Plea to develop Rajahmundry as a beacon of knowledge

Rajamahendravaram: Rajahmundry Rural MLA Gorantla Butchaiah Chowdary met Minister Nara Lokeshin Amaravati and appealed to him to transform the historic city of Rajamahendravaram, known as the cradle of Telugu culture and traditions, into a beacon of knowledge and excellence.
During an hour-long discussion, Butchaiah explained the need to restore the Potti Sreeramulu Telugu University, often regarded as the brainchild of the late NT Rama Rao, to its past glory. He requested the minister to allocate the necessary funds to improve the academic standards and vocational skill development for students in the region.
He also brought to Lokesh's attention the urgent need to modernise drainage systems at various junctions in both Rural and City limits of Rajahmundry. Special mention was made of the Rs 3 crore pumping house project currently progressing rapidly near Sai Baba temple in Dowleswaram.
As a token of the massive public response received during the 'Yuvagalam Padayatra', Nara Lokesh presented a souvenir featuring photo highlights of the campaign to Butchaiah Chowdary. The minister reportedly stated that the Coalition Government is committed to transforming Rajamahendravaram into a spectacular venue for the upcoming 2027 Godavari Pushkaralu, ensuring it becomes a model of cultural and infrastructural excellence.
Lokesh also assured that efforts will be intensified to establish new universities and skill development centres to lay a strong foundation for the future of students. Expressing his joy, Butchaiah shared that Lokesh affectionately greeted him as 'Taata' (Grandpa), reflecting their warm camaraderie.

Bengaluru: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) Monday questioned former Bangalore Rural MP DK Suresh, brother of deputy chief minister DK Shivakumar, for nearly seven hours in connection with a money laundering case involving Aishwarya Gowda . Emerging from ED's office around 6pm, Suresh told reporters that officials had sought details regarding Aishwarya, who is under investigation for duping individuals by allegedly misusing his name. "They asked me about the ongoing money laundering case involving Aishwarya and others. I clarified that Aishwarya falsely claimed to be my sister and misused my name. I had no financial dealings with her," Suresh said. "She collected money from people using my name. Except for once attending a Rajyotsava event she organised, I had no other association with her. I've already filed a police complaint against her," he added. He has been asked to appear again on July 7, Suresh said, adding he would fully cooperate. The former MP had been summoned by ED on June 19 but he requested a rescheduled appearance citing prior commitments. The assets include Rs 2 crore in immovable properties and Rs 1.9 crore in movable assets. Aishwarya was arrested in April this year after several FIRs were registered against her and her husband Harish KN across multiple police stations in Karnataka. An ED press release stated that the duo, along with others, allegedly lured victims by promising high returns on investments. They, however, failed to return the money or deliver the promised returns and reportedly issued threats when questioned — citing Aishwarya's purported connections with senior politicians.

DRDO offers 28 indigenous weapon systems to Army for emergency procurement

The Defence Research and Development Organisation has offered 28 of its designed and developed weapon systems to the three services for emergency procurement. This comes at a time when the indigenous weapons performed well during India's military retaliation, Operation Sindoor, against the Pahalgam terror attack. The Defence Forces have been allowed to buy new weapons and replenish the stocks of existing weapons by the Centre under the emergency procurement powers. Under these powers, they can buy hardware up to Rs 300 crore for a single product. "The premier defence research agency has submitted the list to the defence ministry and includes rockets, air-to-air missiles, air-to-ground missiles, laser-guided bombs, torpedoes, shoulder-fired air defence and anti-tank missiles, helicopter-launched and ground-launched Nag missiles, Rudram anti-radiation missiles, Naval anti-ship missiles and grenades," defence officials told ANI. "The long list of weapon systems provided by the DRDO also lists the vendors who produce them and the number that the defence forces can procure in the next six months to one year," the sources said. The DRDO has also listed the names of the Production agencies for its various products from which the forces can source these items. For example, the Pinaka rockets can be acquired from Solar Defence and Aerodpace Limited, while Bharat Dynamics Limited is the source for multiple pieces of equipment in the list. The forces have also been offered the Man-Portable Anti-Tank Guided Missiles, Very Short-Range Air Defence System, Smart Anti-Airfield Weapons, long-range Glide Bomb, and Advanced Light-Weight Torpedo, along with ammunition for the 155 mm artillery guns. The forces have been given the option to order from a list of 28 different pieces of equipment, including 14 for the Indian Army, 8 for the Indian Navy, and 6 for the Indian Air Force. The Indian Air Force is also acquiring the SAAW smart ammunition as part of a proposal being considered by the Defence Ministry, which is likely to come up for discussion soon. The DRDO has been the main developer of weapons in the Indian system, and its BrahMos supersonic cruise missiles, MRSAM air-edge fence missile systems, and Akash air-edge fence systems have performed very well in defeating Pakistani attacks during Op Sindoor. The DRDO contribution or the offer of weapon systems readily available for the forces to use within one year is much higher than what was offered during the conflict with China, when not many systems were ready to be offered to the forces.
