Naismith, 38, was axed by Hearts - who McInnes will take charge of - in September and is thought he is keen on a return to the dugout.
The ex-Scotland international refused to rule himself out of the running for the Killie job.
But after being out of football for the first time in his life he insists he will take time to weigh up what he does next.
Asked about the links to the vacant hotseat on the latest episode of The Warm Up, William Hill SPFL's weekly preview show, Naismith said: 'I'll go serious for you and give you a good answer. I'm enjoying the time out.
'It takes over your life, management. It's on your mind all the time.
'I loved it but I've loved my time out. I'm at the point where everything needs to be perfect for me.
'So it has to be the right club, you believe in what it is and that you're going to make a difference. That's where I sit.'
SunSport told on Monday how Naismith would be a leading contender if McInnes left.
McInnes initially claimed he would be in the Killie dugout for the final two games of their season, despite the clubs agreeing he could move to the Jambos.
But he dramatically left his post this morning following Wednesday's 3-0 loss to Motherwell.

That has hastened Killie's chase for Naismith, who became a club hero after coming through the ranks then netting 32 goals in 105 appearances before being sold to Rangers in 2007 for a club record fee £1.9million.
He was a part of Steve Clarke's backroom team then took charge at Tynecastle on an interim basis in April 2023.
After landing the permanent post he guided them into third spot in his first full season in charge but was then axed just six games into this season with the club sitting at the foot of the table.
It's thought that experience hasn't put Naismith off the role. He has used his time out to further his education by going on club visits and speaking with managers he has worked with in the past, as well analysing things in various media roles.

McGill, 31, of East Kilbride, changed tack to get involved in drugs deals and mayhem more than a decade after he ran for Renfrewshire athletics club Kilbarchan. He set a highly impressive personal best time for 100m of just over 11 seconds while being trained by the former Team GB ace Mr Whittle. The MSP for South Scotland since 2016 said of McGill: 'I remember him as a decent athlete in his mid-teens with potential. 'But he did not stay in the training group for long.' We can reveal an image of a fresh-faced McGill wearing a Scotland vest at a meet in Antrim, Northern Ireland. A source said: 'He came second in the 100m at the Celtic games on August 13, 2011. 'He only represented Kilbarchan AC for one year then disappeared. It was very odd because at the time he seemed like he was going to be a really successful athlete. 'But people who knew him remember he did seem a lot more interested in Rangers than track and field.' McGill, exposed by us as the gang war Mr Big, went on to lead the Union Bears Rangers ultras and was pictured with ex-Ibrox boss Steven Gerrard. The INSIDE story of Scotland's biggest gangster - Jamie 'The Iceman' Stevenson He is said to be behind a mob called Tamo Junto who have been waging war against caged Edinburgh kingpin Mark Richardson, 38, and the notorious Daniel crime family. Insiders say dealers paid McGill in fake cash for a £500,000 cocaine deal after seeing him as 'a nobody'. Tamo Junto has claimed responsibility for firebombings and machete attacks in Glasgow and Edinburgh. Cops have made 48 arrests so far. Mr Whittle won 4x400m relay gold at two European Championships and competed at the Seoul Olympics in 1988.

Conference League side look to ‘tempt' ex-Kilmarnock star Danny Armstrong as he attracts interest at home and abroad

SunSport can reveal the Polish team want to tempt the winger in time for the start of their season. 3 Former Kilmarnock man Daniel Armstrong has attracted interest at home and abroad Credit: Kenny Ramsay 3 He could play in the Conference League with Polish team Jagiellonia Bialystok Credit: Getty Winger Armstrong, 27, is a free agent after quitting Kilmarnock following four years there. His availability has attracted interest from home and abroad and Jagiellonia are exploring ways they can attract him. They are bossed by Adrian Siemieniec, who became the youngest ever boss in Poland's top flight when he took charge at the age of 31 two years ago. He already had a decade's experience of coaching after retiring from playing early because he felt he wouldn't be good enough to make the grade as a professional. Siemieniec steered Jagiellonia to a third-placed finish in the Ekstraklasa and they take on Serbs Novi Pazar in the Europa Conference League second qualifying round first leg on July 24. They open up their league campaign with a visit from Bruk-Bet Termalica on July 18. Back before the most recent winter window then-Killie manager Derek McInnes stood firm on the winger's price tag, knocking back bids from European teams and batting off interest from his own new team Hearts. With his contract into the last six months teams could have tried to lure him with a pre-contract agreement but nothing came to fruition. He's recently revealed his decision to stick around for the final year was largely to do with his new-born daughter. Now that he's departing he also added: 'It's been the best ten months of my life, having Darby here, and I wouldn't change it. 'I've had options from all over the world but it's about it being the right one. Myself and my partner are all on the same page. Armstrong notched 26 goals and 35 assists in his time at Rugby Park, picking up a Championship title and playing in Europe along the way. He wouldn't be the first to make a direct move between the SPFL and the Polish outfit. The red and yellow team currently have former Livingston goalkeeper Max Stryjek on their books. Other recent Scottish links to Jagiellonia include Patryk Klimala, who was brought to Celtic from them, and Ziggy Gordon who moved there after playing for Partick Thistle and Hamilton Accies. Cillian Sheridan, formerly of Killie, Celtic and a host of other Scottish clubs also plied his trade there between 2017 and 2019. And transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has revealed on Saturday the length of deal that is expected to take him to Celtic Park. He's reporting the 23-year-old has penned a four-year contract at the club, with the option of extending his stay in Glasgow to 2030. It means the Scottish champions have staved off competition from the likes of Anderlecht and Copenhagen to land the attacker's signature. Nygren netted 16 times in 32 games for the Danish outfit Nordsjaelland last season and made his debut for Sweden. He has two goals from four caps for his country, scoring in the 2-0 win over Hungary and 5-1 victory over Northern Ireland in June. He would become Brendan Rodgers' third summer signing after finalising deals to bring Kieran Tierney and Ross Doohan back to the club. Fulham attacker Callum Osmand is also on the verge of joining the Hoops. Meanwhile, Celtic are looking to raid the J-League for another striker. SunSport has exclusively revealed they are watching Kawasaki Frontale hitman Shin Yamada. Eric Black on losing love for football & the ex-Celtic star who's the best he's ever seen Yamada, 25, scored 19 league goals in the 2024 season and also helped the Japanese side to the Asian Champions League final last month. Celtic boss Rodgers is keen to add another striker to support Daizen Maeda and Adam Idah ahead of the new season.
