J&K SIA attaches property of Pakistan-based terrorist in Kupwara
Srinagar: As part of its continuing operation against terrorism, J&K's Special Investigation Agency (SIA) attached the property of a Pakistan-based terrorist in Kupwara district on Monday, officials said.
A statement by SIA said that the attached property belongs to Abdul Hamid Lone, son of Abdul Aziz Lone, resident of Mawar Bala Qalamabad, Handwara, in Kupwara.
"The immovable property attached comprises land bearing Khasra No. 110-min (02 Kanal 03 Marlas) and Khasra No. 115-min (01 Kanal 16 Marlas). The attachment has been made after following due legal process and with proper authorisation from the Hon'ble NIA Court, Kulgam," it said.
It said that the accused, Abdul Hamid Lone, is an absconding terrorist wanted in FIR number 02/2023 of Police Station CIK/SIA Kashmir, for his involvement in multiple offences under Sections 13, 17, 18, 21, 39, 40 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) and Section 120-B of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
"He has been evading arrest to avoid legal proceedings following his active participation in terrorist activities. The property attachment was executed in the presence of an Executive Magistrate, ensuring full compliance with statutory procedures," the SIA statement said.
'This action represents a significant milestone in the continuing investigation into unlawful and anti-national activities in the region. It also reflects the SIA's unwavering commitment to neutralise terrorist threats, safeguard national security, and uphold peace and rule of law in Jammu and Kashmir," the agency said, adding that it, in collaboration with other security and intelligence agencies, remains steadfast in its resolve to take stringent actions against individuals and entities involved in activities that threaten the sovereignty, integrity, and unity of the nation.
The SIA has been investigating some high profile terrorism linked crimes.
It also investigated and subsequently presented a charge sheet in the court against the murder of advocate Babar Qadri, who was killed in his house in Srinagar city by terrorists on September 24, 2020.
The SIA arrested and later charged the High Court Bar Association's former President in Qadri's murder.

CBI raids in Bihar, Jharkhand in Rs 100 crore GST fraud; customs officers in the dock
The CBI on Saturday searched seven locations in Bihar and Jharkhand in connection with a `100-crore scam, allegedly executed by claiming GST through bogus export bills. Five customs officers, including the additional commissioner GST, Patna, have been named in the fraud, officials said. The CBI conducted searches at two locations in Patna, two in Purnea, and one each in Jamshedpur, Nalanda, and Munger, finding seven bars of gold, each weighing 100 grams, they said. The scam was unearthed when an abnormal increase in exports of tiles and automobile parts to Nepal was noticed in Land Customs Stations (LCS) in Jaynagar, Bhimnagar and Bhittamore during 2022-23, officials said. According to the CBI FIR, around 30 exporters have been named in it, having been accused of showing fake export of tiles and automobile spare parts from the three LCS to get tax refund from the GST office. It is alleged that four customs superintendents — Neeraj Kumar and Manmohan Sharma in Jayanagar, and Tarun Kumar Sinha and Rajeev Ranjan Sinha in Bhimnagar — colluded with Additional Commissioner Ranvijay Kumar to extract tax refunds against fake export claims, in return for bribes. All officials, along with 30 suspected exporters, and a Kolkata-based clearing agent, Ganga Singh, have been named in the FIR as accused. The agency has alleged that fake export bills were created for amounts less than `10 lakh, which is the highest amount that a customs superintendent is allowed to clear. The CBI FIR alleged that, in all, fake exports to the tune of `800 crore were shown by these superintendents with goods carrying GST duties of 28% and 18%, two of the higher GST slabs, which enabled them to claim refunds of around `100 crore. The investigation also showed that the firms were not functioning from their registered address. The abnormal increase in exports was allegedly ignored by Ranvijay Kumar, who gave 'oral instructions' to the superintendents to process Let Export Order (LEO) in respect of shipping bills. Besides this, he allegedly used to pass the details of fake exports to be processed at these LCS either directly or through Ganga Singh, the CBI said.

