Parents of baby decapitated during birth horrified as graphic photos published
Jessica Ross and Treveon Taylor Sr. filed a lawsuit against a pathologist who posted footage of their son's decapitated body on Instagram, and the couple has now been awarded millions
The parents of a baby who was decapitated during childbirth have been awarded $2.25million after a doctor posted graphic footage of their son's autopsy on social media.
Jessica Ross was due to give birth to her first child on July 10, 2023, but the baby got stuck behind her pelvic bone after being in labour for hours. Ms Ross and her partner Treveon Taylor Sr. did not get to see their son (whom they named Treveon Isaiah Taylor Jr) and doctors and nurses did not tell them the child's head had been severed during efforts to deliver him, according to court documents. The couple then hired a pathologist to carry out an autopsy - but he posted a graphic video of the child's body online.
Ms Ross hired pathologist Dr. Jackson Gates after a funeral home told the couple about the condition of his body. Gates posted a video of the child's dead body on his Instagram showing "graphic and grisly detail of postmortem examination" and his "decapitated, severed head", according to the couple's lawyers.
The pathologist deleted this video but posted two more of the autopsy just a few days later and all of these videos were uploaded without the couple's consent, according to their complaint. A lawyer for the couple, Cory Lynch, told Fox 5 Atlanta: "For him to post these images and videos without permission was insane to us.
"And especially with the nature of the posts... of the grisly details of the autopsy examination and also pictures of the child's head. It was baffling that he would do something like that."
Ms Ross and Mr Taylor filed a lawsuit in September 2023 against Dr. Gates and Gates Rapid Diagnostic Laboratory of Atlanta. Dr. Gates did not respond to the lawsuit so this left the State Court in Fulton County, Georgia, to decide.
Dr. Gates' lawyer Ira Livnat, who was hired after the court's decision, claimed this meant the case ended in favour of the couple, saying: "The plaintiffs got the absolute best case." The jury, on Wednesday, awarded Ms Ross and Mr Taylor $2.25million (£1.6million).
The couple's attorney in a statement said: "While we are pleased that a jury punished Dr. Jackson Gates for his reprehensible behavior, nothing can ease the pain that the parents, Jessica Ross and Treveon Isaiah Taylor Sr., have experienced in losing their baby boy in such a horrific way."
"After the decapitation of their baby, Gates poured salt into the couple's already deep wounds when he betrayed them.
"This young couple trusted him with the remains of their precious baby. Gates, in turn, repaid this trust by posting horrific images of their child for the world to see."
Dr. Gates' attorney said he "deeply, deeply regrets any harm" but in a Facebook post, that has since been deleted, the pathologist called the outcome "a complete miscarriage of justice" adding that he intended to file an appeal. Gates said he still pots autopsies on social media, according to Atlanta News First.

Pervert teaching assistant cries 'no' as he's arrested over sick videos of schoolgirls
Keiron Pickett, 24, had six videos stored on his iPhone, along with a collection of indecent images and disturbing notes about his students. A teaching assistant was caught filming a series of vile videos at the school where he worked, secretly recording up the skirts of Year 7 girls. Perverted Keiron Pickett had six such videos stored on his iPhone, along with a collection of indecent images and disturbing notes about his students. When officers arrived at the 24-year-old's home to arrest him, he cried "F***, no, no, no" and threatened to kill himself. Pickett's crimes were uncovered after Instagram flagged his "SniffSmoke0151" account and reported it to Merseyside Police on September 9, 2024. As reported by the Echo, Pickett, of Withington Road in Speke, Liverpool, had been linked to the account through his email address. On Friday, Prosecutor Cheryl Mottram told the city's Crown Court that his behaviour quickly "became more erratic," and he had to be handcuffed after making threats to kill himself. He did, however, hand over the password to his iPhone. Inside the device, officers uncovered 62 indecent images and one video in category A - the most extreme classification of abuse - along with 28 images and one video in category B, and 192 category C images. In addition to the six upskirting clips, Pickett had also saved a number of handwritten notes on the phone, which his own legal team described as 'fantasy letters' about his young pupils. He had also carried out several disturbing searches on TikTok related to children. The teaching assistant broke down in tears as he was locked up yesterday. Pickett, who has no previous convictions, was employed at the school in question via an agency between September 2023 and January 2024. Charles Lander, defending, told the court that his client had since completed a series of courses aimed at rehabilitating sex offenders, adding: "It is clear that he will find benefit in this. "He makes candid