Rubbing shoulders with the enemy! Lucy Bronze enjoys holiday with Spain star Ona Batlle - who was part of the team who inflicted World Cup heartache - ahead of women's Euros
Lionesses star Lucy Bronze has taken a well earned rest ahead of the women's Euros alongside Spain rival Ona Batlle.
Bronze, 33, who plies her trade for Chelsea, is currently preparing for this summer's European Championships where she may come up against Batlle.
The pair were team-mates in the 2023-24 season when they were at Barcelona having previously been rivals after Spain beat England in the World Cup final in 2023.
Between 2020 and 2022 Bronze and Batlle also played in Manchester for City and United respectively.
Last week, Bronze and Batlle shared photos from their trip on their respective social media profiles.
It appeared the duo were celebrating Batlle's birthday, with the Spaniard's caption reading: 'Bday week.'
Bronze and Batlle enjoyed a hugely successful season at Barcelona together back in 2023-24
The location is unclear, but within the selection of pictures, Bronze and Batlle posed together and looked to be enjoying their trip.
In one photo, it appeared they were having an ice cream in the sun, while another saw them relaxing on a lilo together in the sea.
In a further snap on Bronze's post, they took a boat trip and they also spent some time in a private pool. Bronze and Batlle similarly shared a photo together in a mirror.
Meanwhile, during their sole season together at Barcelona, the Catalan giants enjoyed a historic campaign.
As team-mates, Batlle and Bronze won the Champions League, Liga F, the Spanish Cup and Spanish Super Cup before the right back moved to Chelsea last summer.
Elsewhere, back in 2023 after Spain beat England in the World Cup final, Batlle famously consoled a tearful Bronze after full-time.
Following their holiday, Bronze has since linked up with England ahead of this summer's tournament in Switzerland.
The right back, who will play at her seventh major tournament, is a Lionesses legend and is one of 13 players in Sarina Wiegman's 23-strong group that won the Euros in 2022.
However, Wiegman has been hit by several blows ahead of England's opening clash against France on July 5.
Mary Earps and Fran Kirby have both retired from international football, while Millie Bright also made herself unavailable for selection, saying she is unable to give '100 per cent mentally or physically'.
Nevertheless, Wiegman defended England's build-up to the tournament and revealed why she thinks the Lionesses aren't in crisis.
'That is not the case,' she insisted earlier this month. 'We know what is happening in the team. I think – and hope – there is competition going on in the team.
'I feel very comfortable. I'm very happy with the team and I'm very excited and I'm looking forward to it. For me, it doesn't feel like a crisis at all.'
The Lionesses face Jamaica in a warm-up game this Sunday, before they take on France, the Netherlands and Wales in their group.
Meanwhile, Spain are in Group B alongside Belgium, Italy and Portugal.

Chelsea set Noni Madueke price tag as Arsenal open talks to sign England winger
Arsenal have learnt how much it will cost to sign Chelsea star Noni Madueke having opened talks with their arch-rivals over a transfer. After falling short in the Premier League title race for the third season in a row, Mikel Arteta is very keen on bolstering his attack this summer. A new striker is the priority but a transfer for top target Benjamin Sesko is proving hard to complete with Arsenal's latest offer just short of the RB Leipzig star's £64million release clause. The Gunners also want to bring in another wide player and have already missed out on long-time target Nico Williams who looks set to join Barcelona. In the last few days, Madueke has emerged as a surprising name on their shortlist after enjoying a good season at Chelsea, recording 16 goal contributions in 41 games and winning the Conference League title. Wake up to find news on your club in your inbox every morning with Metro's Football Newsletter. Sign up to our newsletter and then select your team in the link we'll send you so we can get football news tailored to you. The 23-year-old also made his England debut and appears to be key member of Thomas Tuchel's squad going forward. It would seem strange for Enzo Maresca to sell Madueke, especially given that he is short on wide options, yet he is one of 15 players the club have put on the transfer list. According to the Independent, Arsenal's interest has grown as they have spoken to their London rivals about a deal for the player who previously spent four years in Tottenham's academy. And the Blues have named their price, wanting £50million for the forward who cost £30m from PSV in January 2023. More Trending While this is cheaper than alternative targets like Real Madrid's Rodrygo and Newcastle's Anthony Gordon, Arsenal have baulked at the price tag and have cooled their interest for now. Appearances: 89 Goals: 20 Assists: 9 Trophies: Conference League But it is said that this transfer saga is far from over and the Gunners may yet make another move for Madueke before the end of the summer transfer window. Whilst fierce rivals, many players have moved between Arsenal and Chelsea in the Premier League era, with Kepa Arrizabalaga set to switch Stamford Bridge for the Emirates very soon. For now, Madueke is at the Club World Cup and could next play on Wednesday when the Blues take on ES Tunis. For more stories like this, check our sport page. Tyson Fury and Tom Aspinall have strong relationship and previously sparred
