Nurses under probe for seeking Eid bonus

Following the decision to grant an additional basic salary to Capital Development Authority employees from Grade 1 to 16 on the occasion of Eidul Azha, the CDA Chairman has also approved a similar honorarium of one basic salary for all Muslim officers in Grade 17 and above.
The decision will apply to contract and daily-wage employees as well, and an official notification has been issued in this regard. Furthermore, CDA Board members, who are on deputation appointments, will also be beneficiary of additional basic salary.
Sources reveal that the additional salary payments for all CDA employees and officers on Eidul Azha will cost the authority approximately Rs365.5 million, with Rs235m allocated for employees in Grade 1-16 and Rs30m for officers in Grade 17 and above.
It is reported that CDA has become especially lucrative for officers deputed from various departments, particularly board members. More notably, officers deputed to CDA are also allotted plots in Islamabad's D-Block sector after six months of service, despite CDA employees only being eligible for a plot after completing at least 10 years of service.
Sources highlight that different eligibility standards exist for permanent CDA employees and those on deputation. This disparity makes CDA postings highly desirable among senior officers from other departments.
A senior officer of the Capital Development Authority (CDA) shared an interesting office order, revealing that more than six nurses from Capital Hospital, serving in BS-17 to 19, visited the office of the Member Finance at CDA Headquarters two days ago. The nurses requested that, like employees from BS-1 to 15, they also be granted an additional basic salary as an Eid honorarium.
However, instead of their request being considered, the nurses were accused of violating departmental discipline, and a formal departmental inquiry was ordered against them. This action was taken despite the fact that, prior to the issuance of the inquiry order, the CDA had already officially approved the honorarium for all officers in Grade 17 and above.
Given this approval, even if the disciplinary action had any basis initially, the acceptance of the nurses' request rendered the inquiry unjustifiable and moot.
The CDA Chairman could not be reached for his version despite repeated attempts.

US attack on Iran: JI announces country-wide protests

Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) has announced that it will carry out protests across the country on Monday (today) against US aggression on Iran. In a statement on Sunday, JI Ameer Hafiz Naeemur Rehman condemned the US strikes on Iran's nuclear facilities as regional tensions escalate, calling the attack an open act of hostility following sustained Israeli support. The call for protests came as in a dramatic move that threw Washington into the thick of Israel's conflict with Tehran, US President Donald Trump announced on Sunday that American forces had "obliterated" Iran's key nuclear sites in a sweeping overnight assault, codenamed 'Midnight Hammer', raising the stakes across an already tinderbox Middle East. "After backing Israel, Washington has now come out openly. The US aggression is tantamount to destroying global peace," he said. He urged the Muslim Ummah to unite against the actions of both the United States and Israel. Hafiz Naeem instructed all party cadres and responsible leaders to organise demonstrations nationwide under the slogan "Down with America". "If the US does not immediately halt this war, we will escalate our campaign into a broader national protest movement," he warned. Meanwhile, addressing the Youth Digital Summit in Islamabad, Hafiz Naeem recalled that former US President Donald Trump had claimed they would wait two weeks before taking any action, but he "broke that promise on the very first day". "The United States no longer values moral considerations and speaks only the language of power," the JI chief said. "America's downfall has begun. All conscientious people around the world must unite against oppressors." He added that for nearly two years, Israel has been carrying out a massacre of Muslims in Palestine, and that this ongoing brutality must be opposed globally.

Eid meat glut leaves butchers jobless

The surge of sacrificial meat following Eidul Azha has affected the local meat business, leaving butchers across the district out of work for nearly 25 days. Even two weeks after the festival, most small and large butcher shops in the city remain closed. The few that reopened found no buyers and were forced to shut down again. Butchers had shut their shops nearly ten days before Eid. Since then, many have been unemployed, as residents continue to consume frozen meat stored in refrigerators and deep freezers. Locals report making a variety of dishes - from curries and pulao to biryani, kebabs, and barbeque - with the stored meat, which they say will last another one to two weeks. According to Khalid Qureshi, vice president of the Mutton and Beef Retailers Association, even hotels are experiencing a drop in meat consumption. Establishments that previously bought 10kg of meat daily are now purchasing only 4kg. He also noted that professional beggar families collected meat door-to-door during Eid and sold it cheaply, further hurting the business of legitimate retailers. Qureshi expects butcher shops to reopen around Thursday, July 3, once the frozen meat in homes runs out.
