Thalapathy Vijay turned a year older on Sunday (June 22). On the occasion of his 51st birthday, KVN Productions released The First Roar, a sneak peek of Jana Nayagan.

Directed by H Vinoth, the film is set to be Vijay's final acting project before he transitions into full-time politics, with his party contesting the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.
The teaser opens with the words: "A true leader rises not for the power, but for the people."
It then shows Vijay in a police uniform and dark sunglasses, holding a sword as he walks toward a group of men in a field, parts of which are ablaze.
His fist is bleeding, and he adjusts his moustache using the sword. The glimpse ends with the message: "Let's rise together."
Background
Jana Nayagan features music by Anirudh Ravichander and includes a cast of Pooja Hegde, Bobby Deol, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Prakash Raj, and Priyamani, among others. It marks Bobby Deol's second Tamil film following his debut in Kanguva, where he played the chief antagonist opposite Suriya.
Pooja Hegde reunites with Vijay after they previously starred together in Nelson Dilipkumar's Beast (2022). Speaking to PTI about Vijay's political journey, she said, "As a person who loves to watch him on screen, I'm very sad. But I also support his journey. I'm rooting for him. So, more power to him."
In February 2024, Vijay announced the formation of his political party, Tamizhaga Vetri Kazhagam, with plans to contest the 2026 elections. In his statement, he raised concerns about "administrative deterioration," corruption, and "divisive politics" in the state.
Jana Nayagan is scheduled to release in theatres on January 9, 2026, ahead of Makar Sankranti and Pongal. The film is produced by KVN Productions. On Republic Day 2025, Vijay revealed his look from the film through a poster that showed him taking a selfie with a large crowd in the background.
Vijay was last seen in The Greatest Of All Time, directed by Venkat Prabhu. The sci-fi action film became one of the highest-grossing releases of 2024. It was produced by AGS Entertainment and centred around a spy's mission that resurfaces years later, posing a threat to Vijay's character and his family.

Several senior leaders of jailed former Prime Minister Imran Khan's party have been granted relief by courts in protest-related cases, a media report said on Sunday (June 22, 2025). ATC-I Judge Manzer Ali Gill announced the verdict in the case related to the Shadman Police Station attack case during the May 9 riots that erupted after the arrest of PTI founder Khan. The judge deferred till June 26 a decision on another bail petition of the PTI leader in a case relating to the burning of police vehicles near Lahore Corps. Mr. Qureshi's counsel had argued that the PTI leader was not even present in Lahore on May 9 — the day of the alleged attack — and was in Karachi with his wife for her medical treatment. The counsel stated that the allegation of conspiracy against Mr. Qureshi regarding the May 9 attacks was not proven and the petitioner should be granted bail, as many co-suspects in the same case had already been allowed bail. Earlier, former Punjab governor Omar Sarfraz Cheema also filed a bail petition in the same Shadman Police Station attack case. Mr. Khan is booked in several cases in Lahore in connection with the May 9, 2023, violence, including for allegedly inciting his supporters to attack government and military buildings, which erupted after his arrest by paramilitary Rangers from the Islamabad High Court premises. The 72-year-old cricketer-turned-politician has been behind bars since August 2023 after he was booked in multiple cases.

Bihar Assembly Elections: ECI mulls intensive house-to-house verification, here's why

Ahead of the Bihar Assembly Polls, the Election Commission of India (ECI) is mulling an intensive house-to-house verification during the upcoming electoral roll revision, reported PTI quoting ECI sources. According to the report, the ECI is planning the verification to make the Electoral Rolls completely robust and free of any kind of errors. This is not the first time when ECI has done rigorous revision of the electoral rolls. The last such exercise was undertaken in the year 2004, ECI sources said. Earlier, various civil society organisations, political parties and agencies have raised their concerns regarding the inclusion or deletion of names of the electors in the Electoral Rolls. The Election Commission of India has repeatedly emphasised that it is committed to ensuring that only genuine and eligible citizens are enrolled in the electoral rolls. Regular exercise of revision of the Electoral Rolls is undertaken annually throughout the country by the ECI and also before the holding of Elections/Bye-polls by the ECI. Constitutional and legal frameworks are also quite clear and robust in this regard. The provisions regarding eligibility to be registered as a voter and disqualifications for registration in an electoral roll are clearly laid down in Article 326 of the Constitution of India and Section 16 of the Representation of the People Act, 1950 respectively. The need for constant updation of the electoral rolls arises due to various reasons, such as migration/shifting of electors. "The country continuously witnesses inter-state, intra-state, inter-district and intra-district migration due to reasons such as marriage, job opportunities, education, family requirements etc. For instance, during the year 2024 as per forms received by the ECI, 46.26 lakh persons shifted their residence, 2.32 crore applied for corrections and 33.16 lakh requested for replacement. Thus, in a single year, nearly 3.15 crore changes were required to be made across the country," ECI sources said. The number of deletions of dead voters is much lower compared to the registered deaths since the families do not approach the ECI for deletion of names of their kin. Also, another reason for constant updating is the addition of the names of young electors attaining the age of 18 years. It also includes corrections in the elector details such as names, photographs or address. Among other reasons for constant updation are rationalisation of polling stations as ECI wants to ensure no elector has to travel for more than 2 kilometers to cast their vote, and subsequent deletion names of foreign illegal immigrants in the electoral rolls.

160 nationals evacuated in first batch under Operation Sindhu: Indian mission in Israel

With Israeli airspace closed and commercial flights suspended, the Indian missions in Israel and Jordan, in a joint effort, evacuated 160 Indian nationals in the first batch under Operation Sindhu on Sunday, according to an embassy source. The missions organised the first batch of evacuation from Israel as the Indian nationals living in Israel constantly grappled with the sounds of sirens, frequently taking cover in bunkers and fortified safe rooms from incoming missiles and drones from Iran. Arvind Shukla, a researcher from Hebrew University who was evacuated on Sunday morning, praised "the smooth and carefully planned process" by the embassy under "difficult circumstances", and told PTI: "I have completed the visa process and have already moved to the Jordanian side. The embassy was extremely helpful in facilitating our journey, and we were looked after well." The Israeli and Jordanian governments extended crucial support in ensuring the safe and orderly transit of Indian nationals across the border, the mission in Tel Aviv said. The Embassy of India in Jordan played a key role in receiving the evacuees at the border to further facilitate their onward journey to Amman Airport, it said. Special flights from Amman to New Delhi have been arranged by the Ministry of External Affairs to safely fly Indian nationals home. Some flights are also planned to leave from Egypt in the coming days, as there are many Indians living in the south of Israel. "The Government of India continues to accord the highest priority to the safety and security of Indian nationals abroad. The government will continue to monitor the situation closely. The embassy remains continuously in touch with the community to extend all feasible assistance," the official said. The Indian mission in Israel once again reached out to its citizens on Sunday to register for ongoing updates and assistance, and provided a 24/7 helpline number. There are over 40,000 Indian nationals in Israel working as caregivers, construction workers, students, professionals and others.
