Netflix signs first broadcaster deal with TF1, bringing French live TV and sports to subscribers in 2026

PARIS, June 18 — Netflix announced Wednesday a livestreaming and on-demand content agreement with French television group TF1, its first such deal with a major traditional broadcaster anywhere in the world.
The service will launch in summer 2026, Netflix's co-chief-executive Greg Peters told AFP, while declining to name any of the financial or other details of the tie-up with TF1.
Netflix subscribers in France will get access to TF1's five TV channels and content from the group's own TF1+ streaming platform –all 'without ever having to leave the Netflix environment' on their smart TV or other device, the US company said in a statement.
On offer will be sporting events, soap operas and reality shows such as the 'Survivor'-style 'Koh-Lanta'.
TF1 and Netflix have for years collaborated on productions like 2019's historical drama 'Le Bazar de la Charite' ('The Bonfire of Destiny').
But France's top private broadcaster – one of Europe's largest – has big ambitions for TF1+ to stand on its own two feet, making the more intimate tie-up with Netflix a surprise.
The TF1 streaming platform aims to become the most popular free offering in France and the wider French-speaking world.
'TF1+ is and will remain at the centre of our strategy,' TF1 chief executive Rodolphe Belmer told AFP ahead of the announcement.
Belmer insisted that the deal did not risk 'cannibalisation' of TF1+ and was 'truly complementary' in a media landscape of fragmenting audiences and growing on-demand viewing.
He added that the TF1 group had done 'lots of analysis' and expected a 'significantly net positive' business effect.
On Netflix's side, 'TF1 is very good with sports, with live areas that we don't operate in a large way right now', said Peters, who also praised the quality of the group's scripted programming.
Netflix said in 2022 that it had topped 10 million subscribing households in France and has reported growth since then without naming concrete figures. — AFP

"It is an honour to partner with QSI and to be a shareholder of Paris St Germain, a club and a city that is deeply close to my heart," Durant, who won gold at the Paris Olympics last year, said. "This club has big plans and I look forward to being part of the next phase of growth and exploring new investment opportunities with QSI." One of those opportunities is likely to come in the world of basketball, with PSG already involved in early-stage talks with the NBA regarding potential investment and venues for a new basketball league in Europe. Durant, who had already forged a link with PSG through the club's minority shareholder Arctos Partners, will partner on a wide range of commercial, investment and content production initiatives. The 36-year-old will also support the club in its strategy of diversification and growth on sporting and commercial fronts, including developing the club's strategy in the United States and other international markets. PSG said in their release that Durant would provide "expertise on PSG's multi-sport strategy, particularly regarding future projects in the field of basketball". Ohio and Michigan Workers Demand Fair Contract, End to Unfair Labor Practices WASHINGTON, June 20, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — Teamsters at Airgas are preparing to take action as the company continues to stall at the bargaining table and violate federal labor laws. Workers represented by Teamsters Local 283 in Ferndale, Mich., and Teamsters Local 507 in Cleveland have voted overwhelmingly to authorize a strike. If Airgas fails to present a fair contract, workers in Michigan and Ohio will join Teamsters Local 701 members in New Jersey, who were already forced onto the picket line last week. 'Airgas management is playing hardball and actively undermining our members' rights,' said Juan Campos, Director of the Teamsters Tankhaul Division and Teamsters International Vice President At-Large. 'The company is dragging out negotiations on purpose. They think they can wear our members down if they keep stalling. But Teamsters are more fired up than ever and ready for this fight.' Airgas, a subsidiary of French multinational Air Liquide, is the largest U.S. distributor of industrial, medical, and specialty gases. The company pulled in nearly $30 billion last year — but despite record profits and revenue, it continues to break the law and refuses to offer contracts that meet industry standards. 'Our members are done being strung along by this company,' said Dan Chavez, Secretary-Treasurer of Local 507. 'A strike isn't our first choice, but if Airgas won't bargain in good faith or stop violating our rights, we're prepared to take action. This is a fight Airgas will regret starting.' The Teamsters represent hundreds of Airgas workers across the country. If the company fails to present a fair contract and refuses to rectify its unfair labor practices, a multi-local strike could see picket lines extend nationwide. 'If a strike happens, the blame lies squarely with Airgas management.'
