Cooperation between ROP, local media outlets lauded
NIZWA: Dr Abdullah bin Nasser al Harrasi, Minister of Information, met on Wednesday with a number of commanders of the Royal Oman Police (ROP) at the Officers' Institute of the Sultan Qaboos Academy for Police Sciences in the Wilayat of Nizwa.
The meeting was attended by Lt Gen Hasan bin Mohsin al Shraiqi, Inspector General of Police and Customs.
During the meeting, Dr Abdullah reviewed the foundations, current state and future prospects of Omani media, emphasising its role in strengthening national security. He highlighted the importance of security media in conveying police messaging and the media's approach to various events and emergency situations.
He also touched upon governorates media, foreign media, the Government Communication Centre and the roles of the Directorate General of Publications and Artistic Works.
He affirmed that Omani media is rooted in national values and principles, reflecting the nation's commitment to achieving comprehensive development goals, building national identity and fostering social cohesion.
The minister noted that Oman Vision 2040 opens new horizons for media institutions to adopt modern technologies and enhance digital media content. He lauded the high level of coordination and cooperation between the ROP and various local media outlets. — ONA

St. Petersburg, Russia: The Sultanate of Oman, represented by the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion, concluded its participation in the 28th St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF), reaffirming its commitment to global economic dialogue and cross-border investment engagement. Oman spotlighted its integrated business ecosystem and priority sectors under Oman Vision 2040, which aims to foster a resilient and diversified economy. SPIEF 2025 attracted approximately 20,000 participants from 140 countries, maintaining robust international engagement. The Forum featured more than 150 events, ranging from thematic panels and plenary sessions to business breakfasts and bilateral dialogues. High-profile attendees included Russian President Vladimir Putin, Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, Chinese Vice Premier Ding Xuexiang, Bahraini royal Sheikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, and South African Deputy President Paul Mashatile — alongside senior officials from nearly 50 countries, including Vietnam, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, and the Central African Republic. Their presence underscored SPIEF's role as a pivotal platform for fostering multipolar economic cooperation. The Omani delegation was led by Her Excellency Ibtisam bint Ahmed Al Farooji, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion for Investment Promotion, who spearheaded a series of high-level meetings and sector-focused engagements. The delegation's program included participation in key forum sessions, bilateral meetings with institutional investors, and exploratory visits to major corporate pavilions. This year, Oman's focus centered on promoting investment in four high-potential sectors: luxury tourism, logistics, food security, and mining — each aligned with national efforts to position Oman as a competitive and future-ready investment destination. As part of its engagement, Oman organized a dedicated roundtable with leading Russian companies active in these sectors. The session provided a platform to present the Sultanate's competitive advantages, regulatory reforms, and infrastructure readiness, while facilitating direct dialogue with potential investors and strategic partners. Trade and economic cooperation between Oman and Russia continues to deepen. As of February 2024, the bilateral trade volume reached RO 30.9 million. Notably, Omani exports to Russia surged from RO 582,602 in 2022 to RO 3.35 million in 2023 — a remarkable 475% increase. Imports from Russia totaled RO 188.4 million, highlighting the scale and diversification of commercial ties between the two countries. Oman's participation in SPIEF 2025 aligns with its broader strategy to enhance investor outreach in key international markets, particularly in Eastern Europe and Central Asia. By leveraging global platforms such as SPIEF, Oman is actively cultivating a network of institutional investors and strategic partners to catalyse sustainable development and high-impact investment. Oman continues diplomatic push for peaceful resolution in region
STAFF REPORTER MUSCAT, JUNE 20 The Sultanate of Oman continues its intensive diplomatic efforts to encourage the international community to adopt all peaceful means to halt the Israeli aggression against the Islamic Republic of Iran. According to Oman, the escalation is a blatant violation of international, humanitarian and moral law; and a serious obstruction to dialogue and negotiation efforts aimed at securing a fair US–Iran agreement to prevent nuclear proliferation. In this context, Oman, alongside the Arab Republic of Egypt and several Arab and Islamic countries, issued a joint statement condemning Israeli attacks since June 13. The statement affirmed their rejection of military escalation, called for respect for state sovereignty and urged the peaceful resolution of conflicts. The statement also expressed deep concern over the consequences of continued escalation, calling for an end to hostilities, the removal of nuclear weapons and weapons of mass destruction from the region; and emphasised the need to protect nuclear facilities and resume negotiations as the only viable path to resolving the crisis while upholding the freedom of international navigation. Separately, Oman will participate on Saturday, in an extraordinary meeting of the Foreign Ministers of Islamic countries in Istanbul, headed by Shaikh Khalifa bin Ali al Harthy, Under-Secretary of the Foreign Ministry for Political Affairs, in support of collective diplomatic efforts. REPATRIATION EFFORTS In continuation of the efforts made by the Foreign Ministry to facilitate the repatriation of Omani citizens from the Islamic Republic of Iran, the safe return of 193 Omani nationals from Bandar Abbas Port to Khasab Port has been secured, as part of the third phase of the approved evacuation plan. In a humanitarian cooperation effort, this phase also included the repatriation of 158 nationals of other countries who were able to transit through Oman under the current circumstances. Additionally, 155 Omani citizens and a number of foreign nationals were safely repatriated by air from the Republic of Iraq to the Sultanate of Oman, as part of ongoing coordination with relevant authorities and the Omani Embassy in Baghdad. The Ministry, in cooperation with Oman's diplomatic missions abroad, continues to implement the evacuation plan to ensure the safe and secure return of all Omani citizens to their homeland.

245 Omanis repatriated from Iran and neighbouring countries
Muscat: In line with the Foreign Ministry's plan to facilitate the return of Omani citizens from abroad, 245 nationals have been repatriated in the latest phase of the initiative, which included cooperation with the Sultanate of Oman's embassy in Tehran and coordination with relevant authorities to ensure their safe and seamless return. The operation, part of the second phase of the evacuation plan, also covered the return of citizens from various other countries via the Iranian city of Bandar Abbas. As part of the initiative, ten buses were arranged to transport citizens from northern regions of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the border crossing with the Republic of Türkiye. Additionally, three buses were organised to facilitate transfers to the Shalamcheh border point with the Republic of Iraq. Coordination is currently under way with concerned entities in neighbouring countries to expedite their return, the ministry affirmed. The Foreign Ministry expressed its appreciation to the Iranian authorities for their cooperation and reiterated its commitment to continue efforts around the clock to ensure the safe return of all citizens to the Sultanate of Oman.
