Did Modi inadvertently confirm Pakistan's S-400 claim?

India's Prime Minister Modi posed in front of an S-400 missile launcher during a visit to the Adampur airbase on Tuesday, a move Indian media framed as a 'fact-check' of Pakistan's claim that it had neutralised two of the advanced systems during Operation Bunyanum Marsoos.
But the photo-op may have inadvertently lent weight to Pakistan's assertion — precisely because of what was missing in the image.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), US-based South Asia expert Christopher Clary noted that while there is still no concrete evidence of Pakistani success against the S-400, Pakistan would be 'at least as likely if not more likely to target the command centre or the radar than they are the launcher' of the air defence system.

In a subsequent post, he shared photos of an S-400 command and control centre destroyed in the Ukraine war, alongside two radar vehicles commonly paired with the system.

The S-400 Triumph, known by NATO as the SA-21 Growler, is a long-range, surface-to-air missile system developed by Russia's Almaz-Antey.
According to a TRT World Research Centre explainer, the system is designed to detect and destroy aircraft, cruise missiles, and ballistic missiles. A 2021 research paper titled 'India's Acquisition of the S-400 Air Defence System', published in the Journal of Indo-Pacific Affairs, states that each S-400 system includes two batteries.
Each battery comprises a command-and-control unit, one surveillance radar, one engagement radar, and four launch trucks referred to as 'transporter–erector–launchers.'

North Korea condemns US strike on Iran as violation of sovereign rights
SEOUL: North Korea said on Monday it strongly condemns the US strikes against Iranian nuclear facilities as a grave violation of a sovereign state's security interests and territorial rights, the North's state media reported. The United States and Israel are the culprits of the current tensions in the Middle East born out of Jerusalem's 'ceaseless war moves and territorial expansion' accepted and encouraged by the West,' North Korea's foreign ministry said. '(North Korea) strongly denounces the attack on Iran by the US which … violently trampled down the territorial integrity and security interests of a sovereign state,' the unnamed spokesperson said in a statement carried by KCNA news agency. 'The just international community should raise the voice of unanimous censure and rejection against the US and Israel's confrontational acts,' the statement said. Iran and nuclear-armed North Korea have maintained friendly ties and have been suspected for decades of military cooperation including in developing ballistic missiles. A now-defunct panel of experts monitoring UN sanctions said in 2021 that the two countries had resumed cooperation on long-range missile development projects, including the transfer of critical parts. 'Pyongyang could provide important assistance in helping Iran reconstitute destroyed missile production facilities, including at new sites to avoid scrutiny, perhaps,' said Ankit Panda, of the US-based Carnegie Endowment for International Peace. Whether either country would be interested in substantively cooperating on any efforts to rebuild or accelerate Iran's nuclear weapons programme is less certain, given the political and military sensitivities over such technology, he said. 'There are certain matters pertaining to weapons design that the North Koreans would not want to proliferate because once in Iran, they could be discovered by the United States and potentially assist the US in undermining its deterrent,' Panda said. Iran weighs retaliation against US for strikes on nuclear sites However, Pyongyang has substantive experience in weaponisation and could be able to assist in the non-fissile components of a nuclear bomb, such as the conventional explosives, he added. North Korea has taken unprecedented steps in the past year to deepen military assistance to Russia, another partner of Iran, by sending thousands of troops as well as ballistic missiles and other weapons for use in fighting Ukraine, according to US, Ukrainian, and other intelligence sources.

National Security Committee to meet today
ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister of Pakistan, Shehbaz Sharif, has convened an important meeting of the National Security Committee (NSC) on Monday (today) at 12 pm at the Prime Minister's House. Trump cuts India down to size
This is apropos a letter to the Editor titled 'India's water belligerence' carried by the newspaper yesterday. In my view the writer is spot on as it is increasingly evident that India's has been trying to overcome the shock that it has received in the four-day conflict at the hands of Pakistan last month. No doubt, the meeting between US President Donald Trump and Pakistan's Field Marshal and army chief Asim Munir has spooked the Indian government so much so that its ministers are now making more irresponsible statements against Pakistan than before. It is important to note that now Pakistan has announced its formal decision to recommend US President Donald Trump for 2026 Nobel Peace Prize, praising his 'decisive diplomatic intervention and pivotal leadership' during the recent four-day war between Pakistan and India. In a statement posted on X, the government highlighted Trump's pivotal role in helping to de-escalate tensions between the two nuclear-armed nations. The post carried the headline: 'Government of Pakistan Recommends President Donald J Trump for 2026 Nobel Peace Prize.' How ironic it is from India's perspective that prime minister Narendra Modi's so-called 'close friend' President Trump is now being assailed by Godi media for inflicting a blow on India's nefarious designs of becoming the regional hegemon.
