Qatar participates in 'Reimagining Education' forum in Chile
SANTIAGO: In a bid to deepen international dialogue on the future of education, the State of Qatar participated in 'Reimagining Education: New Paths for Educational Innovation,' a high-level forum hosted by Fundacion Reimagina in Santiago, Chile.
The event, held as part of the Qatar-Chile 2025 Year of Culture, brought together educators, policymakers, and innovators to explore new models for educational reform and cross-sector collaboration.
The forum featured contributions from Aurelio Amaral, Director of Programs at the World Innovation Summit for Education (WISE), an initiative of Qatar Foundation, and Hazem Idriss, Deputy Director of Community Development at Qatar Museums. Their presence underscored Qatar's growing role in fostering education and cultural diplomacy as tools for building bridges across continents.
"Innovation in education requires a systems-thinking approach—one that values grassroots ideas and connects them with global frameworks,' said Amaral on the sidelines of the forum. "Events like this are essential for bringing diverse voices together to co-create inclusive, resilient learning ecosystems." Amaral also highlighted WISE's global role in advancing education through research, policy dialogue, and cross-sector partnerships. Since its founding in 2009 by, WISE has become a global platform for educational transformation.
For Idriss, the value of education extended beyond the classroom. He shared lessons from Qatar's international volunteer initiatives, which pair service-based learning with cultural exchange.
Idriss's participation in the forum coincided with a broader visit to Chile and Argentina, where he is conducting site assessments for Qatar Museums' international volunteer program, an initiative that became an integral part of annual Years of Culture programming during the Qatar-Indonesia 2023.
"Promoting collaboration between organisations, countries and sectors is a core value of Fundacion Reimagina. In order to fulfil our mission of ensuring education that responds to the challenges of 21st-century society, we require partnerships and exchanges that guarantee higher educational quality and the development of key skills, such as creativity, critical thinking and digital proficiency. This requires a profound and practical approach to innovation, which we aim to promote at this meeting with Years of Culture and WISE," said Ana María Raad, Founder of Reimagina and AprendoLAB.
A recent example of this commitment is AprendoLab, a project by Fundacion Reimagina that was named one of the six 2024–25 WISE Prize for Education Finalists. The finalists have been working over the past year to develop solutions for fundamental challenges in education systems, such as accelerating foundational literacies, improving the teaching and learning of Arabic, and addressing emerging challenges of artificial intelligence in education.
Organizers hope that by linking local innovation in Chile with international examples, the forum can spur new partnerships and create momentum for scaling high-impact educational strategies, a powerful legacy of the Qatar-Chile 2025 Year of Culture.

Agencies Elon Musk's X Corp. has filed a lawsuit challenging a New York state law that requires social media companies to report how they moderate hate speech and disinformation. The complaint, filed in a federal court in Manhattan, seeks to halt the law, which X argues violates the First Amendment by forcing platforms to disclose sensitive information about their content moderation practices. 'Today, @X filed a First Amendment lawsuit against a New York law, NY S895B,' X's Global Government Affairs team posted Tuesday, adding that it had successfully challenged a similar law in California.'X is the only platform fighting for its users by challenging the law, and we are confident we will prevail in this case as well,' the company said. The New York law requires social media companies with over $100 million in annual revenue to submit semiannual reports detailing how they define and moderate hate speech, racism, extremism, disinformation and harassment. Companies face fines of $15,000 per day for violations, which can be sought by the attorney general's office. X says the law is 'an impermissible attempt by the State to inject itself into the content-moderation editorial process' and seeks to pressure platforms into restricting constitutionally protected speech. Reporters Without Borders said in a statement that asking X 'account for their actions against misinformation is by no means an infringement of freedom of expression, but the bare minimum to clean up the digital space.' 'Freedom of expression does not come without responsibilities,' it added. The lawsuit comes after X successfully challenged a nearly identical California law last year, according to the filing. New York's law is 'a carbon copy' of the California provisions that were struck down, the filing adds.

Russia, Indonesia deepen ties as Putin and Prabowo meet in St Petersburg
Russian President Vladimir Putin met his Indonesian counterpart Prabowo Subianto as Moscow bids to strengthen ties in the Global South amid Western efforts to isolate the country following its war on Ukraine. On Thursday, Putin and Prabowo met in the Russian city of St Petersburg and signed a declaration on strategic partnership. Danatara, Indonesia's sovereign wealth fund, and the Russian Direct Investment Fund, whose CEOs were also in Saint Petersburg, signed an agreement to create an investment fund worth 2 billion euros ($2.29bn). In a statement after the talks, Prabowo said that the relationship between the two countries was 'getting stronger again'. 'My meeting with President Putin today was intense, warm and productive. In all fields of economics, technical cooperation, trade, investment, agriculture – they all have experienced significant improvements,' he said. Moreover, during the meeting at the Konstantin Palace, Putin acknowledged Indonesia's entry into the BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa) grouping of emerging economies as a full member. 'Our relations with Indonesia are developing steadily. Trade turnover is growing. We have good prospects in a number of promising and very interesting areas of cooperation,' Putin said, according to Russian state news outlet TASS. 'This includes agriculture, space, and energy, as well as military-technical cooperation. Our interaction is very great, and it is growing,' he added. As Southeast Asia's largest economy relies primarily on coal as a source of power, despite its massive potential for renewable energy sources such as hydro, solar, and geothermal, Indonesia is seeking to boost power generation while capping its carbon emissions, considering nuclear power as a solution. Qatar-Greece joint panel holds first session in Doha
Tribune News Network Doha Minister of State for Foreign Trade Affairs at the Ministry of Commerce and Industry HE Dr Ahmad bin Mohammed Al Sayed and Tasos Chatzivasileiou, deputy minister of Foreign Affairs of the Hellenic Republic, co-chaired the first session of the Qatar-Greece Joint Committee for Economic and Technical Cooperation, held in Doha on 16 June 2025. The committee's proceedings were attended by representatives from a number of governmental entities, including the Ministry of Transport, Ministry of Public Health, Ministry of Municipality, Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, Ministry of Labour, and Ministry of Communications and Information Technology. Also participating were the Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa), the Investment Promotion Agency (Invest Qatar), Qatar Investment Authority, Qatar Central Bank, the Civil Aviation Authority, Qatar Airways Group, the Free Zones Authority, and Qatar Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The meetings of the committee reviewed areas of cooperation in various sectors of mutual interest and explored ways to strengthen collaboration between both countries. In his opening remarks, Al Sayed highlighted the strength of the relations between the State of Qatar and the Hellenic Republic, noting that bilateral relations have grown remarkably in recent years. The minister of state emphasised the importance of the joint committee as a pivotal platform for exploring future cooperation opportunities in priority sectors, in line with national aspirations for sustainable development and economic prosperity. The minister invited Greek investors and companies to explore the promising opportunities in the Qatari market, affirming Qatar's commitment to fostering pathways for collaboration to turn shared visions into actionable ventures. At the conclusion of the committee's work, both sides expressed a shared desire to deepen bilateral ties, noting that the session's outcomes would help unlock new avenues for partnership between the State of Qatar and the Hellenic Republic.
