The Naked Gun Reboot: All We Know About Liam Neeson's Comedy Comeback Including Release Date, Cast, Plot and More
Paramount is bringing back the classic The Naked Gun franchise with a new installment, set to release in theaters on August 1, 2025. This reboot is being described as a 'legacy sequel' and features Liam Neeson as Frank Drebin Jr., the son of Leslie Nielsen's original character from the earlier films.
Directed by Akiva Schaffer (SNL, Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping) and produced by Seth MacFarlane (Family Guy, Ted), the new film brings a fresh take on the spoof-comedy legacy that began in 1988.
Alongside Neeson, the cast features Pamela Anderson as a mysterious femme fatale named Beth, and Paul Walter Hauser as Captain Ed Hocken Jr., the son of George Kennedy's character from the original films. The ensemble also includes Kevin Durand, Danny Huston, Liza Koshy, Cody Rhodes, CCH Pounder, Busta Rhymes, and Eddy Yu.
Here's what the new trailer reveals
Paramount dropped the new The Naked Gun trailer on June 16. Liam Neeson's version of Drebin appears to embrace slapstick comedy while poking fun at his famous 'particular set of skills' from the Taken films.
In one scene, Drebin says, "Once you kill a man for revenge, there's no going back," before using ripped-off arms as weapons. He follows that up with a voiceover: "That was awesome."
We also see emotional nods to the franchise's legacy as Frank and Ed Jr. stand in front of commemorative plaques honoring their fathers. In one classic joke, Drebin interrogates a suspect who served 20 years for 'man's laughter,' only to be corrected that it was 'manslaughter.' Drebin replies: "Must have been quite the joke."
In this new story, Frank Drebin Jr. is a top officer in the elite Police Squad. He's pulled into action when Beth's brother is murdered, and the squad's future is on the line. If Drebin fails to solve the case, the department will be shut down. Of course, the absurd humor remains intact, with Drebin even commandeering a coffee shop restroom for 'police business.'
The original The Naked Gun: From the Files of Police Squad! released in 1988 and was followed by two sequels: The Smell of Fear (1991) and The Final Insult (1994). A reboot was first announced in 2013 with Ed Helms, but it never moved forward. Director David Zucker, who helmed the original films, declined involvement, saying it would only be inferior.
While he was briefly part of a 2017 rewrite, that version also stalled. Zucker isn't involved in the current project and told TMZ he regretted watching the teaser, saying, "I can't unsee it."

Brad Pitt Is Open To Working With Tom Cruise, But There Is One Condition
Last Updated: Brad Pitt made it clear that he would not be taking on roles that require him to pull off sky-high stunts. Brad Pitt, who is eyeing the release of his sports-drama F1: The Movie, has opened up on the possibility of sharing the screen space again with Tom Cruise. They were seen together in the 1994 film Interview with the Vampire. In an interview, Pitt said he would love to work with Tom Cruise, but on one condition. Any guesses? No sky-high stunts, please. We get it, Brad Pitt, we get it. In a chat with E! News, Brad Pitt shared, 'I'm not gonna hang my a** off the airplane and s**t like that." Pitt, currently busy with the promotion F1 racing film, talked about his reunion with Cruise. The actor stated he will consider working with Mission: Impossible star 'when he does something again that's on the ground." In the same chat, Pitt went on to talk about some of the unusual habits he developed while working on F1. 'Before getting in the car, I always have to get in on the left side," he said. Pitt added, 'I have to put my left shoe on first, I'd have to put my left glove on first." Talking about Tom Cruise, the actor is well-known for pulling off heart-stopping stunts in his films. In the Mission: Impossible series, he was seen skydiving, flying helicopters, scaling skyscrapers and jumping off a cliff. Earlier, Pitt and Cruise collaborated for the 1994 film, titled Interview with the Vampire. The gothic cult classic saw a rivalry between the two, which even reached the tracks. 'We raced go-karts. He got me in the end. I gotta admit," Pitt recalled. Meanwhile, earlier this year at a Paramount event, Tom Cruise lauded Brad Pitt's driving skills, especially given his upcoming F1 film. F1: The Movie has been directed by Joseph Kosinski. Formula 1 champion and British driver Lewis Hamilton has backed the movie. It will release on June 27. Damson Idris, Javier Bardem and Kerry Condon are also part of the film. First Published:

Did Dexter get taken off Netflix? Here's where to watch the series
Dexter, the beloved crime drama series, is set to leave Netflix on June 19, according to multiple media reports. The show made a surprising return on the platform last year. However, due to its license expiring, there is no update on whether the streaming giant will be able to hold on to the show any longer. The show's plot follows a serial killer who takes it upon himself to track down and kill those whom he sees as having escaped the US justice system. It first aired on Showtime from 2006 to 2013 and came on Netflix two years after it went off cable. Although the earlier seasons were a huge success, the IMDb ratings for the show took a sharp decline towards the latter half. Dexter first came to Netflix in 2015 and stayed on until 2020, when it was abruptly taken down after its license expired. However, it gradually returned to the platform in specific regions in 2024 and made its way to Netflix US on July 19, 2024. Despite raking up an impressive 1.01 billion viewing hours since its re-release, the show will no longer be available on the platform starting June 19 of this year. Although Dexter is leaving Netflix, fans will still be able to stream all eight seasons of the slasher series on Paramount+ with Showtime, which is available for $12.99/month. As Netflix's rival is the original home of Dexter, spin-offs Dexter: New Blood and Dexter: Original Sin are available for streaming on the platform. Additionally, the series' sequel, titled Dexter: Resurrection, will also be available for streaming on Paramount+ with Showtime on July 11. According to Just Watch, viewers can also stream individual episodes of the show on Apple TV for $2.99 per episode. Meanwhile, Netflix UK and Canada will keep the show until March 31, 2026, per What's on Netflix.
