RSAF Takes Part in Anatolian Phoenix Exercise in Türkiye

The Royal Saudi Air Force (RSAF) is participating in the Anatolian Phoenix 2025 exercise, taking place at Konya Air Base in Türkiye, reported the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).
Running from May 12-23, 2025, the Anatolian Phoenix is a multinational combat search and rescue exercises that aim to enhance combat efficiency and operational readiness.
RSAF is taking part in the exercise, alongside forces of brotherly and friendly countries, with two Cougar helicopters and their entire air, technical and support crews. The Saudi participation also includes six air controllers. This aims to strengthen operational preparedness, provide training in a realistic operational environment, and foster expertise exchange among participants.
The Anatolian Phoenix 2025 exercise aims to train participating forces on combat search and rescue operations, as well as training tactical air control teams on carrying tasks in coordination with systems of friendly nations taking part in the exercise.
RSAF has just concluded its participation in the Desert Flag 2025 exercise at Al Dhafra Air Base in the UAE, a key joint exercise that aims to exchange expertise in the fields of planning and execution, enhance combat readiness, and strengthen relations with the forces of the participating countries. The Royal Saudi Air Force joined the drill with the F-15C aircraft system, with its entire air, technical and support crews.
Joint military exercises, such as Anatolian Phoenix and Desert Flag, strengthen integrated coordination among national forces, develop capabilities and achieve mutual benefits to bolster national security. The participation of RSAF underscores its commitment to bolstering combat efficiency and operational readiness.

Saudi Arabia marks UN's World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought

JEDDAH: Saudi Arabia has marked the UN's World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought, an awareness event held annually on June 17. The day aims to spotlight the urgent need to address the growing challenges of land degradation, desertification and drought. The Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture said the event emphasized the importance of land restoration as a driver of opportunity, the Saudi Press Agency reported. It helps to raise awareness of the critical role healthy ecosystems play in creating jobs, enhancing food and water security and strengthening economic resilience, the ministry added. It also highlighted Saudi Arabia's diverse geography and climate which is home to a unique biodiversity adapted to a range of climatic conditions. The Kingdom has launched several major environmental initiatives, most notably the Saudi Green Initiative, which aims to plant 10 billion trees over the coming decades. The Kingdom is currently implementing 86 initiatives and programs with total investments exceeding SR705 billion ($188 billion), covering all aspects of the green economy. These initiatives align with the core objectives of the SGI: reducing carbon emissions, expanding national afforestation, and protecting terrestrial and marine ecosystems. More than 313,000 hectares of degraded land across the Kingdom have now been restored, and 115 million trees planted. MEWA has also launched the Environmental Awareness Initiative, which is designed to raise environmental literacy and support Sustainable Development Goals. The plan also emphasizes the importance of community engagement and cross-sector collaboration — from public institutions to private and non-profit entities. As part of its efforts to monitor marine habitats, the ministry has conducted extensive field surveys along the Red Sea coast, covering over 600 coral reef sites, 200 seagrass locations and 100 mangrove areas. According to UN data, desertification, land degradation and drought remain among the most pressing environmental challenges today, impacting up to 40 percent of the Earth's land surface. As the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration (2021–2030) reaches its midpoint, there is a critical need to accelerate restoration efforts on a global scale. If current trends continue, the world will need to restore 1.5 billion hectares of land by 2030, creating a restoration economy valued at over $1 trillion. The planet is currently losing healthy land at a rate equivalent to four football fields per second.

420,070 personnel served 1.67 million pilgrims during Hajj 2025: GASTAT

Saudi Gazette report RIYADH — The General Authority for Statistics (GASTAT) on Tuesday released its official Hajj 2025 Statistical Bulletin, revealing that 420,070 individuals from both the public and private sectors, including security agencies, served the 1,673,230 pilgrims who performed Hajj this year. Of those working in the service of pilgrims, 92% were men and 8% were women. The total also included 34,540 volunteers — male and female — who collectively contributed 2,134,398 volunteer hours within the holy sites during the Hajj season. GASTAT's data also showed that 314,337 pilgrims benefited from the 'Makkah Route Initiative,' representing 20.9% of all foreign pilgrims. The initiative, launched in 2017, streamlines the arrival process for pilgrims from eight countries by conducting pre-travel immigration procedures. The bulletin reaffirmed previously released figures, stating that a total of 1,673,230 pilgrims performed Hajj this year. This included 1,506,576 foreign pilgrims arriving through various entry points and 166,654 domestic pilgrims, comprised of both Saudi citizens and of the total pilgrim count, 877,841 were men and 795,389 were said its data relies on administrative records from the Ministry of Interior, providing a high degree of reliability and accuracy. These records cover the full range of pilgrim demographics and services provided, following a statistical methodology applied consistently over the past five years.
