1 in 3 Goa taxis now local app-based as state bars outside aggregators

Nearly one out of three taxis operating in Goa are enrolled on the local app-based platforms in the coastal state, with most of them catering to tourists, official data shows.
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant's recent announcement that his government will not allow cab aggregators from outside Goa has raised hopes for the local app-based mobility platforms, which have been in the market for some time now.
As per government figures, out of the total 12,000 tourist taxis operating in the state, 5,000 are on board the app-based platforms, mostly with two companies -- Goa Miles and Goa Taxi App.
The Goa Miles alone has a fleet of 4,000-odd taxis on board.
Allaying the apprehensions raised by local tourist taxi drivers over the Goa Transport Aggregators Guidelines 2025, CM Sawant on Friday said cab aggregators from outside will not be allowed in the state.
The draft guidelines were issued on May 20. The last date to give suggestions and raise objections is June 30.
Goa Miles Chief Executive Officer Utkarsh Dabhade told PTI that their service, which is affiliated to the Goa Tourism Development Corporation, was introduced seven years ago.
"Since the introduction of the app-based service, we have been receiving good response from tourists and locals alike," he said.
On an average, the Goa Miles fleet transports 15,000 passengers daily, of whom 85 per cent are tourists and 15 per cent local travellers, Dabhade said.
He said their services are available across the state, majorly at both the airports - Manohar International Airport at Mopa (in North Goa) and the international airport at Dabolim (South Goa).
The service has been completely a Goan brand with 100 per cent of the staff, including taxi owners, from the state, he said.
The state-run Goa Taxi App has been active for the last two years with more than 1,000 taxis on board the platform.
The service, having been introduced by the state government, is completely tourist-friendly with regards to rates and other facilities, a senior Goa Taxi App official said.
It would be beneficial for all the tourist taxi owners to get onboard the app-based service to get better business and also other facilities, he added.

Sawant-headed GoM meets to analyse state GST trends

Panaji: The reconstituted group of ministers (GoM) formed to analyse the goods and services tax (GST) revenue is set to meet for the first time on Thursday. The GoM, headed by chief minister Pramod Sawant , will examine state-wise revenue trends and suggest sector-specific policy tweaks, said an official. This includes mapping revenue patterns across sectors and regions to identify anomalies or areas of concern, which may impact individual state revenues and the overall federal tax structure. In addition to regional revenue trends, the GoM will examine the influence of macroeconomic policy changes on GST collections. This includes an assessment of geographical and sector-specific factors, with special attention to the fiscal challenges faced by agrarian and smaller states. The mandate also covers an analysis of recent amendments made to the GST Act, rules, and notifications to understand their implications on revenue performance. The GoM will meet at the new Maharashtra sadan in New Delhi. The reconstituted GoM on 'analysis of revenue from GST' includes nine ministers from the states of Bihar (Samrat Chaudhary), Chhattisgarh (Om Prakash Choudhary), Gujarat (Kanubhai Desai), Andhra Pradesh (P Keshav), Maharashtra (Ajit Pawar), Punjab (Harpal Singh Cheema), Tamil Nadu (Thangam Thennarasu), and Telangana (M B Vikramarka). by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Brass Krishna Idols For Prosperity & Protection In Life Luxeartisanship Shop Now Undo 'The Centre and state should get their dues. Each state will give their views and will raise their doubts. After the first meeting, the GoM will call for data from all the states, Union territories, and technology partners to review details of revenue from inter-state transactions,' said an official from the state GST office. A committee of officers will be constituted to analyse the data and report to the GoM. As per the expanded terms of reference, the GoM can analyse the state-wise revenue collection trends and check for leakages, fair distribution of collected revenues, and the flow of GST. Based on the findings, the GoM is expected to submit concrete policy recommendations aimed at augmenting revenue. This includes suggesting course correction measures for states that are experiencing significant shortfalls in GST collections. 'We will be looking at railway cargo systems, customs bonded warehouses. The entire process is likely to take at least six months,' said an official. Local industry bodies such as the Goa Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India, tax consultants, and other stakeholders will also be consulted in Goa. To strengthen enforcement, the GoM will review various anti-evasion and compliance tools developed independently by multiple agencies, including the NIC, GSTN, directorate general of analytics and risk management (DGARM), and state govts. The group will explore structural reforms and policy interventions necessary to stabilise and enhance the fiscal health of states where tax revenues are declining.

In a 1st, European company to source aircraft parts from Goa firm

Panaji: In the first collaboration between a European aerospace supplier and a Goan company for commercial planes, Austrian aerospace firm FACC AG has signed a seven-year agreement with Goa-based Kineco Aerospace & Defence to source structural parts for passenger aircraft. The agreement was announced on the second day of the 2025 Paris Air Show, on Tuesday. The multi-million deal sets in motion a 10-month phase of technical and operational coordination between FACC and Kineco. If executed, this partnership will integrate Kineco into FACC's global supplier network. FACC's annual revenues hit 884.5 million in 2024, and it counts Airbus, Boeing, Bombardier, and Embraer among its customers. 'Kineco Group has been making strategic, forward-looking investments in state-of-the-art capabilities, global-scale capacity, and world-class manufacturing and governance practices,' said the founder and chairman of the Kineco Group, Shekhar Sardessai. 'We are aligning with the evolving needs of Tier-1 companies and global commercial aircraft original equipment manufacturers.' While India's contribution to global commercial aviation is just around 2%, the country is actively working to increase its share in aerospace manufacturing. 'I take immense pride in this milestone — not just for Kineco, but for India's larger ambition to become a globally competitive aerospace manufacturing hub,' Sardessai said. 'It stands as a strong validation of India's rising stature in the global aerospace value chain.' FACC, which counts among the world's leading suppliers of lightweight aerospace systems and components, used to source these parts from China and Paris. The company indicated that its collaboration with Kineco is driven by a deliberate pivot to 'globally competitive partners' who meet stringent benchmarks in quality, cost, delivery, and innovation. Since the Covid-19 pandemic, there have been growing industry concerns over supply chain vulnerabilities and over-reliance on China. Kineco Aerospace & Defence, a division of Kineco Limited, is part of Goa's modest but steadily growing aerospace and composites manufacturing ecosystem. The firm worked on domestic defence and space programmes, including military contracts from BAE Systems and Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), as well as the Indian Space Research Organisation's satellite programme.
