Crane and truck collide in Mumbai, massive traffic jam on busy highway
Mumbai, June 20 (UNI) A crane and truck collided at Aarey Bridge in Mumbai's Goregaon area on Friday morning, leading to major traffic disruption on the busy Western Express Highway (WEH) during peak hours.
The drivers of both vehicles were injured and were admitted to a hospital. Their condition is reported to be stable, officials said.
The accident caused a massive jam on the southbound stretch, affecting office-goers and early commuters.
Local authorities, including the Mumbai Traffic Police and emergency personnel, rushed to the spot and began efforts to remove the overturned crane and resume the traffic flow.
The Mumbai Traffic Police issued an alert on social media platform X warning commuters to expect delays. The post read: 'Traffic movement is slow at Aarey Bridge (Dindoshi).' Commuters were advised to take alternate routes while recovery operations were underway.
Authorities are currently investigating the cause of the accident, including whether overspeeding or a mechanical failure contributed to the crash. Meanwhile, efforts are being made to clear the flyover and restore normalcy.

Audi weighs $4.6 billion US plant to ease tariff tensions
Volkswagen 's premium brand Audi could build a plant at a new location in the United States under scenarios being considered to placate President Donald Trump in the tariff conflict, the Spiegel news magazine reported on Friday. Audi is considering building a plant in the southern US, which would be the more expensive option out of a number of scenarios being considered, with company sources estimating costs of up to 4 billion euros ($4.6 billion), the report said. Audi has no production of its own in the US, but Volkswagen has a plant in Chattanooga, Tennessee and one under construction near Columbia, South Carolina. Trump's announcement of sweeping tariffs has already racked up hundreds of millions of euros in costs for German carmakers heavily reliant on their export business, according to an industry representative. BMW, Mercedes-Benz and Volkswagen are in talks with Washington over a possible import tariff deal, seeking to use their US investments and exports as leverage to soften any blow, sources have told Reuters.

Geely to hold 26.4% stake in Brazilian JV majority-owned by Renault
China's Geely said on Friday it and its parent Geely Holding would take a combined 26.4% stake in a joint venture controlled by its French partner Renault as the two seek to produce and sell cars jointly in Brazil. The two automakers have entered an agreement that would see Renault take 73.57% in the venture that would focus on producing and distributing cars in Brazil under the Renault and Geely brands. It is also due to make and distribute light commercial vehicles under the Renault brand to "attract new customers", according to a filing by Geely Auto. The deal is subject to regulatory approvals, the company said. Geely and Renault first announced their partnership to produce and sell zero- and low-emission vehicles in Brazil in February. The Brazilian partnership builds on the two companies' thermal engine joint venture headquartered in London and their jointly owned manufacturing plant in South Korea.
