up for Durant, who turns 37 years old in September. Ime was an assistant coach for Brooklyn when KD was there. If Durant ends up in Houston, I think you've got a serious contender in the Western Conference. However, Houston is really not motivated to dip into the stash of picks that they have. Specifically, they have two future Phoenix Suns draft picks (in 2027 and 2029). That's what the Suns want back. They literally want some of the stuff back that they traded for Durant, which the Rockets went out and acquired from Brooklyn with the possibility of making a Durant trade. But they don't want to pay that price right now. They're basically wagering that the Suns' price will come down. Time will soon tell as to whether the Rockets are correct in that wager, with a deal reportedly possible at any time. To Windhorst's point, the Rockets finished 52-30 and No. 2 in the West last season, and that was with an elite defense and a mediocre offense. By adding Durant, who remains an All-Star forward with elite scoring, it would significantly improve Houston's biggest weakness. But given the advanced age, Rockets general manager Rafael Stone isn't willing to pay an extremely high price, considering that Durant's NBA prime is likely dwindling. CHICAGO (AP) — Cal Raleigh broke Hall of Famer Johnny Bench's 1970 record for home runs by a catcher before the All-Star break, hitting his major league-leading 28th and 29th in the Seattle Mariners' 9-4 victory over the Chicago Cubs on Friday. Raleigh put Seattle ahead and moved past Bench in the seventh inning with No. 29 , a drive to the back of the left-field bleachers off Caleb Thielbar. Raleigh sent his first homer just over the basket in the first off Matthew Boyd. Raleigh needed only 73 games to break the record that Bench set in 87 games. The Seattle star shattered the mark with 22 games to spare before the All-Star game. The 28-year-old slugger had three hits in his sixth multi-homer game of the season.