Man arrested for stabbing youth who tried to stop harassment in Delhi's Khajuri Khas
New Delhi [India], June 22 (ANI): A 20-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly stabbing a local resident who intervened to stop him from harassing a girl in Delhi's Khajuri Khas area, police said on Saturday. The incident occurred on Friday afternoon. Police received a call about a stabbing in the area. According to officials, a local youth stepped in after he saw a girl being harassed by the accused. In retaliation, the accused allegedly stabbed the youth and fled the spot. The accused, identified as Chaman, son of Guddu and a resident of E-Block, Sri Ram Colony, was later traced and arrested. A case was registered under Sections 109(1) and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) in connection with the stabbing. Subsequently, based on the girl's complaint, a second case was registered under Section 74 of the BNS and Section 8 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, as one of the complainants was found to be a minor. Police said further investigation is underway in both cases. Earlier, on June 5, two juveniles were apprehended in connection with the stabbing death of a 16-year-old boy in Delhi's Anand Parbat area, police said. On June 2, police received information about a grievously injured and unconscious boy lying near Durga Mandir in Taliwalan Basti. A police team reached the spot immediately. As per the statement, an eyewitness informed the police that while he was returning home with the victim, two unidentified boys approached from behind and stabbed the 16-year-old before fleeing. The victim was rushed to RML Hospital, where he was declared brought dead, police said. Following the incident, an FIR (No. 275/25) was registered under Sections 103(1) and 3(5) of the Indian Penal Code at Police Station Anand Parbat, and the investigation began. According to DCP Nidhin Valsan's statement, the police team analysed CCTV footage from the surrounding areas and developed local intelligence. On June 5, based on credible secret information, two juveniles were apprehended. During questioning, the juveniles admitted to their involvement in the incident, as per the police. Based on their disclosure, a blood-stained knife, believed to be the weapon of offence, was recovered from a park near Jeewan Mala Hospital. (ANI)

Doctor booked for facilitating illegal stay of two Uzbek women, performing plastic surgery without formalities
A case has been registered against a Lucknow-based doctor for allegedly facilitating the illegal stay of two women from Uzbekistan and performing plastic surgery on them without completing the required formalities, police said. The women did not possess valid passports or visas, the police said, claiming they lost the documents two years ago. Besides Dr Vivek Gupta, the police have filed the FIR against Thrijin Raj alias Arjun Rana, a native of Kerala residing in Lucknow on rent, for also allegedly arranging accommodation for the two women. The matter came to light following a tip-off from the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO), Lucknow, after which the police raided a flat and found the two Uzbekistan women staying illegally. Dr Gupta is accused of performing plastic surgery on the women to help alter their identity, allegedly without completing the necessary documentation and legal formalities. An FIR has been lodged against Dr Vivek Gupta and Thrijin Raj alias Arun Rana at the Sushant Golf City police station. The case has been filed under section 318 (4) (cheating) of the BNS. Police also invoked the Foreigners Act against accused, said a police officer. When contacted, Sushant Golf City Station House Officer Upendra Singh said that no arrests have been made in the case so far. According to police, they received a tip-off from the FRRO, Lucknow, on Friday, stating that foreign nationals were staying illegally in a flat without informing the FRRO, local police, or administrative authorities. A police team raided the flat and found two foreign women living there. The women identified themselves as Holida and Nilofar and claimed that their passport and visa documents were lost after they arrived in India. Police have not ruled out the possibility of the foreign nationals being involved in illegal or suspicious activities. When asked to provide a copy of the lost documents, the women claimed they had informed their associate, Lola Kayumova, to file a complaint but had no knowledge of whether she actually did so. They further alleged that Lola, who has been living in India for some time, had facilitated their and others' arrival in the country. They also stated that it was through Lola that they were introduced to Dr. Vivek Gupta, who runs hospitals at two locations and had performed plastic surgery-related procedures on them. The women claimed Lola later introduced them to Arjun Rana, who lives in a separate rented accommodation. They alleged that both Arjun Rana and Dr. Vivek Gupta were responsible for arranging their stay in Lucknow.
