In a promising move to re-energize Edmonton's city core, designer and entrepreneur Lauren Kyle McDavid' Bar Trove—her much-anticipated new venture inside the iconic Canada Permanent building.
The downtown spot, which combines a cocktail bar, furniture showroom, and curated office space, is slated to opened on mid-May 2025 and is already drawing significant buzz thanks to Kyle McDavid's star power and thoughtful vision.

Speaking to CTV News Edmonton in early April, Kyle McDavid shared insights on the creative and logistical challenges of transforming the heritage-listed 1910 building on 100 Street, just north of Jasper Avenue.
Her mission? To breathe new life into the space while respecting its legacy.
'There are hoops to go around with the historic committee, signage, putting in HVAC,' she said. 'All of those are interesting hoops to run through, but really, the biggest thing for us is just keeping the historic feel while making it feel fresh and new.'
That balance between old and new lies at the heart of Bar Trove's identity. Kyle McDavid envisions the establishment not just as a bar but as a stylish destination that entices both locals and visitors to explore downtown Edmonton once again.
Her commitment goes beyond aesthetics; it's about helping shape a more vibrant, walkable downtown experience.
'Downtown's changed a lot in the past eight years since the rink (Rogers Place) was put in downtown,' she reflected. 'I think the city is slowly but surely just trying to keep working on making it more of a hub and making it more of a walkable space... and more of an enjoyable place for people who are visiting and experiencing Edmonton for the first time.'
