Positive start 'imperative' for Martin's Rangers tenure
A positive start is "imperative" for Russell Martin if he is to get patience as Rangers head coach, says former midfielder Kevin Thomson.Friday's Scottish Premiership schedule reveal issued the new Ibrox boss with a tough introduction to his reign in Govan.Following a Champions League second round qualifier against Panathinaikos, Martin's side will open their league campaign with a trip to Motherwell.Rangers also face a trip to St Mirren and a home Old Firm derby in their first four Premiership games.Thomson notes the "slight disgruntlement from the fans" following Martin's arrival, but the ex-Ibrox midfielder is backing the former Southampton boss to do a good job.However, Thomson feels it is crucial the 39-year-old starts well."He's really articulate, really intelligent and presents himself well," Thomson said of Martin on BBC Sportsound."He suffered in the Premier League, no doubt, but I think he's going to do a good job. But he needs time. whether he will get time is anybody's guess. "That's going to be dictated by the start. The start is imperative, it really is. I hope he gets some sort of affordability to bring his own players in to get off to a good start and do a good job."

Centre-back Bushiri has been with Hibs since January 2022, but the 25-year-old is currently out of contract and weighing up his future. "Rocky's season was prolonged by going away on international duty, so he's been away doing that," Gray told the Press Association. "A couple of weeks off for him, a lot of positive talks in the meantime, and he's someone who did incredibly well for Hibs last season. "Naturally, there will be interest in him from elsewhere, but as I said, there have been real positive talks on that one. It's certainly something we're trying to do and working towards." Australian midfielder Triantis was one of four nominees for the Scottish Football Writers' Player of the Year award after excelling during his season-long loan from Sunderland, where he is contracted until 2027. "His parent club obviously got promoted to the Premier League, so there are conversations going on there about what's next for Nectar," Gray added. "Clearly, he's someone who was really, really good for us last year and someone you'd like to bring back.

Finn Russell has revealed that he buried the hatchet with Johnny Sexton with the help of Andy Farrell as the old foes join forces on the British and Irish Lions tour to Australia. Sexton has previously been critical of Russell, labelling him 'flashy' and a 'media darling', while adding he would choose Owen Farrell over him against the Wallabies because the former England captain is a 'Test match animal'. With the Gers stars due back for pre-season on Monday, Martin hopes to get the deal concluded quickly for him to travel north and join his side as they build up to the new season. Aarons made over 200 appearances for Martin's former club Norwich and was a youth player in their system during his time there. And he spoke fondly about the impact the former Canaries captain had on his development. He told the Talk Norwich Podcast last month: "The advice he would give and the relationship we built from there, he was almost like a father figure. "It's incredible. I nearly ended up back with them [Martin and Matt Gill] upon leaving Norwich that year, so that shows how the relationship just grew and grew. "They were definitely the ones that initially believed in me for sure." Now he's set to rekindle their relationship in Glasgow as he becomes his second signing after Lyall Cameron's move from Dundee was formally completed last week. And it's claimed Aarons turned down other options down south including in England's top flight. A report by TBR Football says Premier League new boys Leeds United were interested in his securing a loan deal for the former England Under 21 international. Their pursuit of Israeli striker Dor Turgeman has apparently hit 'a major snag', with complications surrounding the current geopolitical landscape there.
