CBFC demands name change for JSK- Janaki Vs State of Kerala, starring Union Minister Suresh Gopi
The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has demanded the makers of the film JSK - Janaki Vs State of Kerala, starring Union Minister Suresh Gopi, to change the title of the film. Filmmaker Pravin Narayanan told The Hindu on Sunday that the board's stand had effectively stalled the release of the film scheduled for June 27. When asked about the issue, regional officials of the CBFC were evasive and said that the 'certification process is ongoing.' According to Mr. Narayanan, the Thiruvananthapuram regional office of the CBFC had cleared the censoring of the film on June 18 with a U/A certificate. However, when the regional office forwarded the same to the CBFC headquarters in Mumbai, the higher officials there demanded a change in the title as well as the name of the titular character of Janaki, apparently because the name also refers to the Hindu goddess Sita. 'We were supposed to load the content with the censor certificate attached on June 20 for distribution to release centres across the world. But on that evening, the CBFC officials told the producer that the film won't be certified unless the film and character names are changed. We told them to give us a written document denoting this, so that we can proceed to the review committee. The officials have told us that they will provide this on Monday. We have already spent a lot on publicity events and marketing. The online ticketing process was also about to begin,' said Mr. Narayanan. Minister yet to protest He said that the changes, if forced, would cause immense damage to the film as the mention of the name will have to be removed from several dialogues in the film. Mr. Gopi, the Union Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas, is yet to comment on the whole issue. He was part of the promotional events of the film over the past week. The film is set to be his first release after taking charge as a Minister. Incidentally, filmmaker M.B. Padmakumar had also recently spoken about the issues he faced from the CBFC over a character in his upcoming film Token Number being named Janaki. The board officials had demanded a change in the name of either Janaki or her lover Abraham. The film was certified a few days ago only after he gave into the board's demands and changed the name Janaki to Jayanthi. FEFKA to protest Film Employees Federation of Kerala (FEFKA) general secretary and filmmaker lashed out at CBFC and said that the federation will organise protests if the board persists with the demand. 'It would be convenient if the CBFC provides us with a list of names that can be used. I fear that soon they will also ask me not to mention my name in the credits, as it is also a Hindu god's name. We have told the filmmaker to move legally against this,' said Mr. Unnikrishnan. The Kerala Film Producers' Association has also criticised the increasing tendency of censors meddling in the content, which he said is against the CBFC's own guidelines.

Swiss Military Mortley Rumble can bring life to you workstation
Swiss Military is a trusted brand in most markets around the world. To capitalise on this, the brand is expanding its product portfolio to include everything from travel essentials to speakers. The Swiss Military Mortley Rumble is a new speaker that tries to offer everything a user might need at an affordable price range. The Swiss Military Mortley Rumble has a unique design with a phone holder that reminds one of the early streaming devices that came for the iPhone over a decade back. The design of the 24W Bluetooth speaker has a control unit in the middle flanked by speakers. On the back of this control unit is a power button, USB-A and USB-C ports, an SD card reader, and an Aux-in port. The USB-C port is used to charge the device too. On top of this block are the Play/Pause and Forward buttons. There is no volume control on the device and one is expected to do that directly from the phone. While the design is interesting, with woofers at the back that actually move, the build quality did not inspire much confidence in me. The buttons on top are a bit too clicky, and everything cries white-labeled Shenzen production lines. The audio playback however is much better than what the design will have you expect. The audio profile is balanced and the playback is sharp. Playing O Re Piya, which is a perfect Sunday morning song on the Mortley Rumble, I realised that this is more of a personal listening device than a speaker that will fill your room with Rahat Fateh Ali Khan's mystical vocals. The speaker clearly has limitations when it comes to its top volumes. But keep it on your desk and you will have an immersive experience with your favourite tracks. To the speaker's credit is the fact that there is no noise even at the top volumes. With Jonita Gandhi's Vaseegara mashup, I loved the bass on these speakers. The taps sounded so real and vibrated across the table. There is space for the different channels and vocals don't struggle to come out of the shadows of the instruments. If only there was more volume to amp up this experience. The speakers are good for taking calls too and it helps that there is a flap up front that can hold your smartphone in place. Again an indicator that this is better as a desktop speaker. On a full charge, I could get about eight hours of playback, which is decent. However, a lot of smaller speakers these days push over 30 hours of playtime. At Rs 8,990, the Swiss Military Mortley Rumble could have done a bit more in terms of volume and battery power. But overall this is not a bad package and can be a good addition to your workspace. Nandagopal Rajan writes on technology, gadgets and everything related. ‘Create in India Challenge' participants at WAVES to get jobs and career help
NEW DELHI: The Centre is working on a comprehensive roadmap to help the participants of the 'Create in India Challenge', a highlight of the World Audio Visual and Entertainment Summit (WAVES), secure employment and career opportunities. This initiative signals a strong push to nurture creative talent in sectors such as animation, comics, AI, extended reality, gaming, and music in India. The government will be holding discussions with leading industry associations and organisations, which hosted 32 challenges covering a wide range of disciplines including animation, filmmaking, gaming, music, and visual arts in the run up to the event. During the inaugural edition of WAVES in May, around 750 finalists were invited to exhibit their projects and skills at 'Creatosphere', a specially designed platform to highlight cutting-edge innovation and creativity in India's media and entertainment landscape. 'A roadmap is being worked out to ensure the winners of CIC get gainful employment or regular jobs. The government will help them to showcase or sell their content. It will be checked whether Intellectual property (IP) rights can be generated for their content. The efforts are also being made to see if the companies can offer them employment opportunities,' said sources. According to the industry representatives, the initiative will take WAVES to the next level as envisioned by PM Narendra Modi. Comparing the WAVES to global events, Modi termed it a great opportunity to showcase India's creative talent to the world. Some have also suggested nominating brand ambassadors for the Summit expected to be held in February and start a fellowship programme focused on expanding its reach and impact. Though the discussions are at nascent stage, one of the few possibilities to showcase creative talent of CIC winners is to arrange their participation in international events like roadshows. 'To build excitement, several smaller state-level related events can be organised. They can be permanent verticals of the WAVES. Suggestions are also being sought from associations and industry on how to boost their confidence,' said sources. The flagship initiative of WAVES, the CIC garnered significant traction nationwide and globally, with 32 challenges, including Truth Tell Hackathon, Comics Creator Championship, Esports Tournament, Trailer Making Competition and Anime Challenge for which the ministry of information and broadcasting (I&B) received nearly one lakh registration including over 1,100 international entries from 60 countries.
