Haftar Inaugurates Military City as Foundation for Libya's Army Reform
On Wednesday, Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar, Commander of the Libyan National Army (LNA), affirmed that the newly inaugurated 'Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar Military City' represents a significant leap in Libya's military development, emphasizing its role as a cornerstone in building a modern, professional armed force.
Haftar made these remarks during a high-level visit to the military city, located in eastern Libya, alongside House of Representatives Speaker Ageela Saleh, Libyan Government-designate Prime Minister Osama Hammad, and senior military officials.
The inspection tour took place on the sidelines of a major military parade marking the 11th anniversary of Operation Dignity (Al Karama).
According to the General Command's media office, the delegation toured multiple facilities, including advanced training centers, accommodation units, command buildings, and logistics hubs. The complex has been equipped with state-of-the-art systems and infrastructure designed to meet international military standards and support the long-term development of Libya's armed forces.
Haftar praised Lieutenant General Khaled Haftar, Chief of Staff for Security Units, for his key role in overseeing the planning, execution, and supervision of the project. He emphasized that the outcome reflects a clear vision for a disciplined, well-trained army capable of protecting Libya's sovereignty and stability.
'This military city is not just a set of buildings; it is a message of our determination to build a unified, capable national force,' said Haftar. 'It is a model of organization and ambition, and it represents the future of Libya's defense strategy.'
The city includes specialized centers for combat training, tactical simulations, medical services, and intensive military education, making it one of the most advanced facilities of its kind in the country.
Haftar added that the military city aligns with his broader strategy to rebuild Libya's armed forces on solid institutional foundations, emphasizing professionalism, operational readiness, and advanced technical capabilities. Tags: benghazikhalifa haftarlibyaLibyan armyMilitary City

Libya's Interior Ministry Reports Armed Attack on Security Forces in Tripoli
On Saturday, the Ministry of Interior under Libya's outgoing Government of National Unity confirmed that security forces were targeted in an armed assault in the Jannat Al-Areef area of Tripoli. According to an official statement, the ministry said that the attack was carried out by a group described as 'infiltrators,' who also used fireworks to incite chaos and damage public property. The ministry condemned the incident, labeling it a criminal act aimed at undermining public order and destabilizing the capital during a period of heightened political tension. It stated that all necessary efforts will be made to apprehend those responsible and ensure they are prosecuted under the law. Authorities reported that no civilians were harmed during the attack, but the ministry stressed the seriousness of the offense, given that it targeted state personnel and attempted to provoke disorder in a public area. In the same statement, the Interior Ministry reaffirmed its full commitment to protecting the right to peaceful protest. Officials emphasized that demonstrations remain a legitimate right guaranteed by Libyan law, provided they are carried out in accordance with legal procedures and in a manner that respects public safety and order. The ministry also announced the launch of an active investigation and confirmed that it is pursuing the individuals involved in the incident, describing the response as firm and comprehensive. This latest development comes amid a series of public demonstrations in Tripoli and other cities, where protesters have voiced growing frustration over deteriorating services, political deadlock, and ongoing security concerns. While most protests have remained peaceful, recent weeks have seen a rise in isolated incidents of violence and unrest. The ministry concluded by calling on all citizens to cooperate with law enforcement and avoid participating in actions that could endanger public safety or derail the country's path toward stability. Berlin Conference Reaffirms Support for Libyan-Led Political Process
The International Follow-up Committee on Libya convened a high-level meeting in Berlin on Friday to assess the country's fragile political and security situation. Co-chaired by the UN's Special Representative for Libya, Hanna Tetteh, and German Special Envoy to Libya, Christian Buck, the meeting brought together key regional and international actors committed to supporting peace and stability in Libya. In their joint statement, participants reiterated full support for a Libyan-led political process under United Nations auspices. They reaffirmed their respect for Libya's sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity, and firmly rejected any foreign interference that could derail the path toward peace. The committee expressed growing concern over the stalled implementation of the 2020 ceasefire agreement and the deepening institutional and political divide. Delegates warned that continued delays in the political process, deteriorating public services, and the absence of unified governance threaten to undermine long-term stability. The recent escalation of violence in Tripoli, which claimed civilian lives, was strongly condemned. Participants called for an immediate end to the use of force in political disputes and urged all parties to respect international humanitarian law. The formation of two key committees, one focused on ceasefire monitoring and the other on security arrangements, was welcomed as a step in the right direction. The committee also praised the African Union's engagement in supporting Libya's national reconciliation efforts and emphasized the importance of holding accountable those who obstruct political progress. Looking ahead, the committee committed to regular follow-up meetings and the reactivation of the four international working groups focused on political dialogue, security reform, economic recovery, and electoral preparation. The shared goal remains a unified political process leading to free, fair, and inclusive national elections. Tags: BerlinConferencelibyaPolitical ProcessStability

123 Bangladeshi Migrants Repatriated from Libya
The Embassy of Bangladesh in Libya has successfully facilitated the safe repatriation of 123 distressed Bangladeshi migrants from Tripoli, in cooperation with the International Organization for Migration (IOM). The initiative is part of the embassy's continued efforts to support nationals stranded in Libya. A farewell ceremony was held at the embassy premises, attended by Mr Kazi Asif Ahmed, Chargé d'Affaires and Minister (Political), along with First Secretary (Labour) and other officials. The officials briefed the migrants on the embassy's procedures to ensure their safe return. The repatriation was carried out via a special Burak Air flight (Flight No: UZ222) chartered by the IOM. The flight departed from Tripoli's Mitiga International Airport at 6:25 PM on 18 June 2025 and is scheduled to land at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka at approximately 9:30 AM on 19 June 2025. Among the repatriated migrants, 23 were reported to be in poor health. Most had been staying irregularly in Tripoli and surrounding cities without valid documentation or visas. Securing exit permits for the migrants posed a significant challenge, as many lacked passports or legal residency. However, under the leadership of the Honourable Ambassador, embassy officials held several meetings with Libya's Ministry of Interior and Immigration Department to obtain necessary approvals. The embassy extended its best wishes to the returnees for a safe journey and full recovery. Officials reaffirmed their commitment to assisting Bangladeshi nationals in Libya and continuing cooperation with Libyan authorities and international partners.