admissions. The realisation of what has happened to him would be difficult for anyone facing their first custodial sentence, but it is often more difficult for individuals with this kind of offending. He has got his head down. Your honour will have read about the death of his father and issues in his background during his childhood. But, ultimately, he engaged in the behaviour he did." Pickett admitted operating equipment under clothing without consent, taking indecent images of children, five counts of making indecent images and possession of cannabis. Appearing via video link to HMP Liverpool wearing a grey Under Armour t-shirt, he was seen wiping tears away before nodding as he was jailed for 20 months. Sentencing, Recorder Mark Ainsworth said: "You were employed as a teaching assistant. Plainly, that is a position of trust for two reasons. The students you were teaching were children, and, also, they had complex learning needs. In both ways, they could be regarded as vulnerable. "You were arrested. Your initial response was to panic. You were visibly distressed, and well you might have been, given that you knew what the police were about to discover. "Needless to say, behind each and every image was a child being sexually abused, some of those images showing the most serious forms of sexual abuse. These images do not show a victimless crime, far from it. The assumption has to be made that, if it was not for people like yourself providing a marketplace for such images, that abuse would not take place. "They were but part of what was discovered by the police. It is clear that, not only had you been downloading indecent images of children from the internet, you had been taking indecent photographs of children yourself. You had been abusing your position of trust at the school to take photographs of the very children you were there to look after and educate. "The notes you made at this time demonstrate what was going through your mind. I hope that you do not need me to tell you how abhorrent this sort of conduct is regarded by society." Pickett was also handed a 10-year sexual harm prevention order. He will be required to sign the sex offenders' register for the next decade.

Putin sends his own dead soldiers to Ukraine in 'disdain for fallen troops'
Volodymyr Zelensky has said Russia repatriated at least 20 of its own dead soldiers in recent exchanges with Ukraine - 'they threw the corpses of their citizens at us,' he said Vladimir Putin's Russia has been handing over its own deceased troops to Ukraine, President Volodymyr Zelensky has said. Zelensky said the bodies of 20 Russian soldiers had been received. The exchange had been agreed in the early June talks between Ukraine and Russia. It saw Ukraine receive the bodies of 6,057 of its soldiers, while Russia said 6,060 bodies had been transferred to Ukraine and that the remains of 78 of its own soldiers were repatriated. It is not clear why there is such a large difference between the number of exchanged bodies, but Russia may have been able to recover its own dead following small territorial gains. The process was monitored by members of the Red Cross. "It has already been confirmed during repatriations that the bodies of 20 people handed over to us as our deceased soldiers are Russian," Zelensky said, describing it as a result of Moscow's disorganisation in carrying out large swaps of wounded POWs and remains of troops.. He said the Russian side insisted the dead were all Ukrainians, adding "Sometimes these bodies even have Russian passports". 'They threw the corpses of their citizens at us. This is their attitude toward war, toward their soldiers. And this is already documented. Sometimes these bodies even have Russian passports,' he said. One of the bodies is an ' Israeli mercenary' fighting for Russia, Zelensky said. It comes after Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko said the body of a Russian soldier being handed to Ukraine showed how Russia "treats its people with contempt". Mr Klymenko said that one of the bodies, labelled 'No. 192/25', was identified as Alexander Viktorovich Bugaev. Bugaev, born in 1974, was carrying a Russian passport and was dressed in a Russian military uniform. Officials also found a military ID that said he had served in the 1st Battalion of the 39th Separate Guards Motorized Rifle Brigade, the Kyiv Independent reported. 'This is yet another proof of how Russia treats its people with contempt, throwing their bodies onto the bodies of Ukrainian soldiers," Klymenko said. He said that Bugaev's family had been searching for him for months. The minister also said that Russia had located his remains after he went missing amid fighting close to the village of Novomykhailivka in Donetsk, but they chose to 'dump' his body. "This shows how little human life means to Russia,' said Klymenko. 'Or maybe it's just a way to avoid paying compensation to the families. But they will have to pay anyway: we are returning these bodies." As the was continues to rage in Ukraine, a total of 77 combat clashes between the two sides were recorded today, according to an update from the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in a Facebook post.