Tyson Fury is delighted with Tom Aspinall 's elevation to undisputed UFC heavyweight champion following Jon Jones ' retirement. 'Get up [there], my boy!', said the Gypsy King on his Instagram story in reaction to 'Bones' calling it a day and therefore elevating Aspinall. Fury has sparred with Aspinall years ago and the pair maintain a strong mutual respect. Back in 2022, Aspinall spoke about Fury's influence on him, saying: 'I think Tyson Fury's helped me the most mentally. Obviously, I improved a lot. My skill set improved, my boxing improved, definitely. 'It brought me a long way skill-wise. But more so mentally. If Tyson Fury ever gets a watch of this, 'Thank you.' I've never actually had the chance to thank him for it. 'He has completely changed my career and the outlook of what I've got on combat and fighting. He added: 'Without him I wouldn't be where I am right now because my mentality's changed completely since I trained with him. It was quite a long time ago now, I was in my early 20s, I wasn't sure if I wanted to carry on with this sport or box or maybe stop fighting altogether. 'I didn't know what I wanted to do and yeah, he just completely changed my whole outlook on everything so I appreciate it.' Jones chose not to fight Aspinall in what would have been the biggest pay-per-view of the year, leading to accusations that he was ducking the Brit. Aspinall has been dominant in the octagon and won every fight in the UFC by finish, barring a defeat by Curtis Blaydes due to a knee injury. A day after Jones announced his retirement, it emerged he is facing a misdemeanour charge of fleeing the scene of an accident. A criminal summons accusing Jones of the charge was filed in Albuquerque Metropolitan Court Tuesday. Jones has been called to appear in court on July 24 for a bond arraignment. His lawyer said he was stunned by the charge and believes the police are wrongly targeting his client. A police officer was said to be investigating a road accident on February 21 when they discovered a woman in the passenger seat of one of the vehicles, according to a police report obtained by Mail Sport. The woman was reportedly 'exhibiting signs of significant intoxication and lacking clothing from the waist down.' Dana White said he had no idea whether Jones' retirement was connected to the legal troubles. Interestingly, when Fury was previously asked about whether Aspinall would beat Jones, he said: ''Jon Jones is the Tyson Fury of boxing. People are unable to beat him. Very tough one. 'Even though Tom Aspinall's a mate, Jon Jones is probably considered the greatest of all time in MMA, so I don't know. 'It's probably like, can anyone beat Vladimir Klitschko before Tyson Fury beat him? Probably not, but then Tyson Fury beat him. So if anyone can beat Jon Jones, it'll be Tom Aspinall. Nobody else.'

Wrexham striker Paul Mullin sends heartfelt 14-word message to fans after agreeing to join League One side on season-long loan
Wrexham striker Paul Mullin has agreed to join Wigan Athletic on a season-long loan. The 30-year-old, who joined Wrexham in 2021 and helped the club achieve back-to-back promotions, fell out of favour at the Racecourse Ground last term. The Red Dragons were promoted once again at the end of last season after finishing second in League One but Mullin contributed just three goals and featured in 26 games. He was not involved past January after a reported disagreement with manager Phil Parkinson. The January signings of Sam Smith and Jay Rodriguez saw Mullin increasingly marginalised. Mullin took to social media after the move was confirmed by Wrexham on Monday and urged everyone at the club to continue their startling rise up the English football pyramid. A caption over an image of a jersey commemorating his 100th goal for the Welsh club read: 'All the very best to everyone at Wrexham this season keep the train rolling.' Mullin took to social media on Monday and urged everyone at the club to continue their startling rise up the English football pyramid In a statement on the club's website, Parkinson said: 'I'd like to wish Paul all the best for his loan move. 'It's a good opportunity for him to get back to playing regular first-team football and I'm sure he's going to be a great signing for Wigan Athletic.' Wrexham's signing of Plymouth Argyle forward Ryan Hardie last week placed further question marks over his future.
