New Delhi: External affairs minister S Jaishankar will hold a strategic dialogue with the European Union, look to exchange notes and strengthen bilateral ties with France and boost the economic partnership with Belgium during a week-long visit to Europe starting Sunday.The visit comes after the recent cross-border action against terrorists which escalated into a larger military conflict that ended with precision strikes on Pakistani air bases and military installations before a ceasefire was announced.On the first leg of his visit, the minister will visit France, which is India's strongest partner in Europe. India and France have completed 25 years of strategic partnership and during the visit, the minister will participate in the inaugural edition of the Mediterranean Raisina Dialogue being held in Marseille.Jaishankar will also have bilateral discussions with his counterpart, minister for Europe and foreign affairs of France Jean Noel Barrot, and will engage with the senior leadership of France, besides interacting with think tanks.India and France share a similar outlook on many regional and global issues and the Indian armed forces have relied on cutting edge technology and weapons from French manufacturers. In the recent conflict with Pakistan, the French origin Rafale fighter jet was extensively used to target terror infrastructure and military installations across the border.India is looking to replenish its stocks and is placing orders for additional SCALP missiles that were used to effectively target airbases and terror camps in Pakistan. India will also acquire a number of the Meteor air-to-air missiles , which outmatch the Chinese and American origin equipment used by the Pakistan Air Force. There is a sense of urgency as Operation Sindoor has still not been called off.

The attack came the day after the United States inserted itself into Israel's war by attacking Iranian nuclear sites, prompting fears of a wider regional conflict. Iran said the US had crossed 'a very big red line" with its risky gambit to strike the three sites with missiles and 30,000-pound bunker-buster bombs. In the wake of the American attacks on Iran, calls came from across the globe for de-escalation and the return to diplomacy to try and resolve the conflict. On Monday, the European Union's top diplomat said the bloc remained 'very much focused on the diplomatic solution." 'The concerns of retaliation and this war escalating are huge," EU's foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas said at the start of a foreign ministers' meeting in Brussels, where Iran has jumped to the top of the agenda. 'Especially closing of the Strait of Hormuz by Iran is something that would be extremely dangerous and not good for anybody," Kallas said, referring to a maritime route crucial for oil transport. After Sunday's attacks, Iranian officials repeated their longtime threats of possibly closing the key shipping lane. These include copper, lithium, rare-earth elements, gold, coal, and chromite. Despite its natural wealth, the province remains underdeveloped and politically the centre of attention is the Reko Diq project , one of the largest undeveloped copper and gold deposits globally. Canadian mining company Barrick Gold estimates it holds 7.3 million tonnes of copper and 15 million ounces of gold, with an additional 8.4 million tonnes in inferred copper to media reports and parliamentary comments in Pakistan, the Munir–Trump meeting touched on strategic access to Balochistan's minerals. Shashi Tharoor Calls PM Modi "Prime Asset For India" In New Provocation For Congress
New Delhi: Congress MP Shashi Tharoor - who led the ruling BJP's anti-terrorism diplomatic outreach to the United States, Brazil, and three other nations last month, after Operation Sindoor - has called for more support for Prime Minister Narendra Modi's "energy, dynamism and willingness to engage (with other countries)" and labelled it "a prime asset for India on the global stage". In an article published by The Hindu (paywalled) Monday morning, Mr Tharoor said the outreach - seven cross-party MP delegations visited 32 countries, including the US, the European Union and member nations, Saudi Arabia, and Russia - was "a moment of national resolve and effective communication (and) affirmed that India, when united, can project its voice with clarity and conviction..." He said the delegations explained the "calibrated and measured" nature of India's military response to the Pahalgam terror attack, underscored Pakistan's continued links to terrorism. He specifically referenced the crossover of Indian and Pak delegations in the US and said, "Even as a Pakistani delegation was simultaneously present, we found US representatives... echoing our concerns and urging decisive action against terror groups... our arguments, grounded in facts and consistent advocacy, were reinforcing the legitimacy of India's position." "We consistently highlighted the severity of the threat from across our borders, aiming to build global consensus to hold perpetrators accountable," he wrote, calling the outreach a success. Mr Tharoor was one a dozen opposition leaders who were part of these delegations; the list included high-profile figures like Mr Tharoor and others from the Congress, as well as AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi, the Shiv Sena (UBT)'s Priyanka Chaturvedi, the DMK's Kanimozhi. The Thiruvananthapuram MP's selection increased friction between himself and his party; the two already have a frosty relationship over several issues, including continuing positive words for the PM. That friction has led to talk of a blockbuster political switch, i.e., the four-time Lok Sabha MP, who was also a former top United Nations official and a former External Affairs Minister, was preparing to jump from the Congress to Mr Modi's side. In fact, after news of his appointment to lead the US-bound delegation, arguably the most important of the seven, sections of the Congress called him a 'super spokesperson' for the BJP's 'publicity stunts' and accused of flattering Prime Minister Modi. However, Mr Tharoor has repeatedly dismissed talk of a switch, insisting he could not swap the Congress for the BJP. Speaking to NDTV last week he again played down any friction with the party, calling such incidents "differences of opinion... with only some elements of leadership". When NDTV asked him how he would define his relationship with the Congress today, Mr Tharoor pointed out he had been loyal to the party and its ideology for the last 16 years.
