Car catches fire on busy Scots motorway as emergency crews race to scene

Parts of the motorway are closed or restricted due to the incident.
A car has caught fire on a major Scots motorway, leaving part of it closed off.
The horror incident happened just before 12.30pm on Sunday, June 15, on the M8 in Lanarkshire.

The westbound off-slip for junction six at Newhouse has been shut to allow firefighters to extinguish the blaze. One lane of the motorway has also been "restricted" on approach.

Police and paramedics were also dispatched to the scene, but it is not yet known whether anybody has been injured.
Shocking footage shared with our sister title Glasgow Live shows firefighters battling the blaze, with thick grey smoke billowing from the vehicle.
Kimberley Collins, who witnessed the fire, said: "When we were travelling, from Glasgow to Edinburgh, we could see smoke and we weren't sure what side of the motorway it was coming from.
"As we got closer the smoke was getting thicker and the cars were starting to slow down, traffic began to build up.
"Shortly after, two police cars formed a rolling road block on the westbound carriageway where the burning car was. As we continued driving another fire engine and road recovery truck passed us on the westbound carriageway.
"Not every day you see something like that! Hope everyone involved is safe and well done to the emergency services for all their hard work."

Date revealed for when work will finally begin on Llandeilo's bypass scheme Residents have been calling for a bypass for more than half a century The bypass is estimated to cost around £88m (Image: John Myers ) The Welsh Government has indicated when works could begin to build a bypass on the A483. The road improvement project in Llandeilo would see the introduction of a one-way system to improve journey times, increase safety and reduce pollution, it says. Still in its planning states, the government has said it plans to build a new bypass to resolve transport issues in Llandeilo and Ffairfach, creating a one-way system in Rhosmaen Street to make more room for pedestrians, which would make it easier for people to walk and cycle, to access existing bus and rail services, and improve resilience to flooding.
