Wrexham talisman Paul Mullin has confessed to feeling frustrated over being left out of the squad by manager Phil Parkinson, and his time at the club could be nearing its end

Wrexham star Paul Mullin has admitted his time at the club could be over after expressing resentment over being frozen out of the squad. The striker has been a talisman for the Red Dragons since joining in July 2021, scoring 110 goals in 172 outings across all competitions.
However, the 30-year-old struggled for form in League One this season, only finding the net three times after undergoing back surgery last summer. Mullin, who is a favourite of Wrexham co-owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, was left out of the matchday squad completely in the league after the end of January.
His exclusion followed manager Phil Parkinson bringing in strikers Sam Smith and Jay Rodriguez during the winter transfer window. Mullin has been linked with a move away from the Racecourse Ground this summer after the Welsh side secured promotion to the Championship in April.
The Liverpudlian has now confessed his days with Wrexham could be numbered after voicing his frustration at being sidelined by Parkinson. Mullin made the admission during an emotional interview featured in the latest episode of the Welcome to Wrexham docuseries, despite stating his desire to continue playing for the club.
Speaking in scenes recorded before the end of the season, he said: "Just to play one game in the Championship with Wrexham would be worth absolutely everything. It would be the icing on the cake for this story and who knows where it could end.
"I've enjoyed every minute here, and if we could get to the Championship, then that'd be phenomenal. From a personal point of view, I don't think I'll have any part to play in it from here on in."

Mullin is currently under contract with Wrexham until the summer of 2027, but reports suggest he could be allowed to leave for free this summer after slipping down the pecking order. The striker is the club's seventh highest goal scorer of all time and Wigan Athletic are said to be among the teams interested in acquiring his services.
He spoke on the documentary about the mental struggles he experienced while recovering from his back injury. Mullin said he found it difficult going from being an important player to not featuring at all.
"I let that get to me, to be honest, from where I've been to then only being allowed to play four games and finding myself being left out of the team," he said. "I resented it and I carried that for weeks because I felt it was unjust.

"I think I'm more annoyed now. It's the annoyance of training every single day, doing everything I can, and looking back on everything I've done.
"I feel like I was a main part of why we got into this situation, and then I'm not being allowed the platform to get back there, or the opportunity to go and do it again. It's difficult. I don't know what's caused him [Parkinson] to trust me less, but he clearly does."
He later added: "I've let go of all resentment and anger. Going forward, the only thing I can do is control myself. Lately, I've just been making sure that when I go home I'm satisfied with my day's work and not trying to satisfy someone else."

Parkinson recently confirmed Mullin will be involved in the club's pre-season preparations despite the uncertainty over his future. He also said he would go down as a "legend" in Wrexham's history for his goalscoring exploits.
The former Bolton and Sunderland boss addressed his decision to leave Mullin out of the team directly in the latest documentary episode.
Parkinson said: "When we brought two strikers in January, we always knew we'd have a surplus and people would find themselves out of the 18-man squad, because you can only have seven substitutes. That's the way it is and Mulls just didn't quite get the goals which he normally does.

"Paul and Ollie [Palmer] found themselves out of the 18-man squad. It's a harder level than we've been operating at. They're both good lads, really good lads, and have carried on training well for us, but it's tough and it's a competitive division. To make the step up, it's not easy."

But supporters of the club, founded in 1871, seemed to be more concerned about the look of the shirts — modelled on Instagram by new signing Paudie O'Connor and by supporters in a club video. One fan online quipped: 'Looks like a Wetherspoons plate.' Another agreed: 'Wetherspoons plate kit.' A third said: 'We don't want to look like biscuits tins…not my cup of tea.' Leroy Lita scores a screamer for Reading against Crystal Palace Royals fan Matt Wilkinson commented: 'Let's hope we can do our talking on the pitch in this kit — rather than being mocked off of it for looking like a dog's dinner — served on a Spoons' plate.' One football fan added: 'Looks like my nan's wallpaper in the 70s.' Others said the jersey resembled a festive sweater, with one quipping: 'What in the Christmas kit is this?' But in a jokey reference to classier tablewear collections, Tom argued: 'If some trendy team like Venezia or Versailles came out with this, it would be lauded as one of the best shirts of the season. I think it's spectacular!'

Andy Farrell slams 'unacceptable' Lions players in live TV interview
Andy Farrell slams 'unacceptable' Lions players in live TV interview The 2025 Lions started with a disappointing 28-24 defeat to Argentina, who were without a number of top players Lions head coach Andy Farrell (Image: PA Wire ) British and Irish Lions head coach Andy Farrell says he takes responsibility for the Lions' surprise loss to Argentina in their opening match but claimed some of what he saw was unacceptable. The famous side went down 28-24 in Dublin as a series of crucial handling errors and missed tackles saw the Pumas take full advantage and pull off an historic win. The game wasn't without positives for the Lions but they looked like a side that has never played together before. Sign up to Inside Welsh rugby on Substack to get exclusive news stories and insight from behind the scenes in Welsh rugby. Trailing 21-10 at the interval, Farrell's men went on to produce their most effective rugby but they could not break stubborn opponents ranked fifth in the world in front of a sold-out Aviva Stadium. A penalty try and Tadhg Beirne touchdown created a path to victory but Argentina's ruthless counter-attacking swept Santiago Cordero in for the match-winning in the 59th minute. The Lions were behind at the break (Image: 2025 Getty Images ) Article continues below It is the Pumas' only success in the rivals' eight meetings and the first time the Lions have lost their tour opener since 1971. The Lions showed a willingness to attack in a promising sign ahead of their arrival Down Under, but their accuracy failed to match their ambition and they were often guilty of overplaying. Ignacio Mendy of Argentina scores a try under pressure from Tommy Freeman (Image: 2025 Getty Images ) Speaking to Sky Sports in a live TV interview, Farrell said: "It was a show from Argentina. Congrats, they deserved the win and capitalised on all the errors we made. "There is a lot to do. You can't win a Test with that error rate. We lost enough balls in that game for a full tour, throwing balls that weren't on. "But it wasn't just that. The aerial battle and the scraps on the floor, they were hungrier than us and that is just not acceptable. Article continues below "I'm disappointed. We need to be honest with ourselves and take the learnings from that. If we take the learnings from that at least we will stand for something. "There was good and bad throughout. We were just a little bit off, I take responsibility for that. "I hope we are better off for that. We will keep building for the Test matches."
