WCL Sanctions Rs2 Crore for Irai River Desilting In Chandrapur

Nagpur: Western Coalfields Limited (WCL), in a major CSR initiative, has sanctioned Rs2 crore for the desilting and cleaning of the Irai river in Chandrapur.
The district administration, Chandrapur, had initiated a mission from April 25 to June 20 to desilt the Irai river stretch from Chandrapur city to its confluence with the Wardha river, aiming to prevent monsoon flooding, improve hygiene, and mitigate serious public health hazards caused by water stagnation and pollution.
WCL, being a key stakeholder in the local ecosystem due to the proximity of its operational mines, responded to the request made by the collector of Chandrapur. Accordingly, on June 9 an MoU for the said work was signed at a ceremony held at Niyojan Bhavan in Chandrapur. The MoU was signed by Harshad Datar, area general manager, Chandrapur Area on behalf of WCL and Vipin Paliwal, commissioner on behalf of the Chandrapur Municipal Corporation.
The event was held in the presence of Chandrapur guardian minister Ashok Janabai Ramaji Uike, Chandrapur MP Pratibha Suresh Dhanorkar, Gadchiroli-Chimur MP Dr Kirsan Namdeo, Leader of Opposition, Maharashtra, Vijay Wadettiwar, collector Vinay Gowda GC, CEO of Zilla Parishad Pulkit Singh, SP Sudarshan Mummaka, KirtiKumar Bhangdiya, Kishore Jorgewar, Subhash Dhote, Karan Sanjay Deotale (MLAs), and Sudhakar Adbale and Abhijit Wanjarri (MLCs).
WCL had previously contributed a total of Rs5.41 crore from its environment fund to support desilting of the same river under similar environmental and public safety concerns.

1 crore lies dormant as govt sits on prepaid auto policy
1 2 Jaipur: The state govt has delayed implementing a policy for pre-paid auto-rickshaw stands for nearly five years. As a result, a nationalised bank in Jaipur has declared the account—meant for managing these stands—dormant due to lack of transactions over an extended period. According to members of auto-rickshaw associations, the account holds around Rs1 crore, collected as a Rs2 service charge from commuters at pre-paid stands. The amount was meant to serve as a benevolent fund for auto drivers and their families but remains untouched in the absence of a clear policy. "It was the Congress govt who introduced the pre-paid auto rickshaw stands in the city way back in 1999, but suddenly, after 21 years, the Congress govt again closed these pre-paid booths, citing there is no pre-paid booth policy in the state. Since then, this bank account is lying unused and was declared dormant by the bank," said Kuldeep Singh, president of an auto rickshaw association in Jaipur. The account was opened in 1999 with the Chaura Rasta branch of a nationalised bank. Two representatives of the transport department and two representatives of the two auto rickshaw associations were the signatories. Third, to utilise the service charge accumulated from these booths for the welfare of the auto drivers and their families. "The fare at these pre-paid booths was on par with the metered fare. Passengers needed to pay a service charge of Rs 2 for pre-paid autos, and this charge remained the same till these booths were withdrawn. For 21 years, a service charge amounting to more than Rs 80 lakhs was collected and deposited in the bank account. We did not utilise a single penny in the 21 years, and now the account has been declared dormant," stated Umrao Quershi, the President of the second auto rickshaw union in Jaipur.

