Lucknow: Outlining his vision to transform Lucknow into India's next major digital hub, with Sarojininagar leading the way, MLA Rajeshwar Singh posted on X, saying, "This is just the beginning," as the city's identity evolves "from tradition to technology.
"
He announced the development of India's first 70-acre Artificial Intelligence City in Lucknow, alongside Sarojininagar's emergence as a strategic defence-tech hub with the 1,500-acre Aerocity, BrahMos unit, and DRDO lab. Major players like IBM, Deloitte, Genpact, and Teleperformance have already entered the city, while Dassault Systèmes is investing Rs 240 crore in R&D at AKTU.
Singh emphasised that 35% of Bengaluru's tech workforce hails from Uttar Pradesh and it's time for them to return.
Citing a NASSCOM–Deloitte report, he highlighted Lucknow's rising status among India's emerging tech cities, driven by talent availability, cost advantage, and govt support.
He also proposed the formation of a Uttar Pradesh Artificial Intelligence Commission to regulate and promote AI research. Crediting Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath for the ongoing transformation, Singh said, "Sarojininagar is not just growing — it is becoming India's innovation epicentre. We're building tomorrow's Uttar Pradesh today."

MUMBAI: CBI has filed a case against Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust officials and Tata Consulting Engineers, a project management consultant, for allegedly causing Rs 804 crore loss to govt in contracts to increase depth of the channel for large cargo ships. CBI was carrying out searches at several premises at the time of going to press, report Vijay V Singh & Reeba Zachariah. The FIR mentions "preparation of inflated estimates, restriction of competition to favour international bidders, extension of undue favour to contractor & suppression of reports of independent organisations". The FIR was registered against ex-JNPT chief manager Sunil Kumar Madabhavi, TCE and its project director Devdutt Bose, BoskalisSmit India LLP, Jan De Nul Dredging India Pvt Ltd, and other unidentified individuals. It says the loss was spread over the dredging project's two phases - 2003-14 and 2013-19.

No fuel for end-of-life vehicles in Delhi from July 1: CAQM

New Delhi [India], June 21 (ANI): From July 1, all End-of-Life (EoL) vehicles identified through Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras installed at fuel stations across Delhi will not be allowed to refuel, the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM). According to the CAQM, this enforcement will extend to Gurugram, Faridabad, Ghaziabad, Gautam Budh Nagar, and Sonipat from November 1, while the rest of the National Capital Region (NCR) will implement the restriction from April 1, 2026. CAQM's member Dr Virendra Sharma said ANPR cameras have been installed at 500 fuel stations across Delhi, enabling real-time recording and tracking of vehicle data. To date, 3.63 crore vehicles have been screened through this system, of which 4.90 lakh vehicles have been identified as End-of-Life (EoL). He added that 29.52 lakh vehicles have renewed their Pollution Under Control Certificates (PUCC), resulting in the generation of challans amounting to Rs 168 crores. To strengthen enforcement, 100 dedicated teams from the Transport Department, Government of NCT of Delhi, are actively monitoring vehicle data to identify fuel stations with the highest number of EoL vehicles and ensure targeted compliance action. Dr Sharma said, 'It is very important to remove old BS standard vehicles to clean the air of Delhi and NCR. These vehicles play a big role in air pollution. Now that a transparent, digital and accountable system is in place, it will also be used at toll centres to make this system more effective. About 100 enforcement teams will work for this.' ANPR cameras have been installed at fuel stations to capture and read license plate numbers in real-time. As a vehicle enters the station, the ANPR system captures its license plate and instantly cross-verifies it with a centralised 'VAHAN' database containing registration details, fuel type, and the vehicle's age. If the system detects that the vehicle exceeds the permissible age limit--10 years for diesel and 15 years for petrol vehicles in Delhi--it is flagged as EoL. Once flagged, the system alerts the fuel station operator to deny refuelling, and the violation is logged and shared with enforcement agencies for further action. Further actions include impounding and scrapping the EoL vehicle. (ANI)

CBI books ex-officials of TCE, JNPT in ₹800 cr ship channel dredging scam

The Central Bureau of Investigation has filed a case against former officials of Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) and Tata Consulting Engineers (TCE), and two dredging companies over alleged irregularities worth over Rs 800 crore in the Capital Dredging Project to deepen ship navigational channels near Mumbai, officials said. The agency took the action after a three-year-long preliminary inquiry to look into the allegations of inflated estimates, throttling of competition to favour international bidders, extension of undue favours to contractors, and suppression of reports of independent expert organisations. In its FIR, the CBI has booked the then chief engineer of JNPT Sunil Kumar Madabhavi, then project director of TCE, Devdutt Bose, Boskalis Smit India LLP, Jan De Nul Dredging India Pvt Ltd and other unidentified public servants under IPC Section 120-B (criminal conspiracy), 420 (cheating) and provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act. After the FIR was registered on Wednesday, the CBI conducted searches at five locations in Mumbai and Chennai, including the residence of Madabhavi, Bose and offices of private companies. The searches led to the recovery of a number of documents relating to the Capital Dredging Project, digital devices and documents showing investments made by public servants, a CBI spokesperson said. The documents recovered are being examined, she said in a statement. No immediate reaction was available from the accused companies. "The allegations of pecuniary advantage obtained by the private companies as a result of abuse of official position by the JNPT officials resulting into a huge wrongful loss to the exchequer, spread over the period from 2003 to 2014 (phase-I of the project) and 2013 to 2019 (phase-II of the project) was also inquired," the CBI said in the FIR. The inquiry showed a criminal conspiracy between JNPT officials and other private persons, including an official of Tata Consulting Engineers, and others, which resulted in wrongful loss amounting to Rs 365.90 crore for phase-I and Rs 438 crore for phase-II to JNPT due to over-dredging. The case pertains to a project envisaged by the JNPT to deepen and widen the navigational channel it shared with the Mumbai Port in 2003 to cater to the needs of larger size cargo ships. TCE was roped in for preparation of a final report on the planning for dredging activities for the Capital Dredging Phase-I project, which was submitted in 2010 in association with Dredging Solution. TCE was also awarded the work of project management consultant for the project, including preparation of the tender documents and work of supervising the execution of the project, the FIR alleged. The CBI during its preliminary inquiry found that JNPT officials along with TCE executives kept tender conditions to favour foreign bidders, and violated the guidelines of Competition Commission of India by allowing complimentary bidding, and allowed the formation of the joint venture by solely eligible bidders Boskalis Smit India LLP with Jan De Nul Dredging India Pvt Ltd (also known as BSI-JDN JV). The CBI inquiry also showed violation of a number of guidelines related to fixation of rates for dredging different type of rocks, delay in project, false claim of Rs 348 crore by the contractor without actual performance of work, excess payment of Rs 430 crore, and manipulation of the pre-dredge survey by using a less accurate software, 'Qinsy', among others.
