Baghdad rocked by explosions: Iranian missiles traverse Iraqi skies
Shafaq News/ The loud explosions that rattled Baghdad early Saturday were caused by Iranian missiles crossing Iraqi airspace, a security source confirmed. The source told Shafaq News that one missile's fuel tank crashed between Abu Ghraib and Al-Radwaniyah, west of the capital, with no casualties recorded. The incident unfolded as Iran and Israel entered their second week of direct strikes, with both sides exchanging missile and drone attacks across multiple fronts. Meanwhile, Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani renewed his rejection of Israel 's use of Iraqi airspace in strikes against Iran. In a meeting with UK Ambassador Irfan Siddiq, al-Sudani condemned the overflights as a 'violation of sovereignty' and a threat to both regional and global security. He called on the UN Security Council's permanent members to intervene—demanding a halt to Israeli strikes on Iran and Gaza, and pressing for immediate humanitarian access to the besieged Palestinian enclave.

Israel intensifies Iran strikes: 17 nuclear scientists killed
Shafaq News/ Israel has escalated its air campaign against Iran, targeting nuclear infrastructure and eliminating 17 nuclear scientists, according to Israeli and Iranian media reports on Saturday. Israel's Channel 12 reported that the scientists were killed in strikes launched since June 13. One of the attacks targeted an apartment in Qom, where Iranian physicist Ithar Tabatabai and his wife were reportedly killed. Israeli military spokesperson Efi Defrin stated that recent strikes had 'deepened' the targeting of nuclear sites in Isfahan, including facilities used to produce centrifuges and missile launchers. Israeli operations come amid heightened regional tensions following Israel's unprecedented strike on Iranian soil earlier this month, prompting retaliatory drone and missile barrages from Tehran.

Iran detains 22 over alleged Mossad links
Shafaq News/ Iranian security forces detained 22 individuals in Qom on charges of espionage for Israel's Mossad, Iranian state media reported on Saturday. Local outlets said the suspects were involved in intelligence operations on behalf of the Israeli agency. Notably, authorities earlier detained 54 alleged 'pro-Israel elements' in Khuzestan, 30 others in Hamadan, and a man in Tehran accused of transmitting coordinates of Iranian air defense sites to a foreign agency via WhatsApp. The arrests coincide with the ninth consecutive day of open conflict between Iran and Israel. Tehran has long accused Mossad of orchestrating assassinations, sabotage attacks, and cyber operations inside Iran.