MSRDC to complete land acquisition for key infra projects by year-end
Pune: The state govt will disburse Rs17,000 crore to acquire land linked to major infrastructure projects being implemented by the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) On Thursday, chief minister Devendra Fadnavis held a high-level meeting with senior bureaucrats and MSRDC officials. He directed them to expedite land acquisition across multiple big-ticket projects and ensure no delays occur because of administrative bottlenecks. Nine critical MSRDC-led projects — including expressways and multimodal corridors — were reviewed. The govt aims to complete all land acquisition for listed projects by the end of the year, paving the way for timely execution and seamless infrastructure development across the state. Vice-chairman and managing director of MSRDC Anilkumar Gaikwad told TOI that land acquisition for the Pune Ring Road and the Jalna–Nanded expressway is nearing completion. "For the remaining projects — such as the multimodal Virar–Alibaug expressway, the Shaktipeeth expressway, three major roads in Vidarbha and the Navgaon–Morgaon and Vadhwan–Samruddhi connectors — land measurement is underway. "The CM has made it clear that acquisition delays will escalate project costs and should be avoided," he said. Of the Rs36,000 crore approved — Rs 9,000 crore is allocated to the Pune Ring Road, Rs2,140 crore to Jalna–Nanded expressway and Rs22,000 crore to the Virar–Alibaug multimodal corridor. The CM also stressed the importance of determining the implementation model — whether via Public-Private Partnership or Build-Operate-Transfer — once land acquisition is complete. Land measurement for Shaktipeeth expressway is complete in 86 of the 300 villages involved, with joint measurement expected to finish by Aug. The expressway, dubbed the Golden Triangle, will connect key religious and economic zones across Nagpur, Mumbai and Goa. "It will enhance north-to-east connectivity and function as a pilgrim circuit," said a senior MSRDC official. Fadnavis directed that the Shaktipeeth expressway plan be finalised with minimal impact on forest land. He instructed the finance department to release Rs12,000 crore for land acquisition and ordered the forest department to begin the process of obtaining necessary clearances — particularly for the ecologically sensitive Morbe to Karanja section of the Virar–Alibaug corridor — without delaying parallel administrative work. The CM said the Vadhwan–Igatpuri expressway plan should be finalised. In Vidarbha, plans for the Bhandara–Gadchiroli, Nagpur–Chandrapur and Nagpur–Gondiya expressways are to be finalised on priority. Other key infrastructure projects discussed included the Navegaon (Mor)–Surjagad mineral corridor, as well as the Wardha–Nanded and Vadsa–Gadchiroli railway projects. CJI to inaugurate Preamble Park, perform ground breaking for new NU School of Law on June 28
1 2 Nagpur: Chief Justice of India Bhushan Gavai will inaugurate the historic world-class multi-crore Preamble Park at Nagpur University's Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar School of Law on Amravati Road on June 28. The CJI will also perform the ground-breaking ceremony of a new iconic multi-storeyed building for the School of Law. The CJI will arrive for his three-day visit to Nagpur on June 27. This is his first visit after taking oath of the highest judicial office. On the first day of his tour, the District Bar Association (DBA) will felicitate the CJI, and on June 28, the High Court Bar Association (HCBA) will honour him. CJI Gavai will formally inaugurate the administrative building of MNLU at Waranga at 10.30am on June 29. The Rs10-crore first-of-its-kind Preamble Park consists of replicas of the Supreme Court and Parliament, along with a 7.5 ft statue of Babasaheb Ambedkar, an amphitheatre, murals, and an aesthetic gate, which took several years to complete. The country's first Samvidhan Park or Constitution Preamble Park was planned on the 125th birth anniversary of Babasaheb Ambedkar in 2016, and bhoomipuja was performed by then guardian minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule on the occasion of Constitution Day in 2019. Lack of funds, permissions, and coordination between multiple govt agencies and NU officials delayed the project over the years. The social welfare department funded around Rs2 crore, while social worker Girish Gandhi, former mayor Anil Sole, and former MP Ajay Sancheti, Prakash Gajibhiye contributed Rs5 lakh each for the project. NU also paid Rs2 crore. School of Law director Ravishankar Mor told TOI that the CJI would be inaugurating the Preamble Park as well as laying the foundation of a new iconic building at 11am on June 28. The transformation of the historic college, earlier known as Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Law College, is part of its centenary year celebration. The college has a legacy of stalwarts including former CJI Sharad Bobde, PV Narsimha Rao, CM Devendra Fadnavis and several judges and politicians passing out from here. The NU merged its postgraduate law department with the college to disseminate UG to PhD education under one roof, aligning with NEP 2020. Mor said the new building would be unique among all the Schools of Law in the country. The project is estimated to cost Rs200 crore, with a five-storey academic block to come up on the open land behind the existing college building. Special focus has been given to aesthetics, as the new building will be modelled on structures like the RBI, high court, and GPO. It will have two large auditoriums, besides modern curved classrooms equipped with the latest technology. Three-floor basement parking will accommodate 5,000 cars, while the academic block will have five floors. "A litigation complex will be attached to the School of Law on the lines of a medical college with a hospital. Courts and tribunals like grievance cells and consumer forums will run from this complex. Students will get first-hand experience of court functioning and will be trained for litigating as well as the corporate world," said Mor.
