‘Upin & Ipin Universe': Iconic animated twins enter gaming world with open-world adventure (VIDEO)
KUALA LUMPUR, June 10 — Malaysia's beloved animated twins, Upin & Ipin, are set to star in their own open-world video game, with the first trailer for Upin & Ipin Universe recently revealed.
The trailer, launched during the Summer Games Fest 2025, confirmed that the game will take place in the iconic fictional village of Kampung Durian Runtuh, the home of Upin & Ipin.
Upin & Ipin Universe is a collaborative effort between Les' Copaque (the creators of Upin & Ipin), Streamline Studios, and Streamline Media Group.
Streamline Studios, a renowned game developer, has contributed to several AAA titles, including Street Fighter V (2016) and Stellar Blade (2024), which gained significant attention upon its release in April last year. The studio has also developed original games such as Bake 'n Switch, Axon Runners, and Hoopworld.
What to expect from Upin & Ipin Universe
According to its official website, Upin & Ipin Universe is a vibrant open-world adventure that invites players to explore the liveliness of Kampung Durian Runtuh.
From bustling markets to serene rice fields, players will embark on journeys uncovering local legends and helping familiar faces from Kampung Durian Runtuh's community, all while immersing themselves in Malaysia's rich cultural heritage.
The game also features a variety of mini-games, including:
• Fishing: A detailed fishing system where players choose bait, cast lines, and reel in various types of fish.
• Farming: Plant, grow, and harvest crops with unique gameplay twists.
• Critter Catching: Capture critters such as ladybugs and butterflies in a fun, competitive challenge.
• Racing: Race, drift, and compete to see who has the best skills on the track.
• Cooking: Prepare dishes using a rhythm-based mini-game involving chopping, boiling, and frying.
• Spinning Top: Compete in the traditional Malaysian game gasing, where players battle to spin their tops the longest in an arena.
Although a release date has yet to be announced, Upin & Ipin Universe is set to launch on consoles, PC, and Nintendo Switch.
The legacy of Upin & Ipin
Upin & Ipin is a celebrated Malaysian animated children's show that debuted in 2007 and has since been broadcast in over 100 countries, gaining a significant fanbase in Indonesia.
The 2019 feature film Upin & Ipin: Keris Siamang Tunggal made waves upon release, earning the Best Film Story award at the 2019 International Animation Film Festival (Animaze) in Montreal, Canada. The film was also among 23 titles shortlisted for nomination at the 2019 Oscars in the Animated Feature Film category.

‘The company is one thing, I'm another,' says Fazura amid RM4.65m lawsuit
KUALA LUMPUR, June 21 — Nearly two months have passed since allegations emerged that the company owned by popular actress and entrepreneur Nur Fazura Sharifuddin failed to settle a RM4.65 million debt owed to a headscarf manufacturing factory. Despite being repeatedly pressed by the claimant as well as by netizens on social media to address the issue, the celebrity has remained silent, going about her daily life, including promoting her headscarves on social media. Speaking to reporters at a press conference after launching the music video of her latest single Luar Biasa here last night, Fazura, 41, said the lawsuit against her company is a confidential matter and has been handed over to her lawyers for further action. Fazura, who is also a singer and television host, said she preferred not to comment further as it involves two separate entities. 'Honestly, there's nothing I can explain because we have to understand that I, Fazura, and the company are two different entities. I can't comment on company matters as that is beyond my scope as an individual. The company is the company, and Fazura is me personally, that's the distinction. 'So really, I can't say much about the company or whatever is going on. I've left all my company-related matters to my lawyers to take action,' she said. Fazura made these remarks when asked by reporters to comment on the RM4.65 million lawsuit filed by a headscarf supplier against her company Pink Fate Sdn Bhd. Admitting that she is affected by the controversy, the Pisau Cukur star said such issues are among the challenges any entrepreneur must face. 'What haven't I gone through in the past eight months? Of course, I've been affected. I'm not someone without feelings but as an entrepreneur, I understand this is normal. I don't think it's necessary to explain, because outsiders may not understand and could twist the facts,' she said. 'I know the business I'm running isn't a small one and I'm confident all entrepreneurs out there will understand the challenges that come with being in the business world,' she added. KUALA LUMPUR, June 21 — For nearly three decades, Malaysian rock band Spider, whose music incorporates elements of ska (a music genre that originated in Jamaica), continues to attract new fans despite a period when its popularity briefly waned. Appreciating their fans who have supported them for almost 30 years, this legendary band is set to rock the stage through their 'Spider Unplugged' concert at Mega Star Arena here on Oct 25. Spider vocalist Rustam Mustafah, better known as Tam, said the unplugged concert, in acoustic format, is a long-held dream and will feature a more intimate, dynamic and energetic musical arrangement. 'It will be quite challenging for us because unplugged performances are usually done as showcases but this time we're doing it as a full-scale concert... some songs may be rearranged in joget or inang style or performed slowly with drum accompaniment. 'We'll also incorporate strings, brass and percussion by guest musicians to diversify the performance... we're elevating it to a proper full concert experience for the audience,' he said at a press conference after the concert's launch recently. Popular for hits such as 'Phobia', 'Aladin', 'Relaku Pujuk', 'Kasih Latifah', 'Cinta Dewa Dewi' and 'Nazraku', Spider comprises Tam and Aie (drums), and two new members Iss (bass) and Pown (guitar), replacing Tony and Napie, who passed away in 2021 and 2024 respectively. Acknowledging that the loss of the two original members had a deep impact on the band's dynamic, Tam expressed confidence in the new members' ability to carry on the legacy. 'I believe in our two new players, Iss and Pown... they bring their own unique touch. They might know our songs but have never seen Spider perform live.
