1 dead, another hurt as bike rams tree in JSR
Jamshedpur: A teenager was fatally wounded while another was hospitalised with critical injuries after their motorcycle collided with a tree here on Saturday.
The deceased was identified as Vishwaroop Pratap (17) while Shivam Kumar (18), who was riding pillion, was admitted to Tata Main Hospital.
Police said Pratap was driving his bike in a breakneck speed when he lost control and hit a tree on Circuit House Road. The duo was headed to Sakchi from Sonari.
While Pratap was killed on the spot, Kumar was rescued and taken to TMH by locals and cops. Bistupur police station in-charge, Umesh Thakur, said that the condition of the injured is stable. "Both the deceased and the injured are residents of Sonari police station limits," he said.

DNA confirms AI crew member Nganthoi's identity
Guwahati: The identity of the cabin crew member on the ill-fated Ahmedabad-London Air India flight, Kongbrailatpam Nganthoi Sharma of Manipur, has finally been confirmed after a DNA match, her family members said on Saturday. Manipur lost two of its daughters — Nganthoi (20) and Lamnunthem Singson (26) — who were among the crew members aboard the Air India flight that crashed on June 12. Nganthoi's sister Gitanjali told TOI from Ahmedabad on Saturday that the authorities have confirmed her identity among the deceased in the Air India flight crash. "DNA of my sister has matched with our family. We have got the confirmation today after a long wait," said Gitanjali. One of Nganthoi's family members said they are expecting to bring her mortal remains to Imphal on Sunday. It was a patient wait of more than a week by the family members of Nganthoi, a Meitei girl, for the confirmation of her mortal remains through DNA match. Gitanjali and a few of her family members have been camping in Ahmedabad since June 13. "Air India is arranging our return to Imphal with Nganthoi's mortal remains. We are not sure in which flight we are coming. It may be through a connecting flight to Imphal," the family member said.

A 25-year-old man from Kalamboli who darted across the city airport after missing his flight was arrested on Thursday for entering the apron — the area where planes are parked, hoping to board the flight he had just missed. Security officials spotted the man, Piyush Soni, running towards the parking area where an Air India flight from Gujarat had landed. The man had arrived at the airport a little after 9.50 am — the deadline for boarding had crossed, said officials of Sahar police station. Soni was unaware that his Air India flight for Patna had already taken off. The aircraft that he was running towards was one that arrived from Bhuj. Soni initially claimed that the driver of a coach, that drops flyers near the aircraft, had "by mistake dropped him close to the runway". However, security officials later said it was a lie, the police said. In a complaint, an Air India staffer has stated that they noticed a man running towards a plane, risking flight movement and potentially causing a fatal incident had some aircraft been taking off. Soni was handed over to airport security (CISF) officials. "During inquiry, Soni revealed that he arrived at the airport late and the gate had closed. 247 DNA matches completed, 232 bodies handed over
A Tired of too many ads? go ad free now hmedabad: Civil Hospital authorities announced on Saturday the completion of matches for 247 persons deceased in the AI171 aircraft crash that took place on June 12 in the city. The figure is higher than the 241 persons who died onboard the aircraft, including 229 passengers and 12 crew members. The crash had only a lone survivor in Vishwash Kumar Ramesh who miraculoulsy escaped even as several lives were lost on the ground. The 247 deceased identified so far through the DNA matching process include 175 Indian nationals, 52 British nationals, 7 Portuguese nationals, and one Canadian national. It also includes 12 non-passengers. Dr Rakesh Joshi, medical superintendent of Civil Hospital, said that 232 mortal remains have been handed over to the relatives for last rites so far. "Of the 15 bodies whose DNA has been completed, three bodies have not been received by families as they await DNA match of other family members lost in the plane crash. Six bodies have been prepared for being handed over to their families for the onward journey while families of six victims are expected to arrive on Sunday to claim the mortal remains," he said. "Out of the total, 23 mortal remains have been flown out of the city, whereas the rest are transported to crematoriums or their native places by road." Sources said that based on the figures released earlier, out of 61 foreign nationals on the flight, 60 have been identified, whereas the identification of a British national is still awaited. With all 12 'non-passengers' identified — believed to be the 12 crew members. The process is taking longer due to the nature of the samples, which are highly charred, and extraction of DNA is difficult. However, the teams have managed to use the technology to the optimum and improve the detection rate significantly even in challenging cases," said a state official.
